The amendment would recognize “sex at birth,” making it impossible to change ones gender throughout the course of their life.

On the proposed draft law, Human Rights Watch wrote:

The proposed amendment to the Registry Act would include a clarification regarding the word “nem,” which in Hungarian can mean both “sex” and “gender,” to specifically refer to the sex at birth (“szuletesi nem”) as “biological sex based on primary sex characteristics and chromosomes.” According to the draft bill, the birth sex, once recorded, cannot be amended.

It's the correct vote, but this government is otherwise authoritarian, neo-fascist, against minorities, pretty awful.

Apparently the TRA's are already planning a legal challenge in the European Court of Human Rights on the basis that the new law violates European human rights case law...

Do we just stay single forever

Welcome to Mumsnet Ursula2001! First day posting, but I don’t think you’ll find much how-to-pick-up-a-guy-in-toilets advice here, probably best to look elsewhere.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 25/05/2020 09:22

but what's the solution?

Sorry to use this part of your quote ursula

But ive seen this comment a lot but especially in regards to the toilet issue

Getting together with a male partner or checking that a man isn’t in the bogs (two different senarios...or rather i HOPE they are different) has been done for decades with no major issues, the solution would be To carry on with it as we have done

OldCrone · 25/05/2020 09:28

but what's the solution?

The solution, Ursula, is to keep men out of women only spaces. Regardless of their presentation or "identity".

And as others have said, if you're looking for advice about picking up men in the toilets, you've come to the wrong place.

mummmy2017 · 25/05/2020 09:28

If a person has a operation to graft a horse's tail onto their arse does that person become a horse?
Can you change that person's birth certificate to say they are a horse.
If they had an accident and died with no identification a simple DNA test would reveal all.
It's case of the Emperor's new cloths.
Perhaps you know the story, everyone is forced to pretend until a simple child not in on the pretence states the truth.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 25/05/2020 09:36

I don't think the person who asserted it believes it but has been an effective derail.

It would be less effective if people stopped taking the bait.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 25/05/2020 09:38

Also, I had a rather adventurous youth and have thus picked up men in some interesting places. Public toilets, though? Pretty sure it's only men who do that.

Some people might think a basic common sense precaution is allowing some spaces where women are vulnerable to be female only.

Pertella · 25/05/2020 10:15

I wouldnt let my children play with a random dog unsupervised. I'm not sure many parents would.

attackedbycritters · 25/05/2020 10:15

We control which types of dogs you can own and if we have sense we don't allow children to play unsupervised with dogs and we teach the children how to play safely with the dogs

So yes, we don't allow children to play with dogs in general, only under certain conditions

And the point is?

nauticant · 25/05/2020 10:23

Acknowledging that men as a group poses risks seems to send out a bat signal. Are posters turning up on this thread in shifts?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 25/05/2020 10:29

Does the signal read NOT ALL MEN?

This is probably the best argument I've ever seen for abolishing same sex spaces!

"Women need same sex spaces and the have worked well now for about 100 years"
"But, they're discriminatory, it's like stopping children playing with puppies"

Grin
TheProdigalKittensReturn · 25/05/2020 10:44

Also kids need to be protected from dogs, but not from men, obviously.

This thread isn't actually about dangerous dogs though. So that's why we've inexplicably failed to cover it.

FWR in "only talking about men" exclusive!

Gncq · 25/05/2020 10:49

When women only public spaces first ever came into existence in the UK in the 19th century, the plans to build them were deliberately set back, they were protested and sabotaged and even burned down.

We know some people out there can't stand the idea of women only spaces. We know this. It's an every day reminder that they are not to be taken for granted.

We have only had women only spaces for a historically short period of time. It's amazing how the fight is still on.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 25/05/2020 10:51

Why does FWR never talk about the risk of being bitten by a shark? Presumably not in a public toilet, but still, it happens and you nasty ladies never mention it at all!
