Spoilt votes - post them here so that the parties/papers can see them

I know there is a split of opinion about spoiling ballots vs voting for the least bad option.

If you do decide to spoil your ballot it feel free to post a photo of it here (be careful not to include any information that identifies you and in particular not to include the ballot's unique identification number) in case any of our loitering journalists wish to pick up the story or in the hope of giving the parties/candidates some pause for thought.

In case it is of interest (and you want a place to post your views for/against spoiling ballots), there have been a number of threads about spoiling ballots, a few links below:

Sorry that last bit was to Maiden

raisinseverywhere · 12/12/2019 17:34

Maidenover - I agree with all those issues, and I would never vote Tory. However, I absolutely cannot vote for Labour this time due to antisemitism. So LD and Green were the only other alternatives - which I also felt didn’t deserve my vote.

TiredofthisBS · 12/12/2019 17:35

And just how do you expect us to vote for people who can't or won't represent us?

maidenover · 12/12/2019 17:35

ps I’m not a labour voter I never have been, but anyone not actively voting against this conservative government and the shit show is complicit in allowing them back in to put the final nail in the coffin of this countries future.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 12/12/2019 17:36

I don't know about anyone else but I dgaf when certain posters whinge about other issues. Women WILL come first. There absolutely is no bigger issue than the rights - the PERSONHOOD - of 51% of the population. Maybe they think that mums are unconditionally caring and self-sacrificing and only ever think of others. In reality, being a mum makes me immune to guilt trips.

DuckWillow · 12/12/2019 17:36

Anyway the Conservatives will win. And don't forget they are lead by a man who thinks women are only worth a quick shag and that they can then be left alone with an unacknowledged baby. All the while he hates lone parents.

But yes you've put pretty stickers and colours on your ballot papers.

Well done. That'll learn em all Hmm

HandsOffMyRights · 12/12/2019 17:37

Oh, the Suffragettes were great improvisers, using cheap and immediate forms of communication such as writing on pavements or distributing flyers to make sure the message travelled far and wide.

To those who dismiss us, who say the spoilt papers won't make a jot of difference, I beg to differ.

There's already media coverage on how women are disenfranchised. There will be lots of social media highlighting the spoilt papers.

VMisaMarshmallow · 12/12/2019 17:37

Maid p*off and read the whole thread. This has been answered 50times already. Stop being so lazy when you are banging us over the head to shut us up, we are much tougher than that. Now go send in one of you’re other awa friends. I plan to watch Lisa Nova in the bath with a glass of wine so will be very happy to tell you what a muppet you are to all you’re different names for ages yet.

TiredofthisBS · 12/12/2019 17:38

Don't be so condescending @DuckWillow I'll not comment on your choice in the ballot box, who do you think you are to comment on mine?

VMisaMarshmallow · 12/12/2019 17:39

Gosh Duck thank you so much for explaining that to my little woman brain, I’m so enlightened now.

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 12/12/2019 17:39

Gosh the breathtaking arrogance of assuming that we're not doing anything IRL when there are many many threads on here detailing how we ARE actively doing something IRL. The breathtaking arrogance of telling us we don't know about 'other issues' like the NHS even though it's been demonstrated multiple times that we do. What it is these posters with their huge egos and superiority complexes don't understand about how self ID changes EVERYTHING for women.

And even if that wasn't so - this is still true

None of them are dealing in actual REALITY. If they can do this over something so straightforward as binary sex, who knows what else they'll redefine to suit?

Anti-scientific reality is not a good look.

Justhadathought · 12/12/2019 17:40

All I’m saying is if you don’t agree with something then actively do something. Don’t leave it to the last day then scribble on a piece of paper and expect anything to change 🤷‍♀️ common sense really

I suspect that many of these lecturing voices that have appeared In order to patronise are of the Labour/Momentum variety. And for those of us who have long been Labour voters, this is one of the reasons that we now feel politically homeless. Along with the general wokeism and preaching, there is a great intolerance for disagreement. Anyone who does not sing from the hymn sheet is morally suspect or a 'phobe' of some sort or other' or else a 'Blairite' - and they, of course, are to be despised.

The Labour party, under Jeremy Corbyn, has become a party of intolerance - while simultaneously, & ironically, flying a flag of 'equality' and 'tolerance'.

And any party with Dawn Butler on the front bench is never going to get my vote.

