I really have to impress on everyone just how important it is to get out and vote Labour. The Tories have done nothing for anyone other than their rich buddies, and our present PM is a sexist bigot. Please vote Labour to save the NHS. Please.

I’ve already voted, just could go on, going around and around. Sooner this is done the better

WwfLeopard · 01/12/2019 18:31

Couldn’t *

"I'm not a fan of Corbyn but I still think he is a fundamentally decent bloke."

No he isn't. Corbyn is an anti-Semite, a friend and active supporter of of terrorists, dictators,Holocaust deniers and blood libellers. He took 20 grand from Iranian State TV after it was known they had been involved in torture.

There is nothing decent about this. Not remotely. He is not Magic Grandpa. He is an evil racist. And that is before you get to Labour's policy on women.

Support Labour if you will. But be aware that that makes you a racist too.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 01/12/2019 19:17

But be aware that that makes you a racist too.

I don't think it's fair to say this.

theflushedzebra · 01/12/2019 19:45

I think women are turning the tide enough to to counter any self ID shit that Labour might try on.

I don't agree. I wish it weren't so - but once somethings in the Manifesto of the winning Party, it will make it smoothly through the HoC and the HoL. The HoLs do not (except in exceptional circs) vote down something in the Manifesto of a winning Party - because it is deemed to be the will of the people. I.e. voted in on a majority.

With Dawn Butler as a right hand woman of Jeremy Corbyn, and Women & Equalities Minister - it will just go through.

This SINGLE issue is going to prevent me from voting Labour - even though I am a life-long Labour voter.

As it is, I think Boris has it in the bag. Which doesn't fill me with happiness either.

mindproject · 01/12/2019 19:49

I hate the Tories with a passion. I also hate Brexit.

I'm voting Lib Dem.

Freespeecher · 01/12/2019 20:00

Looking forward to asking the Labour canvassers why neither of the city's Jewish female MPs are running again. It'll almost be worth having Momentum put my windows through.

(Labour had a 30k majority here last time so I'm reduced to fleeting zingers to make myself feel better).

EmpressLesbianInChair · 01/12/2019 20:14

I think women are turning the tide enough to to counter any self ID shit that Labour might try on.

Labour are making themselves look ridiculous on this right now. First Laura Pidcock states on the radio that they’re going to protect single sex spaces. Then those well-known misogynists & homophobes, Women & Equalities spokesperson Dawn Butler & LGBT Labour, state that it’s all a trick & they absolutely won’t.

I’m not going to trust Labour on this until there’s a clear, unambiguous statement that isn’t immediately contradicted by their TRA wing.

Voice0fReason · 01/12/2019 21:04

That is a ridiculous thing to say. It's comments like that that make proper discussions impossible.

Freespeecher · 01/12/2019 21:07

Not let up even after the election unfortunately - John McDonnell has said the next Labour leader should be a woman, but it was pointed out in an article I read that this is a nice way of blocking Keir Starmer in favour of, say, Rebecca Long Bailey.

xxyzz · 01/12/2019 21:24

"Support Labour if you will. But be aware that that makes you a racist too."

"Support Labour if you will. But be aware that that makes you a racist too."

I don't want to derail the thread as I'm aware this is FWR and people are posting here primarily with regards to Labour's policy on women.

However, I am absolutely sick of the excusing of anti-Semitism in Labour that goes on all the bloody time - in a way that if it was discrimination against any other minority group it would just never get a free pass in the same way.

If you supported David Duke or Nick Griffin, people would call you a racist. But they have both supported Corbyn (including specifically on the issue of anti-Semitism) and yet apparently people who don't due diligence (hardly as though the topic hasn't been reported) and support Corbyn anyway, you think we shouldn't call them racists?

Why ever not??

Anyway, as I said, this is the wrong place for this discussion but given my safety and my family's safety relies on my reading every bloody thing I can about anti-Semitism and Labour (not fun, I can assure you), I probably know more about the topic than the average MNetter.

