I know there is a split of opinion about spoiling ballots vs voting for the least bad option.

If you do decide to spoil your ballot it feel free to post a photo of it here (be careful not to include any information that identifies you and in particular not to include the ballot's unique identification number) in case any of our loitering journalists wish to pick up the story or in the hope of giving the parties/candidates some pause for thought.

In case it is of interest (and you want a place to post your views for/against spoiling ballots), there have been a number of threads about spoiling ballots, a few links below:

My husband (GC) spoilt our ballots. We're in a very safe Labour seat so it felt 'safe' to do so. I'm not sure what I would've done if we were in a marginal seat, probably voted to keep the Tories out.

LukewarmCustard · 13/12/2019 02:43

I voted Labour. But I wrote on my ballot paper that they almost didn't get my vote and that genuine single sex exemptions are important. I have no idea if this will have any impact in a safe Labour seat, but it was a choice between this or spoiling my ballot paper.

I'm sure that Labour party strategists will read this thread. If they aren't prepared to act on the concerns of GC women, then had better get used to being in Opposition.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 13/12/2019 02:53

If you've written on your ballot paper as well as voting, it's likely counted as spoiled anyway.

FlyingOink · 13/12/2019 02:58

Except we've established that in a close run thing it will be discussed to see if the person's intent is clear
Like the news story posted about "not wank" counting as a vote.

Dammit. Just listened to the declaration for Richmond. As soon as the mayor started listing reasons for rejection the BBC commentary cut in. Anyone hear reasons for rejection anywhere?

FlyingOink · 13/12/2019 03:28

I think we might not hear anything, the naysayers on this thread will see that as proof of our badness, but I think the big story for tonight is Labour areas going blue after decades of being red.
I don't think we'll hear much analysis from the pundits on women's rights tonight.

PJsatMidday · 13/12/2019 03:45

Swinson out. Serves her bloody right.

TiredofthisBS · 13/12/2019 05:41

Just seen the results. Labour and the libdems have no one to blame but themselves. When will they realise that when people tell you how they feel, listen instead of dismissing them out of hand.

Labour were warned this would happen, they decided that our votes weren't good enough for them. Perhaps now there will be from reflection and navel gazing over what went wrong.

I also think the sheer aggression of the Labour Party activists didn't help. It all very well being shouty online but people lurk, they watch. They silently cast there vote.

I'm not at all pleased that we have a Tory government again but this should be a wake up call to the parties that they are way off base with the general public.

TiredofthisBS · 13/12/2019 05:58

Sorry it's really eating the morning and my grammar and spelling is appalling.

Hereyougosandwiches · 13/12/2019 06:09

Tone deaf comments from momentum this morning, saying we must keep the party socialist and there is no appetite to return to the centre ground. Sorry, have they actually seen the results?

TiredofthisBS · 13/12/2019 06:11

That's the sound of desperation. The jig is up for momentum and they know it.

TerfinUSA99 · 13/12/2019 06:23

In my constituency, 0.45% of the papers were spoiled.
Tories held the seat and got 3000 more than the LDs.

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/12/2019 06:39

So many penises?!

Spoilt votes - post them here so that the parties/papers can see them
FlyingOink · 13/12/2019 06:42

250 spoiled votes in my constituency apparently. Hopefully some of them for the same reason as mine!

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/12/2019 06:44

I'm fuming that a woke male on my fb feed is pontificating over how it's the right wing press's fault, and a working class who swallow right wing propaganda Shock^^

Honestly, no mate, you are half the problem.

I now know that the daily fail is one of the few papers to actually speak out for women, especially with regards to reporting on horrendous abuse cases that the others ignore. So much more nuanced than this.

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/12/2019 06:45

All hail the woman with the pink pen!

HandsOffMyRights · 13/12/2019 06:50

The indignation that a woman with a pink pen dared to air her views!

I think she is Stickerwoman.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 13/12/2019 06:51

Where do you find spoiled vote stats?

TiredofthisBS · 13/12/2019 06:57

Just under four hundred spoilt ballots in my area (one of them mine).

OvertheInfluence · 13/12/2019 07:04

100 spoilt ballots in my area and a recount so I bet those spoilt votes were scrutinised
Sex not gender
No to self-id

FlyingOink · 13/12/2019 07:19
Posie's comments from September
FlyingOink · 13/12/2019 07:20

Where do you find spoiled vote stats?

My local council website had the results on a pdf with a breakdown of spoilt votes

mcduffy · 13/12/2019 07:21

I spoiled mine with:
NONE
PROTECT WOMEN'S RIGHTS
NO TO SELF-ID
I couldn't vote for any of them with any conscience.

GCAcademic · 13/12/2019 07:22

355 in my constituency, up from 155 last time, and turnout lower this time as well.

Fieldofgreycorn · 13/12/2019 07:24

The interesting thing now is that a new generation of Tory women have just been voted in to govern the country. In considerable numbers.
