"If you identify as a woman" they'd like you to complete their survey to understand what women watch. twitter.com/Ri_Science/status/1232681119939731458

"Michael Faraday must be turning in her grave."

Haha, right you....how do I get coffee out of a keyboard 😆

NotTerfNorCis · 26/02/2020 19:30

The responses to that tweet are 100% GC. And TRAs think most people support their ideology? Give your heads a wobble TRAs.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/02/2020 19:33

I bring you the application form to join Women's Voices at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. I wonder how the experiences of those who identify as women are useful?

Too much to hope that those questions are in order to correctly direct some responses to the bin?

Languishingfemale · 26/02/2020 19:41

Stellar responses to that tweet. Well done those wims. Grin

Cuntysnark · 26/02/2020 19:55

The comment box, if I remember correctly, is when we are asked what other science sources we use. I referenced Life of Brian for the biology too.

Disfordarkchocolate · 26/02/2020 19:58

I have applied, I wonder if I will find out? It would be interesting to discuss childbirth and the menopause with someone who is just 'feeling' like a women.

drum123 · 26/02/2020 20:08

Nowhere to put a comment on the RI survey as PP has said, but on the question asking about the types of science videos I watch I answered 'I only watch science videos that identify as science videos not ones that are actually science videos.' And on the subjects that interest me, I answered 100% biology and 0% for all others. Completely lied about everything else! A small triumph, but it feels good.

ListeningQuietly · 26/02/2020 20:09

Languishing
A LOT of those Twitter responses are from blokes who work in science trying to widen participation (I recognise several of the accounts)

I used my name as an extra comment box ;-)

Siameasy · 26/02/2020 20:11

Yes! A few years ago there would not have been this response. People are sick of it.

Cwenthryth · 26/02/2020 20:13

That Twitter thread is an absolute joy to behold. Who’d have thunk it a few years ago hey.

Cwenthryth · 26/02/2020 20:13

Jinx siameasy Grin

drum123 · 26/02/2020 20:14

I've applied too. Only so that I can tell them what I think of their application form. FFS, how can the RCOG use the phrase 'sex assigned at birth'?

littlbrowndog · 26/02/2020 20:20

Cripes that royal college

Assigned at birth.

Cripes how does that actually work

Women’s voices. Cripes.

What if I am waiting on my assignation
How will I get my assignment

It’s all a mystery yet to be uncovered£

littlbrowndog · 26/02/2020 20:22

Can I assign myself as just anything

Can the royal college. Assign me now if I asked them nicely

Disfordarkchocolate · 26/02/2020 20:22

I had fun filling that in. You can be quite inventive with the 'other' response. I wonder if they bother to analyse the survey?

ListeningQuietly · 26/02/2020 20:29

Dear Royal College
there are white bits of the world outside Britain and Ireland Hmm

mindtheclegs · 26/02/2020 20:32

That Twitter thread is an absolute joy to behold. Who’d have thunk it a few years ago hey.

I oblivious to of all of this until last summer. Was this just not allowed back then?

EndoplasmicReticulum · 26/02/2020 20:33

It's the scientists who don't know what a woman is that really disappoint me. Did enjoy reading the responses to that one though.

mcduffy · 26/02/2020 20:35

Thanks for flagging, thoroughly enjoyed that read Grin

gassylady · 26/02/2020 20:42

Have filled out too. I like to watch videos that are made by people who know what a woman is and recognise that biological sex cannot be changed. I wonder how many of those they will make 🙄😁

boatyardblues · 26/02/2020 20:43

I oblivious to of all of this until last summer. Was this just not allowed back then?

I remember some gender critical sentiment/quote slipping through in a mainstream newspaper article around 2017 and everyone on here being a) amazed - the ‘hushed tones and startled’ kind of amazed - and a little bit hopeful and b) worried that it would get squashed and shut down immediately. You have no idea how much of a stranglehold #nodebate had on the media even 3 years ago. The coverage now would have been gobsmacking back then. It’s taken a lot of brave women sticking their heads above the parapet and the collective efforts of thousands of women talking about it in every day life and persisting to move things this far. We’re not out of the woods, but we aren’t muzzled in the same way now. The sunlight is, indeed, powerful.

mcduffy · 26/02/2020 20:47

I used to scroll past all the FWR threads in active and wonder what all the fuss was about, until ocado about 18 months ago. Don't remember much coverage even then. My mum has started sending me any coverage in the Telegraph, as I'm a Times subscriber (isn't it the law to be on FWR?)

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 26/02/2020 20:53

Oh the RCOG one was particularly fun Grin (& also, you know, terrifying Sad)

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 26/02/2020 20:53

The backlash against gender bollocks is happening hard and fast now that people have noticed that they're not the only ones annoyed by it. Institutions have been caught on the hop, having had no idea that the public mood had shifted from "quietly and resentfully tolerating what's clearly nonsense/a bit confused and feel bad for not liking this" to "not having it any more".

It's going to be extra awkward for those who're jumping on the bandwagon right as it starts to crash into the bushes.

mindtheclegs · 26/02/2020 20:59

On the RCOG - I also filled in the app form, but can anyone recommend any MPs, Ministers, RCOG Heads to write to about this?
DM if you'd prefer.
I think perhaps the people setting up the surveys might generally be young media / comms grads who've been indoctrinated - some of them might just think it's what has to be done (by law?).