Happy to continue the discussion via DMs if you really care.

xxyzz · 01/12/2019 21:26

Sorry, quote fail. Was trying to quote Voice0fReason's (ha ha) reply to me.

And that's it from me on this.

As you were.

NotAssigned · 01/12/2019 23:17

I don't trust labour either but they won't get a majority. They just need to get enough to keep Boris out. Overall women will suffer far more under the Tories than a Labour coalition.

SirVixofVixHall · 01/12/2019 23:21

I am not voting Labour. Momentum are a misogynist shambles, Corbyn is lacking in brains, but not in ego. The party is riddled with anti-semitism. Then there is self -id.
I am not voting for a party that considers women, half the electorate, as the sex that should shove over and shut up.

theflushedzebra · 01/12/2019 23:22

What? Even if we kiss goodbye to women's sex based rights? That a proportion of the electorate probably aren't even aware that they're losing?

theflushedzebra · 01/12/2019 23:22

My post was to notassigned btw.

Ereshkigal · 03/12/2019 22:13

Overall women will suffer far more under the Tories than a Labour coalition.

In terms of self ID, all the parties Labour would build a coalition with are just as gung ho about self ID, or even more so.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 03/12/2019 22:24

Women's rights aren't an ideology, OP. You can get lost telling women how to vote.

LangCleg · 03/12/2019 22:43

I don't agree.

Neither do I.

And the Labour Party needs to be very aware that I owe it nothing. It's had more than twenty years of member subs from me. I've knocked on doors for it at a dozen national and local elections. The Labour Party owes me. And I'm calling in the debt.

I could also blow my own trumpet about the civic and volunteer participation that has been a permanent fixture of my entire adult life including now. I won't, but I will say this: women's rights and child protection are my political priorities and I'm putting my political priorities first for fucking once. So if any of these fuckers, not just Labour, wants my vote? Well, they know how to get it.

Raphaellas · 10/12/2019 09:42

I was talking to my neighbour yesterday - a single mom, works as a dinner lady and has had a really tough life. I asked her if she had thought of becoming the Chancellor of the Exchequer given the new standards set by Labour and Angela Rayner's shadow cabinet role - ie candidates compete through victimhood rather than ability. Running the country is too important to have well meaning illiterates in charge.

SirVixofVixHall · 10/12/2019 10:17

I agree with you LangCleg ( as usual ! 🙂)

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 10/12/2019 10:31

I really have to impress on everyone just how important it is to for Labour to do what it takes to get the votes of the thousands of women out there concerned about children and safeguarding.

The Tories have done nothing for anyone other than their rich buddies, and our present PM is a sexist bigot. Please Labour, do what it takes to get those thousands and thousands of women's votes. Please, do the right thing. Just acknowledge that biological sex is real.

If Labour want my vote they can get out there and state that the sex based rights of women and girls are not up for grabs for men, even those who really, really feel like a girl (even though having never been one, how can they possibly say).

Third spaces, fine.

But no self-ID into sex based spaces - particularly where children are vulnerable.

Stop throwing my daughter's safety away, get out there and explicitly state that children have the right to sex-based spaces, that safeguarding is important. (again, Third spaces fine!)

It's easy, that's all Labour have to do to get my vote and thousands of other women's votes, so if LABOUR really and truly want to undo years of austerity, they need to do what it takes. They need to put aside their ideological purity and do what it takes.

Please, please Labour. Acknowledge scientific reality, if you want our votes this is all you have to do.

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 10/12/2019 10:37

I mean there's 51percent of us, and lots of the other 49 percent (men) who DO give a shit about us and don't want random men in our spaces (or especially their daughter's spaces). Compared to, what, 1% of TRAs.

Do the fucking math Labour. YOU put aside your ideological purity and come and get our votes.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 10/12/2019 10:38

Oh thank god for an election thread telling me who to vote for.

I was beginning to get worried everyone on MN had forgotten.

Hmm
