Andrea Catherwood (?) interviewing and being quite tigerish. Seems to be in a mood to take no shit.

Yep, listening now

SorrelForbes · 06/12/2019 10:19

Jo Swinson is really struggling, not answering the questions and sounding completely unprepared.

BeforetheFlood · 06/12/2019 10:19

'We need to make sure everyone is protected and there is a group of people who face huge discrimination, huge violence...'

'But we're not talking about those people. I specifically asked you about women.'

Apologies - I think the interviewer is Emma Barnett. She is excellent.

SorrelForbes · 06/12/2019 10:20

"Transwomen are women" - aggggghhhhh

Greenglassteacup · 06/12/2019 10:20

Jo Swindon is coming across like a complete idiot

Greenglassteacup · 06/12/2019 10:21

Oh dear. Just caught the end of it. Not going well.

AbsintheFriends · 06/12/2019 10:23

She was utterly at sea with that. Much use of the word 'c**women'. Nicely followed up by EB asking 'what sort of feminist are you, Jo Swinson?'

She got stomped. Good

Melroses · 06/12/2019 10:25

By gum, it is good to hear her flounder.

It is about time someone tried to skewer this question, (apart from EM who has been brill).

I have to go out now Sad

AbsintheFriends · 06/12/2019 10:27

I am so impressed by Emma Barnett

OP posts:
Greenglassteacup · 06/12/2019 10:29

Yes, brilliant. She wiped the floor with her

thatdamnwoman · 06/12/2019 10:29

Andrea Catherwood is giving her a hell of a grilling (hooray, congratulatory email to CAtherwood in the next hour) quoting the Equalities Act and protected characteristics. Swinson is all over the place. Now floundering regarding the Lord Rennard interview.

I feel bad knocking another woman but she's all over the place and it's clear that women count for nothing within the party. How on earth did she persuade anyone she was the best person to lead the Lib Dems.

As a lesbian I will never forgive her for deflecting questions about TW by talking about a predatory lesbian entering DV shelters. I'm not denying that there are/ have been violent women in relationships with other women but I'd really love to hear something from DV shelters. Have any of them ever had a woman turn up, trying to gain access in order to sexually harass/ attack their former partner?

Emma551 · 06/12/2019 10:30

That was a car crash of an interview. Excellent questions. Woeful responses.

SpringFan · 06/12/2019 10:31

Absolutely brilliant interviewby Emma Barnett.
Jo Swinson was appalling. Definately not voting Lib dem now. Her attempted answers to the questions about Self Identification were ridiculous.

theflushedzebra · 06/12/2019 10:31

Incredible interviewing!

Is...is the world finally waking up?

Woman's Hour would barely touch the subject a year or two ago. That interview was quite something - Swinson was on the ropes.

AbsintheFriends · 06/12/2019 10:32

My mistake - it wasn't Andrea Catherwood but Emma Barnett I believe. I just caught it as I turned on a few minutes before and wasn't particularly listening as the LibDems are the party I know I am absolutely NOT going to vote for (still undecided about who I am...)

I completely wasn't expecting the GRA question! And asked in such a robustly no-bullshit way as well. Brilliant.

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/12/2019 10:33

That interview was brilliant!

THE TIDE HAS TURNED!!!

Uncompromisingwoman · 06/12/2019 10:34

Fascinating to hear Swinson answering all questions (just listened to her on LBC) by referring to these powerless individuals (who have managed to change every aspect of life in their favour) while making no comments about women and vulnerability - rape, sexual assault, harassment and so on). Does she really believe this or does it demonstrate the power of these really scary and threatening TRAs in the LDs?

TeenPlusTwenties · 06/12/2019 10:37

Brilliant to hear Woman's Hour tackling this properly.
The interviewer did an ace job.
I feel an email to R4 coming on to say thank you.

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 06/12/2019 10:38

DH texted me about this - I'm hoping that means he's listened to it and has been swayed! He generally starts off agreeing with me but then defaults to women being mean spirited bigots Sad

TinaBarrow · 06/12/2019 10:40

brilliant interview by Emma B, but it's about bloody time someone from women's hour stood up for women on this issue. For goddess sake.
Jo Swinson is despicable.
Now can we have the same questions to the other idiots please BBC?

AbsintheFriends · 06/12/2019 10:40

The more she is grilled on this, the more blindingly obvious it becomes that it simply hasn't been thought through. It is a fecking DISASTER waiting to happen, and the people pushing it can't even begin to justify it beyond bleating about being kind (while dismissing the distress of vulnerable women.)
