Well, not branded as story hour, but the drag queen is reading a story to primary school children... Brought in by an MP (Mhairi Black)

“Thank you to Flow and @MhairiBlack for sharing their experiences with us today. It was really important to hear about Section 28 and the negative effect it had. Thankfully now we teach #LGBTEducation proudly at @Glencoats_PS #LGBTQProud @LGBTYS @LGBTHistoryScot

I hope that's peaked a few more into completing the consultation.
Mhairi Black is an idiot.

Couldn't agree more.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 23/02/2020 12:00

It’s a primary school in one of the most deprived areas of Scotland. The level of deprivation is horrifying.

Babdoc · 23/02/2020 12:31

Complete side issue, but DidoLamenting, you’re not quite right about the pronunciation of Mhairi.
It is indeed Gaelic, but it’s pronounced with an M in the nominative and a V in the accusative.
So you’d say “Mhairi is an idiot” but “I can’t stand Vhairi”.
Or at least you would if you shared my opinion of the ignorant SNP poster child!

I am genuinely confused as to why drag is suddenly being promoted so much as part of "LGBT education". Drag has nothing to do with lesbians and bisexual women and I thought the hardcore trans rights activists were pretty anti-drag as well? I'm sure I read a story about TRAs trying to ban cross-dressing fancy dress at universities a while ago.

To be honest I do have some sympathy with transwomen who don't really like drag as it is essentially presenting men in dresses and make up as comedy entertainment. A lot of the "comedy" of drag and pantomime dames has historically been in the fact that "you can tell it's a man in a wig".

So why are drag queens suddenly being pushed to the fore? Are we witnessing an attempt to sanitise drag and make it about "gender fluidity" rather than laughing at men with huge plastic tits and a husky voice? Why is this happening? Is it because gay men who like drag have so much influence over the LGBT as a whole?

I hope all the parents ask them how much of their budget is getting spent on this nonsense. Angry

definitelygc · 23/02/2020 15:37

Wait... Flow is short for "flowjob queen"?! What. The. Fuck.

testing987654321 · 23/02/2020 16:21

I just saw that they call themselves flowsaphine @flowjobqueen on Twitter. I have looked at the account and many of the tweets say The following media includes potentially sensitive content.

I haven't clicked to find out why, but I am guessing not suitable for primary school kids.

definitelygc · 23/02/2020 16:34

I found this image on their Twitter which shows their official drag name is "Flow Job". So a school has invited a Drag Queen called "Flow Job" to read books to children. Mother of God.

Who did you write to at the school? From what I could see on Twitter it was the Head who was promoting all this.

There is a lot of gratuitous swearing (although I admit that I think most swearing is gratuitous unless you have slammed the car door on your hand whilst simultaneously dropping a large bag of cat food on your toe and your house keys down a drain) which is not suitable for children. I don't think children should be given a role model who thinks dropping gratuitous swearing into every day conversation is normal or acceptable.

There is also a brief video clip which confirms that whoever said burlesque is fat girls stripping is spot on.

CallofDoodee · 23/02/2020 17:20

Holy fucking shit - so that's why the HT couldn't tag the Drag Queen in her tweet as well as Mhairi - because their twitter handle is '@flowjobqueen' and on their twitter feed they have, amongst other things, a video of themselves simulating fellatio. Oh and their best mate, who they tag more than once is called @queenqueef_666.

I am absolutely... I just don't know what to say! What the actual fuck is Mhairi Black on? Why every single fucking day do I see something new around this whole issue which just makes me despair? Is anyone here in Mhairi Black's constituency?!

OhHolyJesus · 23/02/2020 17:20

Flowjob? Shortened to Flow to 'sanitise' it for primary school children?

Like Diamond Goodrim becoming Diamond, this is just vile.

No wonder the HT has made her Twitter account private. Hope she encounters a backlash tomorrow, like the parents don't have better things to do.

definitelygc · 23/02/2020 17:38

A question - how do Mumsnetters feel about tipping off papers with stories like this? Would the Times be interested? There's always the Daily Mail but they are vile.

My worry is that, if not written correctly, these stories will give oxygen to the genuine homophobes. Gay men have been fighting for years against nasty stereotypes about being sexual deviants or preying on children.

Then again, I am seriously concerned by this growing trend of having adult entertainers with names like "flow job" visiting schools and libraries. This should sound every safeguarding alarm.

LynnSchmob · 23/02/2020 17:40

Absolutely none of the children would go home and google the drag queen who read them some stories? the HT should be sacked because of a total disregard to basic child safe guarding. A complete disgrace.

testing987654321 · 23/02/2020 17:41

How about some gay men speak out about this then? Pink News, for example, is ideally placed to point out that adult drag acts should not be performing to children.

Imnobody4 · 23/02/2020 17:51

Apart from anything else it's giving children a distorted idea of what it means to be gay. I hope one of them asks the HT if that's how she dresses when not at school.

Mockersisrightasusual · 23/02/2020 18:06

You just know that furry storry time is just a moment away.

Dominatrix SS Experiment Camp story time might take a bit longer.

Deliriumoftheendless · 23/02/2020 18:09

Appropriate Role Model story time will take even longer.

Lordfrontpaw · 23/02/2020 18:09

DS would have had a bloody stroke - he really hated people dressing up and pretending to be someone else. Actors saying they were playing a part, fine, but someone saying ‘I am xyz’ and he would get really cross and tell them off (for lying I suppose).

You’re not a banana! (outside a cafe)
You’re not Mary Anning! (natural history museum)
You’re not the yo-yo bear! (for some reason getting off the bus at the end of the road -
Complete with fig leaf)

Mockersisrightasusual · 23/02/2020 18:14

We need to warn children about the dangers. Someone needs to come up with a children's story about a dangerous creature, say a big bad wolf, who dresses up as a harmless granny to gain access to a vulnerable child whose mother has no idea about safeguarding.

Lordfrontpaw · 23/02/2020 18:15

Haha! Perfect.

DojaCat · 23/02/2020 18:16

There was a 'Drag Queen Story Time' event at the National Gallery the other day. DP and I thought, how inappropriate?

I even watched a show at the South Bank for children called Duckie. A modern spin on The Ugly Duckling on stage, played by a drag queen. There was something very "off" about. I didnt like it one bit.

Iggypoppie · 23/02/2020 18:22

The lad going by the name of FlowJob seems nice enough but he is not a suitable person to be reading to school kids in his drag persona. Whoever invited him is an irresponsible idiot. Here's his twitter pics that are obviously easily found by young people.

Iggypoppie · 23/02/2020 18:26

Why has this person been invited to schools again?
