Ugh. LRM is unfortunately my local MP and showed me very little respect or willingness to listen when I approached him on this topic with vast amounts of evidence as to how this harms women. He acted like a gigantic prick who can't listen to other people then, and all.

Well done Selina.

EwwSprouts · 12/02/2020 12:59

TheShoesa yes here you go, beardy speaking first before he decided to rant over everyone.

In his mind, he was probably dunking you in the river to see if you are witch.

The tabloid propaganda newspaper reminded me of Militant, which I used to sell when I was a student and in the Young Socialists. The content of the paper was very simplistic and one sided compared to the complex debates that actually went on in Militant and one of the reasons I started going to Militant meetings was that they had long intelligent (but male dominated) debates on policy where as the local LP ward meetings seemed boring and tied up in procedure and discussing fundraising jumble sales etc not what the LP actually stood for.
There were a lot of intelligent journalists, teachers and social workers in Militant who were more Guardian readers than Sun readers so I asked why The Militant was so simplistic.
"It's aimed at "the workers" and they can't read very well and prefer papers like The Sun" was my answer.
Ironic when the people buying it from me were largely middle aged middle class looking commuters who looked like they normally read broadsheets.
I think producing a paper for an imaginary audience of other people who aren't like you is usually a mistake. It's patronising and it's silly. A paper for the thick Labour Party people "up North" rather than the LP intelligentsia in Islington who can cope with The Guardian.
(The only paper I now subscribe to is The Spectator which does have a variety of views despite its right wing posh boy bias)

Thanks AnotherNight and Sprouts

On its own the Selina Clip is so measured and commonsensical (Is that even a word?) I thought it was odd that the BBC chose this as their clip - I hadn't realised that there were others!

Mockersisrightasusual · 12/02/2020 13:05

Show ended on an interesting note. Tracey Brabin is auctioning that dress, with all proceeds to Girlguinding because, she says, "They do so much to help the confidence of girls."

ChickenNuggetsChipsAndBeans · 12/02/2020 13:05

Bearded man was so angry, it was quite shocking to see.

JessicaLangoustine · 12/02/2020 13:08

@KatieAlcock will be interested in hearing that, Mockersisrightasusual GGUK have expensive lawyers to pay too.

billydilly · 12/02/2020 13:10

I'm also familiar with Beardy. I'm in Hove with a moderate and hugely popular Labour MP, Peter Kyle. Beardy and his Momentum cronies have been gunning for Kyle for months, machinations in the local council elections may have put him at risk were it not for the December election which returned Peter with a huge majority, dwarfing Beardy's. He's a bully, none too bright either.

dayoftheclownfish · 12/02/2020 13:20

LRM (Beardy) does seem to have issues with emotional self-regulation. Just watch the tail end of his victory speech after the GE in December.

Brava Selina. You are a ⭐️

JessicaLangoustine · 12/02/2020 13:24

It's funny how these misogynists always say women are the emotional sex; yet, what is all this rabid hatred if not strong emotion?

TheShoesa · 12/02/2020 13:26

Blimey, that victory speech is rather aggressive. 'We will fight them in the streets?!'

I do rather like the Tory candidate's response that the speech was 'toxic' and that it was not aligned with the "kinder, gentler politics" promise by Jeremy Corbyn

RoyalCorgi · 12/02/2020 13:35

They really are showing their true colours now, aren't they? The hatred and anger that spews out of men like the Beardy WokeBro and his supporters on Twitter shows that they're not even bothering to disguise their misogyny any more. They don't think Selina Todd and other women like her should be allowed to speak. They want us silenced.

Misogyny, in all its raw, vile ugliness.

Michelleoftheresistance · 12/02/2020 13:36

Selina watching him burble and shaking her head with a faint smile....

I particularly liked the bit about no platforming is obviously bad - but no, women shouldn't be allowed to meet together and talk about women's rights and issues. Because that's hate.

Well it's a beautiful example of exactly the lunacy the Labour party are standing squarely behind. 'We say no to reality. We say no to women's rights or women talking about their rights or women really, and we definitely say no to science and biology'. Righto then...….

MsSafina · 12/02/2020 13:45

The far left just made Labour even more unelectable.

Doyoumind · 12/02/2020 13:46

The DM covered the story earlier, and I was surprised to see a fairly balanced piece in the Guardian on it just now.

Beardy still getting a beating on Twitter.

RheaRanged · 12/02/2020 13:47

Oh I miss all the fun - i so enjoy watching a beardie, woke bro get all testerical.

Mockersisrightasusual · 12/02/2020 13:54

Nappyvalley15 · 12/02/2020 14:20

Well done Selina. You aced it!
Beardy bloke was ear deep in nonsense. Needs to be kept away from power for a long time.

ArranUpsideDown · 12/02/2020 14:25

he was probably dunking you in the river to see if you are witch.

Is this the new #ExpelMe ?

Except that we should definitely have the safety boats and divers nearby because we will sink.

GCAcademic · 12/02/2020 14:29

#DunkMe does have a nice ring to it, perhaps we should move on to that when Twitter removes the latest hashtag. Though there is always the danger that people might think you identify as a Hobnob.
