I really have to impress on everyone just how important it is to get out and vote Labour. The Tories have done nothing for anyone other than their rich buddies, and our present PM is a sexist bigot. Please vote Labour to save the NHS. Please.

OP posts:
koshkat · 30/11/2019 19:12

I am unsure if I will ever vote Labour again let alone this time - so deeply do I feel their betrayal.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 30/11/2019 19:18

Labour have never really cared for their voters, no party has ever cared, ALL will throw you under a bus if they thought it would get them more power.

It's why it pays to be selfish and vote for what matters for you, because people in power care for no one.

nauticant · 30/11/2019 19:19

I won't rule out voting for them again. It's just that every time I'm told it's my duty to vote for them means that when I might gets pushed further away into the future.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3756969-I-hope-you-never-have-children-Labour-and-self-id

This is an interesting read, if OP wants to get some insight into why it is that women are finding it so hard to vote Labour.

Mind you, I don't think OP does want to understand their potential voter base. I think OP mistakenly thinks of themselves as "teacher" and potential voters as naughty reception children, and thinks if they lecture us in a sufficiently hectoring tone, we will fall into line.

Newsflash, honey, that's what's going to lose you the election. Which is a shame because the Tories are a shower of shite, but if you spend several years working damn hard to make yourselves unelectable, that's what happens.

DownstairsMixUp · 30/11/2019 19:34

I will be voting labour.

Sick of seeing the most vulnerable in society suffering for austerity.

Lordamighty · 30/11/2019 19:46

I won’t be voting labour.

Sick of seeing women’s rights suffering for trans ideology.

nauticant · 30/11/2019 19:55

I won't be voting Labour. But I won't be thinking that anyone who does is morally inferior to me.

theflushedzebra · 30/11/2019 20:29

I'm utterly torn on the whole thing. There is nobody I want to vote for - and realistically we're choosing bewteen Corbyn & BJ as the next PM, and as the polls are looking now, it'll be BJ. And I just don't want either. My vote seems pretty ineffectual against that.

RedToothBrush · 01/12/2019 09:07

At last!

An honest candidate...

OMG Red you've managed to find an honest politician Grin

MidnightCircus · 01/12/2019 13:16

red (works for both of you!), I always thought honest politician was an oxymoron but nope, there is one!

howard97A · 01/12/2019 15:54

“The message is clear: Boris Johnson’s Tories consider trans issues to be a vote loser.”

howard97A · 01/12/2019 15:56

This could be their only sensible policy !

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 01/12/2019 15:58

I’m voting Tory as least worst option.

BarbaraStrozzi · 01/12/2019 15:59

Yes, I just read that article.

So - 4% of the population versus the 90% or thereabouts who say they don't think you can literally change sex.

I do wish we could successfully decouple LGB from T.

LGB rights- very important, shouldn't run the risk of progress being reversed.

Protection from harrassment, protection within employment (barring a tiny fraction of jobs where sex matters), protection in access to housing (again, barring a tiny number of situations like homeless shelters/ women's DV shelters, where sex matters) - yes, totally in favour of trans people being supported.

Male bodied people in women's sports, women's prisons, women's shelters - big no, regardless of how they identify. But I accept that there is a need there to ensure safety and would happily get behind a campaign for third spaces.

NotAssigned · 01/12/2019 16:59

It's a two horse race and at the moment the Tories are several lengths in the lead.

I think women are turning the tide enough to to counter any self ID shit that Labour might try on.

I'm not a fan of Corbyn but I still think he is a fundamentally decent bloke. Meanwhile Johnson is a lying cheating womanising self- serving person.

We have to keep the Tories out.

skql · 01/12/2019 17:33

@NotAssigned

i'm pessimistic.

women are turning the tide enough to to counter any self ID shit that Labour might try on.

no...then where's is policy change?
where's media noise?
nothing is happening.

just tory pushed the pause button. that's it.

when self id law passed...they never go way.

and at this point i wonder what's the next stop.

NotAssigned · 01/12/2019 17:37

I know what you mean but there is a lot of noise.
FairPlay WPUK, Joanna Cherry, FairCop. Etc etc

The damage that the Tories can do to women and society is immense.

skql · 01/12/2019 17:52

@NotAssigned

FairPlay WPUK, Joanna Cherry, FairCop. Etc etc

but do they really have power to stop labour and libdem when
they push self id?

no. i don't think so.

and also

now there's no freedom of speech.
pp can't speak out cause too scared inn democratic world.
there's thought police.
kids are being pushed to hormones surgery.
and that ideology is pushed in school on five years old.
girls are being taught sex work is great choking is normal.

it's not just about toilet and sports.

it's really damaging too.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 01/12/2019 18:29

Women are making steps, brave women small steps. If labour or the lib Dems get in it will all be for nothing.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 01/12/2019 18:30

Tory pause button on the cliff they drove us to is slightly better than full steam head off of it.
