New Year New Judicial Review? CPS Hate Crime Guidance for schools

If you haven't seen this, I think you should.

In brief, the CPS have published guidance about hate crimes in school - but won't let parents see the guidance. Its for teachers only. I've emailed for a copy and so have others. I have a child in the school system. I want to know how serious the risk is that she will be arrested and charged for discussing biology.

I think anyone else who is also worried should email the CPS and ask to see the guidance.

Teachers and schools can download the pack from this website. This is a resource for schools, so a password is required to download the pack. This can be requested by emailing [email protected].

Spero I suspect they asked you to delay publishing because it gave them time to put their own spin on it. May be a good lesson not to delay publishing in future.

Spero · 01/02/2020 23:02

I don't think they delayed publishing at all. I think they had no intention of publishing anything until it became clear how many journalists were sniffing about and the story would be their refusal to publish.

So that was probably the most sensible thing they could have done in terms of damage limitation as it took away one of the most chilling and sinister aspects of the whole thing - that parents were not to see ANY of it.

However I am glad it is public and I hope as many people as possible read it and complain about it. I hope there is also going to be a JR or this.

It has to end now. Its gone beyond ridiculous and back again.

I agree I don’t think they were going to publish until you said you would; that is why they asked you to delay publishing so they could get some control of the story.

Datun · 02/02/2020 00:14

They don't appear to understand the public interest in this. I know lots of people don't know about it, but the amount who do is still significant. How could they not imagine it would be shared far and wide?

It's just another example of how disassociated they are.

It just strikes me as very poor classroom material, full of leading questions with closed answers, no opportunity for debate and discussion of diversity of values.

And it looks like it drives a coach and horses through this:

I don't flatter myself that my decision to blog or not made the slightest difference to their thought process.

What made them publish was various newspapers contacting them for comment. Which underscores how important the press can be and how frightening it is that their collective reporting is so poor - some honourable exceptions of course, thank you Janice Turner.

So I think we cannot rely on the press to notice or care. I hope the Sunday Times today on the father who says he will face prison rather than allow his 9 year old to be taught about 'being born in the wrong body' will wake more people up.

But I don't think we can assume it will help, given the extent of institutional capture so far seen. We have to involve our MPs.

I think the media have very effectively branded the whole Parkfield protest as a load of muslim extremists who want to kill gay people.

Cuntysnark · 02/02/2020 09:02

Spero I’ve sent it to my own MP & another MP with whom I engaged meaningfully at a totally unrelated event last week. I hijacked him and he seemed to get it.

The Safe Schools Alliance have created a template letter to use to contact the CPS about this - I've emailed and sent via snail mail this morning. Details at:
