Well, not branded as story hour, but the drag queen is reading a story to primary school children... Brought in by an MP (Mhairi Black)

“Thank you to Flow and @MhairiBlack for sharing their experiences with us today. It was really important to hear about Section 28 and the negative effect it had. Thankfully now we teach #LGBTEducation proudly at @Glencoats_PS #LGBTQProud @LGBTYS @LGBTHistoryScot

Seems she is being marked out for high office.

She seems to display a remarkable lack of astuteness for someone aspiring to better things. I still find it amazing that she came out with this quote:

“You just know that the people pretending to be livid that a drag queen read a book in a school. . . are also the people who run out to buy their kids the latest Grand Theft Auto on release day. Your homophobia is transparent.”

Some of those will be parents in her constituency. Why would you want to piss off the people who vote for you? And why not just back down gracefully rather than going on the attack?

Mockersisrightasusual · 26/02/2020 16:04

Whilst several SNP and other Scottish MPs have resorted to quotes in Lallands, Black is the only MP who goes out of her way to say disnae and wasnae and such like in her speeches. To me it sounds cultivated, like a reverse Roy Jenkins.

Perhaps some are impressed?

BickerinBrattle · 26/02/2020 16:10

What does Black or any of these idiots know about child development?

It’s just gobsmacking hearing them pronounce “no harm” when they themselves have no foundation from which to judge that.

I thought it had long been understood, in child development, that young children DO pick up on adult sexuality but have no context for it, no means of understanding it, and that it frightens and disturbs them. We do know that paraphilias can be set quite early in life when something not sexual takes on a sexual charge for a child.

The idea that all of these young children aren’t picking up sexuality vibes from a drag queen is simply not true. Not all may be doing so, but without doubt some are.

In fact, writing this, I begin to wonder if those who originally came up with the idea of DQST actually DO have some clues about this aspect of child development.

Coming from a long line of teacher's , I always thought the key quality that a teacher needed was to be sensible...

I think this is no longer the case.

fascinated · 26/02/2020 16:31

Thanks Autocorrect! That’s funny.

Tombakersscarf · 26/02/2020 18:36

I don't know what MB sitting at the front might mean in terms of her status but don't overlook that John Swinney - deputy first minister - has criticised what happened.

Lordfrontpaw · 26/02/2020 18:41

Unless it’s a ‘see this yin?’ Before a public defrocking.

Evenquieterlife33 · 26/02/2020 18:53

FFS this persons stage name is FLOW JOB. And some duck head invited them into a primary school. Sorry but wake the fuck up- how the hell is that appropriate. Drag is for pubs bars night clubs. They will be inviting pole dancers in next to teach p.e. In the name of inclusivity. Oh no sorry they won’t- it only counts as inclusive if it’s a male.

Evenquieterlife33 · 26/02/2020 18:53

Sorry *dickhead.

bellinisurge · 26/02/2020 19:20

"the people pretending to be livid that a drag queen read a book in a school. . . are also the people who run out to buy their kids the latest Grand Theft Auto on release day."

Nope. They just think it was a shit and inappropriate idea.

Lordfrontpaw · 26/02/2020 19:20

How would she know - this is a fact is it?

Goosefoot · 26/02/2020 19:41

It seems to be a thing in recent years, these very young 'star" types being sucked right out of student politics into the big leagues. There is this idea that it will make progress faster, I think, since we all want progress and the young are presumably further ahead in terms of their timescale, they have some innate ability to recognise what progress will be..

Lordfrontpaw · 26/02/2020 19:44

She must believe her own hype. Wunderkind she is not. She comes across as gobby, self opinionated and immature without an ounce of self awareness. Just want you want in your MP!

Tootsweets23 · 26/02/2020 20:10

Several days later and I'm still astounded anyone is defending this person in a primary school.

FFS CBeebies presenters don't publish photos of themselves spitting semen out. Or if they did, they would lose their jobs.

I've always thought of myself as open minded but the idea you'd extend an anything goes attitude to primary school kids is just mental.

It's time for Mhairi to resign. This grave error of judgement has placed children at unnecessary risk, contrary to all safeguarding principles, and clearly demonstrates that she is unfit for public office. The HT can do one too.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 26/02/2020 20:25

Remember the oddness around how allegations against Challenor were handled, and how much openly being a wanker on sm Madigan got away with? I think all the parties are suffering from a sort of Rising Young Star Syndrome where they're very proud of having someone young who's a "name" in their parties and very reluctant to give that up even as it becomes clear that Young Star is also a bit dim and probably a political liability. Chasing the youth vote and assuming older people will be all, aw, they're not much use are they, but you have to cut them a bit of slack because they're only young.

lionheart · 26/02/2020 21:26

It's worse than we thought:

'Scotland has come so far, but dark forces are now circling.'

Lordfrontpaw · 26/02/2020 21:34

That is in the Independent (it’s a rag).

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 26/02/2020 21:35

but dark forces are now circling

We're the witches from McBeth, come to...um...tell you the truth? That's not very nice, is it, being honest?

LexMitior · 26/02/2020 21:41

To be really, really generous here - it is just possible that Mhari Black lacks the maturity to understand that most adults do not want the concerns of adult sexuality imposed on children. Of any kind.

At that age for children it may be reasonable to make reference to the idea that people can have differing attractions to other people. But there is zero need for children to concern themselves with what is an adult need to be recognised. That is what drag is.

Comfort in ones sexuality should not necessitate acting it in front of children.

Lordfrontpaw · 26/02/2020 21:46

She is not a child. She is an adult and works with other grown ups (one assumes).

She hasn’t got kids and is mates with an immature drag act (makes you wonder who else her mates are) and I can imagine them sitting around making willy and fanny jokes.

Definitely not ‘the right stuff’. I can’t imagine her sitting through debates on distributing free incontinence odd to those who need it or the length of waiting lists for hernia ops.

Evenquieterlife33 · 26/02/2020 21:48

That Head Teacher wants sacking. Nobody who thinks that’s is appropriate should be anywhere near children.

Evenquieterlife33 · 26/02/2020 21:49

*anybody- I can’t type tonight.

Dances · 26/02/2020 22:16

Fussing over young men - bang on prodigal

BilboBercow · 26/02/2020 22:18

Yep. Flow Job. So appropriate