HandsOffMyRights · 12/12/2019 17:41

Thanks to Maiden Duck and co, my husband is going to spoil his paper too.

We have some pretty purple and green Pentels too.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 12/12/2019 17:41

Corbyn and Labour are no better DuckWillow. It wasn't Tories who violently attacked a women's meeting. It wasn't Tories who viciously abused a group of Jewish people last night either come to think of it.

Justhadathought · 12/12/2019 17:42

Gosh the breathtaking arrogance of assuming that we're not doing anything

Quite!

I suspect youthful idealism and passion, and/or a rather quaint view of who posts on Mumsnet.

Hollygaggles · 12/12/2019 17:42

No picture, but I spoiled my ballot by crossing through the boxes and writing "NONE". At the top I put "NO to SELF ID" and at the bottom I wrote "SEX NOT GENDER". I was fuming as I did so having just had an exchange with a Labour party guy in the foyer who was completely lovely and hopelessly out of synch. I told him Corbyn had stated that TWAW and he told me he was a biologist and a"chromosome was a chromosome" so was completely in agreement with the inability to change sex. I told him to come onto Mumsnet and do some research and he told me he didn't know he was allowed! Bless him! So on the one hand I felt really cross with him for being out of touch and on the other sorry because he's exactly the kind of person the Labour party needs and I respected how he listened and wanted to pass on my message to the party

MsMcWibble · 12/12/2019 17:43

Yes - this is a 'big' issue. Massive. Plus the silencing of dissenting views that has become apparent is scary in many other ways. People losing their jobs - getting visits from the police - what will they choose to do this about next?
My husband has just come back. Spoiled his ballot in support of us!
Here is mine:

Spoilt votes - post them here so that the parties/papers can see them
maidenover · 12/12/2019 17:45

No I will not piss off. I think this is an utterly ridiculous form of protest and if you think this is going to be a big story and get you the coverage you need in this particular election your deluded.

You can try and convince yourself you are the new suffragettes if you like but I’ll be using the vote they fought for later to try and oust my current MP who is anti-abortion, anti-same sex marriage, pro-brexit and is a member of political party that has strong paramilitary links. Enjoy drawing your pretty pictures.

howlsmovingcastle84 · 12/12/2019 17:45

Well, I'll personally be raising a glass of homemade elderflower wine (thanks MIL!) to all my fellow ballot spoilers this evening!
Cheers!!

Hopeforthemany · 12/12/2019 17:45

🤣 it doesn’t matter who anyone votes for or who I vote for. Spoil your papers if you want but it won’t make a difference because they don’t read them or care.

If everyone that spoilt their paper had emailed local MPs/newspapers to voice their opinions then it would of had a much bigger impact. I’m sure some did so not having a go at the ones that have, obviously.

Not sure what’s the problem in pointing out that something won’t actually accomplish anything. I spoilt my paper 10 years ago and nothing changed (surprise surprise).

And it’s not patronising shit I’m just giving a different perspective. That is allowed last time I checked.

Also I have never told anyone who to vote for on this thread.

maidenover · 12/12/2019 17:45

I don’t want to silence your views btw. I actually agree with them. I just disagree with your means of achieving them b

HandsOffMyRights · 12/12/2019 17:46

What is same sex marriage if men claim they are lesbians by the way?

Dangerfloof · 12/12/2019 17:46

I spoiled, only wrote woman =adult human female. Didnt take a pic I was the only one in at the time. I've had no door knockers, no email replies, no letters, no phone calls. Nothing. No answer to my questions about making things better for women. I expect they want us to keep waiting while the "important " stuff is done, again. Well I'm fucked off with waiting. I'm 50 years old, when will it be womens turn.

MsMcWibble · 12/12/2019 17:47

hopeforthemen You have told people how to use their vote.
Out of order.

GCAcademic · 12/12/2019 17:50

If everyone that spoilt their paper had emailed local MPs/newspapers to voice their opinions then it would of had a much bigger impact. I’m sure some did so not having a go at the ones that have, obviously.

Virtually everyone who is active the feminist board has written and spoken to their MPs. And more. Repeatedly.

And I haven't spoilt my ballot to "get noticed" or in the belief that the press would pick up on it. I did it because it was the only thing that I could square with my conscience. You don't get to commandeer that. We live in a democracy and we can use our ballot paper as we see fit.
