Suzanne Moore - naming and shaming

Suzanne Moore is naming and shaming her Guardian colleagues/friends who signed the letter condemning her column. She’s obviously feeling completely betrayed but I’m worried this is going to backfire for her. Tell you what - massive balls though.

Well if they were proper journalists they would have read it throughly and thought carefully before adding their name.

What pissed me off about the "don't burn bridges" message was that it's okay for 300 odd people to gang up on her because they thought it was anonymous, but it's not okay for her to fight back? That is so typical of our culture. And it's why, in a slightly different context, so many many women sign NDAs when they are at the receiving end of bullying or sexual harassment - they don't want to "burn bridges". We see it on here all the time, "My boss is a complete dickhead, but this is a small industry and I don't want to make waves."

God, wouldn't it be nice if we lived in a world where people who are the sly, mean, bullying, sexual harassing ones are the ones who have to be worried about their reputations.

Burn bridges my ass. You go Suzanne.

What is it with all these supposedly intelligent adults signing statements/letters and then taking no responsibility for having done so?

Do they consider them the same as various terms and conditions for apps which we mostly agree to without reading?

The signatories have tried to give the impfession they represent the Guardian staff, Suzaanne has reminded them they only represent themsleves.

I've not seen Nick Cohen's name and she was bantering with him last night before I went to bed and it all kicked off. At least I thought it was banter....

Good, if true.....

but seriously annoyed that they think their mighty disapproval should have any sway over the editorial decisions of the UK arm of the newspaper.

The pompous and sanctimonious US Guardian article R0 posted upthread, written in response to an uncharacteristically reasonable one about our own fucking law, is one of the most annoying things I've ever read. I was raging.

If any other British institution was so influenced US voices, the Guardian would be bleating about cultural imperialism.

What a champ! Refusing to play by the rules.

And what utter cowards the signatories are.

Can't produce the receipts.

Wanted to stay anonymous.

Yeah, fuck off with that.

GO, SUZANNE!!! Star

Love that tweet.

not only did they want to stay anonymous, they didn't have the guts to name Suzanne, nor did they produce any evidence, they did not list any demands. They simply wanted Kath Viner to make the nasty woman go away.

Article by Julie Bindel:

I didn't realise this, bolded bit:
"When Moore wrote a perfectly reasonable opinion piece on how feminists are being abused, de-platformed and otherwise silenced by trans-extremists and their allies, 338 cowardly snakes signed a letter to the editor, on the condition that their names would not be made public, denouncing ‘trans-phobic’ coverage in the paper."

Snakes is the right word.

Just want to say this, because it's not said enough. Newspapers are collective efforts: from the news reporters to the sub editors to the columnists to the cleaners to the producers to the admin staff. I couldn't do my own job without an amazing hard working team. So thank you

I couldn't get nasty little bullying campaigns to work without all the other woman haters in my workplace, so thank you to all the people who agreed to anonymously join in.

Only just read the thread, and I rarely post, but have to say I am over the fucking moon about a) the lack of Marina Hyde's name and b) the supportive (of Suzanne, if not explicitly the cause) Ian Rankin tweet.

It would be really good, for those of us not on twitter, to understand the content of any references that are made. Ian Rankin tweet?

Welcome to the club. there are now other, and various, news sources that are, in fact, like a breath of fresh air......the Guardian has become so predictable and stifling...and frickin' annoying.

Suzanne has flicked the privacy switch on her account now. I do note that Nicky Clark is vocal in her support.

I’m not able to retweet Suzanne's tweets - is that normal?
