I posted this on the This Never Happens thread, but it's so horrible I think it deserves its own thread.

Trans women posts about wandering around naked with an erection in a women's shelter(even providing the address of the shelter). They also appear to have mental health issues. Concerned women tweet the shelter. The shelter responds by asking people not to 'spread harmful mistruths' about trans people.

A women's shelter actually putting vulnerable women in danger. This is how far things have gone in Canada.

And also the having a dick, which you shouldn't if you're in a women's shelter. There's a rather obvious solution to the problem of erections in the women's shelter there...

I am pretty sure that it was the Canadian government being criticised for shitty policy, not homeless people. The fact that some mental illnesses cause anti-social behaviour, I hope we are not now being asked not to notice that can be the case.

Who said that we should blame drugs, not people for bad behaviour? Or that homeless people were bad?

Surely we can critisize a government that is failing so much with regard to homelessness, especially when it relates to a policy where they are patting themselves on the back. And drugs do contribute to and exacerbate anti-social behaviour. (Though it's not clear to me this is what is going on here. I will say however that IME it is common for bi-polar people to try and use cannabis to deal with symptoms, but it usually makes them worse.)

I meant your presumptions were sickening, Detroit. I would never have called you sickening. You do seem to be leaping to a lot of conclusions and drawing inferences that just aren't there.

Scrimshaw, cut Detroit some slack. There's a reason she jumps to the defensive on this one. It's not just academic for her and it's not just something she's watching out of a bus window. It's her life. She's allowed to be a bit more sensitive than the average on this one.

If I was facing down the possibility of a winter outdoors in Detroit because woke morons think it's a brilliant idea to let men into women's shelters I wouldn't be at my most patient either.

Just to say, in case anyone missed it, Detroit is one the women directly affected by this ludicrous policy of allowing unhinged, exhibitionist, possibly predatory males into women's shelters.

She has spoken at length on here about how she is currently homeless, sleeping in her car/camping - because she is survivor of domestic abuse, and will not go into a shelter which cannot guarantee her a penis free space. All her shelters allow penises into female shelters.

Detroit has actual skin in the game, detroit is actually suffering from these policy changes allowing males into female shelters.

It's not even the fact that they think it's a brilliant idea to let men in, that fucks me off the most.

It's the fact that they externalise the problem yet again.

They're telling Detroit that she has to just suck it up, yet again. Suck up male violence and abuse and domination, again. She will not play this game. I don't blame her; she can't win it - because the only way they'll let us win is if we accept their reframing.

When we lose this battle, the war will go on, and eventually we'll set up our own shelters that are for "sex:female; gender identity: resister" only.

Resisters are transphobic by default. Resistance is transphobic.

YES Trotoxicity - WOMEN are told they are the ones with the problem, they are the ones being irrational - just because they're not cofortable with men in their shelters. It's everything wrong with "transwoman are women" in a nutshell. Transwomen are not women. Tyler is obviously not a woman, because no woman is physically able to go around flaunting an erection.

And the shelter are defending Tyler?! It's abuse, layered upon abuse, layered upon abuse, of women.

And it was women who created those shelters in the first place, because the government was doing fuck all for us. And now we're expected not only to hand them over to men but to be grateful for the opportunity to do so. And if we build something new then the men will follow us there too because, and I can't emphasize this enough, transgressing boundaries is baked into AGP, and no concession will ever be enough. Build a shelter on the moon and they'll start demanding a publicly funded rocket shuttle to take them there.

Detroit, I am genuinely sorry for your situation. I have no desire to upset you, and I'm sorry that I did.

It's back to the Overton window again. Who determines whether a thought is rational? Everyone can look at a body and its behaviour in the world, and infer the existence of a mind controlling it. Who determines whether the inferred mind is labelled rational or irrational?

They're not innately, inherently, intrinsically, born-that-way more rational than we are, they're just bigger. And they refuse to admit it so they lie to themselves that they're rational and right and we're emotional and wrong.

The fundamental issue is that their intellects and emotions are totally out of whack. Thus we spiral back around to gendered socialisation, which is reinforced by the dick.

I'm starting to think gendered socialisation actually evolved as a mechanism to dampen sex-based violence just enough to stop the species from going extinct. And when the carrot fails, women get the stick, which is what is clobbering Detroit right now. She's just at the sharp end so everyone else notices.

As a group I can't think of any demographic more emotional than trans people. The level of emotionality and of holding people hostage to their emotions would be considered completely socially unacceptable in any other adults.
