I need to sit down.
It beggars belief.

What has identifying as a woman got to do with anything?

The RI has horrific staff turnover and lost its way years ago
but "identify as" is unforgivable

Even without the “identify” nonsense, it’s a disappointingly patronising question. Why should women need a specific reason to watch science videos? Did they think we were trawling YouTube for make-up tutorials and stumbled upon them by mistake?

For crying out loud.

When it comes to the design of survey questions, how about asking women what they think they should be asking.

Interestingly they changed their language on Facebook which was posted later to ‘if you are a woman’

I wanted a further comment box on the survey so I could tell them I watch videos about biology and not gender.

How about designing a survey aimed at getting men more proactive in the home.

How about we set up a consultant panel of 5 people consisting of 2 women and 2 lesbians and a trans man.

Sounds reasonable to me.

Not only that, but the survey is incredibly patronizing.

I had so much fun answering it.

Let's just say there's a comment box, plus you can give them whatever name and email address you like.

I take huge comfort from the massively gender critical replies - everybody, both male and female, calling the RI out on this unscientific nonsense. At last, some common sense from the previously silent majority. Keep it coming!

We’re really sad to see the negative feedback this tweet has received - we want to be as inclusive as possible. Our most recent video had an 89/11 demographic split, and through this survey we’re trying to understand why

I've subscribed to New Scientist for over 30 years and still find theoretical cosmology articles mind numbingly dull

People quite rightly replying to that tweet ^ asking how they know it’s an 89/11 split if they don’t know what sex is.
