Great article in the Mail on Sunday today about the awful impacts on girls of being forced to share loos with boys at school. With quotes from a female GP about the health and psychological impacts of girls not having single-sex loos, Stephanie Davies-Arai from Transgender Trend, and David Davies MP

I'm now picturing Tequila wading through a mountain of discarded sanpro, struggling through long grass or field of corn style.

Where on earth does this person live?

tequila I'm still waiting for you to tell us what the benefit is to women and girls of letting males into our toilets.

And also why you think girls in the UK are deserving of a standard of toilet facilities in schools which Unicef says fails to offer even a basic standard of hygiene and sanitation.

TequilaPilates · 06/10/2019 16:54

You may deflect, you may project but I think it's time you considered that when it comes to piss, used san-pro and shit-ridden loos that you regularly come into contact with, you are the common denominator?

As I said, it must be the people who never notice it, because they obviously consider it normal, who are the perpetrators.

If I was the only person to have encountered it then fair enough but you only have to ask other women to realise that this is a common occurrence.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 06/10/2019 16:56

I'm a bit worried about Tequila, finding public toilets dirty, disgusting places. in my experience they are more often than not perfectly serviceable for the task in hand

you seem to be a very glass half empty type of person Sad

and fuck knows who you're working with too.

TequilaPilates · 06/10/2019 16:57

tequila I'm still waiting for you to tell us what the benefit is to women and girls of letting males into our toilets.

When have I argued for males to be let into our toilets? As I'm not I don't see why I need to put forward any arguments in favour of that happening.

In fact, if you see my posts you'll see that I've said I am against single sex toilets being re designated into mixed sex toilets so I'll wait for you to show where I've said any different.

butteryellow · 06/10/2019 16:58

trying to use a boy's toilet whilst wearing a skirt/dress? It's just a recipe for bullying and abuse.

Then that's what needs to be tackled! Not shoving him in with the girls and hoping they can cope with it (after all, as has been mentioned, girls bully too).

I went to a few schools - the number of times at primary we'd run and hide in the girls to avoid the boys (even though they were freezing cold external blocks). Or at secondary, yes, I was in awe of the 6th formers, and would avoid the toilet if there was a big group of 5th formers in there because I didn't want to draw their attention, but if it had been a mixed group I would have never gone in at all!

TequilaPilates · 06/10/2019 16:59

and fuck knows who you're working with too.

Frankly, some disgusting people who have no manners.

historylover · 06/10/2019 17:01

@TequilaPilates

Are you joking? You've spent the entire time here advocating for the removal of single sex spaces and forcing young girls to share with boys.

OldCrone · 06/10/2019 17:01

Why are you on this thread Tequila? Is it just to tell women how disgusting we all are? If you think that mixed sex toilets in school are bad, why are you arguing with all the people who agree with you?

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 06/10/2019 17:02

Frankly, some disgusting people who have no manners

none of the women I work with exhibit the behaviour you seem to be describing. in any of the jobs I've worked in, or any of the many branches I've visited

which leaves me rather Confused and a little concerned by your description of your work loos Sad

GurlwiththeCurl · 06/10/2019 17:18

I’m over 60 and have travelled quite widely, often using public loos when I have needed to. I think that I can honestly say that, yes, I have found some revolting ones, but these have been very few.

There is no way that I would use a “unisex” or “gender neutral” public toilet. I do share the toilet at home with men, but they are DH and my adult DSs and they are all clean, tidy and they wash their hands!

TequilaPilates · 06/10/2019 17:18

Where have I said that? Please show me.

historylover · 06/10/2019 17:24

@TequilaPilates

I don't really think I need to, that's been the message on all of your posts.

TequilaPilates · 06/10/2019 17:26

historylover

Oh of course.

Or, you can't prove it because you've made it up.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 06/10/2019 17:27

Do you use public toilets?

I work in a public facility, there are no staff toilets so I use public toilets five days a week.

The only times there are problems are when either elderly people or small children have accidents and these are always reported and cleaned up immediately.

I have seen terrible messes in women's toilets in two situations.

1 When I worked as a cleaner in a psychiatric hospital.

2 At motorway services back in the 80s (or London Gateway today which is a shithole for reasons that escape me)

HandsOffMyRights · 06/10/2019 17:28

There's only one individual making it up on this thread.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 06/10/2019 17:29

Tequila, I think your argument on this thread has been there's no need to for single sex toilet provision because girls bully girls, and women make a terrible mess in the toilet sometimes

have I missed anything out?

historylover · 06/10/2019 17:30

@TequilaPilates

Yes of course, it's me. I'm the one making up things on this thread Hmm

It is a bit off how women who don't like other women very much seem to run across women's loos that look like they came right out of Trainspotting or Hostel with quite remarkable frequency.

Uncanny.

BarbaraStrozzi · 06/10/2019 17:34

What we know about men's behaviour in public toilets:

In school settings some boys have and will continue to peer over the top of cubicles/underneath.

Men piss on and round seats.

Some adult men put spy cams into toilets to try to capture images of women's genitals.

Some men get off on menstruation.

Some men wank and leave semen in public toilets.

Single sex toilets do not, of course, stop girls bullying one another. They do, however, mean that girls are not exposed to the above behaviours.

Single sex toilets in schools should be utterly uncontroversial as the sensible way of organising toilet provision. And they need to be single sex, not single gender, given that school children cannot obtain GRCs therefore schools would have to function on "self ID", and as we know, under self-ID there is no way for an external observer to tell the difference between someone who genuinely believes themselves to be trans and someone taking the piss.

TequilaPilates · 06/10/2019 17:39

I think your argument on this thread has been there's no need to for single sex toilet provision because girls bully girls, and women make a terrible mess in the toilet sometimes

No, you're entirely wrong.

My argument is that, in the 3 schools I know of that have introduced unisex toilets (meaning self contained, floor to ceiling cubicles opening onto a central corridor) they have done so in response to students requesting them because the old style toilets were a point where bullying was happening and many students were avoiding them. They weren't done to accommodate trans students.

I'm not saying there's no need for single sex toilets. If anyone can figure out a way to prevent bullying in the single sex toilets so that pupils don't avoid using them then I'd be all for that.

My references to the disgusting nature of ladies toilets was in response to another poster saying that it's men who were on the seat and leave the toilet in a state - which just isn't true. Some men and some women wee on the seat and leave them in a state.

You all refusing to admit that ladies public toilets are ever dirty due to misuse is just ridiculous.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 06/10/2019 17:48

Advanced search can often highlight a particular type of derailing, including repeatedly misrepresenting what other posters have said on a thread.
Just saying.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 06/10/2019 17:48

self contained, floor to ceiling cubicles opening onto a central corridor

but in the article this thread is about Tequila, it's made very clear that isn't the case in many schools with mixed sex toilets. that they are in fact breaking health and safety law.

self contained cubicles with their own hand washing facilities are OK from a safety perspective, but fall down on a couple of points

  1. you can't fit as many in, so they could lead to queues
  2. from a privacy and dignity standpoint , they're very easy targets for people to install spy cams. where single sex toilets provide a level of protection against that

so still not perfect in my view
