Remember that grey hair is rarely attractive

5. Remember that grey hair is rarely attractive unless you have the correct combination of skin tone and eye colouring! (You suit clothes in blues, lilacs, greys and pinks and have neutral skin tone and grey/blue eyes).

Thoughts? Posting this in FWR as I know AIBU will be full of posters who wish to post that actually they do believe grey hair on women is unattractive.. like pubes, and women leaving the house without a chaperone face full of makeup.

Regardless of a person's personal beliefs on grey hair (or any colour) there is something exceptionally sexist and patronising in advising women to remember they are unattractive. Now, now ladies, lest you forget or start to feel confident in your hair colour, you are probably unattractive.

Also, I've known lots of beautiful black women with grey hair btw but not a single one with blue eyes though.. so not sure if this brand counts them or not. Hmm

Read tft

Oh poor old Dan

Not taking the piss

He was in a legal battle for years with these people. I'm local and old enough to remember his 15 mins in late 80s early 90s.

I have a home hairdresser now but used to go to his salon and my friends.
They make you look nice rather than give you one out the book like h9bbs and places.

I'm not him I promise :D but he's a good guy and the people who nicked his name took his brand I suppose, and now are being arses and getting mn riled... Anyway. His actual products (. Net address) are v nice.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/08/2019 19:11

Apologies to the real mr field, and more castigation of the imposters then.

Fraggling · 10/08/2019 19:30

Absolutely

The real mr field came into the salon one time I was in there

It was about 2005 but I felt transported back to 1986

He has very bouncy hair think george Michael in heyday

Best hairdresser ever though for those in the know

He was doing the organic thing in the 80s and didn't somehow protect name legally

Awful story but decades old what a shocker seeing it on here!

Daniel is. Net people accept no substitutes :D

He should give me commission lol

AnotherAdultHumanFemale · 10/08/2019 19:31

I do agree there is a wealth element to it. I don't have much money and going to the hair dressers is expensive for me so I just go when I can afford it. That's why the 'growing your grey out' trend is pretty good because it is levelling in terms of wealth, although not so levelling in terms of genes. If you have naturally thick, plentiful hair that goes silky silvery white and looks elegant and fabulous naturally then it's going to be easier for you to go grey than someone with fine thinning hair whose grey hair is patchy, wiry and frizzy. That's why it's a bit tedious when people with naturally fabulous hair tut at others who dye theirs, although I've not seen much of this on this board.

Fraggling · 10/08/2019 19:48

Yes 100% wealth element also class /hair type / and of course race

I am v fair it's weighed lightly on me. Hoping to transitition from blonde to grey without much noticing.

Body hair and hair on head etc is extremely political subject.

Loads of great usa blogs and activism around this.

merrymouse · 11/08/2019 08:39

A gentleman of a certain age with a taste for expensive styling and equivalent financial means may not opt for a four weekly salon appointment so that no one knew he was grey.

The big difference is that men are far more likely to lose their hair.

MIdgebabe · 11/08/2019 09:07

MEn are more likely to lose thier hair.but based purely on my observation of grey hair, of those who keep their hair, they are much less likely to dye it. Until recently I was the only greying female in the office with many greying men. ( I got fed up of the greying stage, I dislike badger on anything but badgers. And one guy dyed his )

Although dh has recently been remarking on the increasing number of style and beauty ads aimed at men.

MargueritaBlue · 11/08/2019 11:40

Orn

I didn’t say it did, Marg

Please do not reduce my user name to Marg . For the record Ery I find Marg a very ugly diminutive.

MargueritaBlue · 11/08/2019 11:50

And Orn please don't give me the excuse that my username is too long. I pay (almost) every poster on here the respect of copying and pasting their full username unless it is a name which contains words or names which are standalone words.

Cwenthryth · 11/08/2019 12:02

Have people complained to the website - it looks like the quote in the OP has been deleted? It only goes up to number 4 now?

Fraggling · 11/08/2019 12:39

You could really fuck them off by pointing friends and family to actual Daniel field, which is the .net address and salon in new barnet. His real products are v good. There used to be a statement on his blog about all this...

whatwouldbigfatfannydo · 11/08/2019 12:48

25 here and not dyed my hair in years! Main reason is, I want it to be my own colour so the grey comes in more naturally. Can't wait to go grey!
Also mixed race, with long curly hair, green eyes and olive skin. If there's anything inccorect about that, please point it out to me so I can give you a suitable response! Grin

DanielFieldDirect · 11/08/2019 15:02

Hello Everyone,

I’m Nick from Daniel Field Direct.

First of all, I’d like to apologise on behalf of the whole team for any offence that has been caused by the wording used on our website. The OP was right to draw attention to it, and we have just removed the line from the webpage it was on. Next week we will start work on an updated version of the PDF instruction guide we use, and as soon as it is available, will replace the current PDF guide with a more up to date version.

As a small business, there are often not enough hours in the day to make all the improvements we would like. However, we’re embarrassed this was written, that we didn’t pick up on the wording used when it was originally proofed many years ago, and even more so that it was still on our website until today.

We don’t think anyone should feel compelled to colour their hair, but we’d like to think that for those who wish to we’re able to provide an option that is free from so many of the unpleasant chemicals in most hair dyes.

Thank you everyone – and we’re sorry we ever published this copy.
Nick

P.S. For the avoidance of doubt, we’d like to clarify that we are the main distributor for Daniel’s products. If in doubt, you can check this out at Companies House, where you will see Daniel listed as a major shareholder of Daniel Field Direct.

Fraggling · 11/08/2019 16:13

I'd stick to Daniel field. Net to be on the safe side tbh.

Did you come to an agreement with daniel in the end then nick? My knowledge is 20 years out of date but I know he was very upset and angry. If that was all resolved its great. I note his Facebook page does not link to your website nor his main. net business website. Do you have a link to anything from him when you made up with him? It was a bitter dispute at the time, of course things can change.

He's a local business so I'd want to be sure you were trading with his full support now, before considering purchasing from you.

Ornery · 11/08/2019 16:50

All proprietorship matters aside, thanks Nick.

Bubbletrouble43 · 11/08/2019 20:32

Anyway my mum has dark Olive skin and brown eyes and cropped white hair and she looks fucking amazing so it's rubbish any way. I know that's not the point. Maybe we need to start pointing out to men that balding, middle aged spread and erectile dysfunction ain't all that desirable either.

Fraggling · 11/08/2019 22:33

Lol bubble too true

I look at the men at work and the women. The women look way better because we are taught that we need to 'make an effort' from a young age. So by the time we get to 40 we, I mean on average, are looking pretty good.

This is the age when men's natural looks start to wane and, never having been given the impression that their looks are important or relevant past trying to pull down the cat & hamster on a Fri night, they have no idea what to do. And also, they feel that they should be fine just as they are.

And then you get this weird thing 40-50 where the men mostly suddenly look terrible and the women just don't.

It's really interesting.

Of course those same men, if single, would deem the way out of their league female contemporaries as totally past it 🙄

Fraggling · 11/08/2019 22:35

I for one would be happier if society wasn't sexist in terms of judging women on how they look and men on what they do and say

But we are nowhere near that

And the results in middle age are v interesting

KateUrrer · 12/08/2019 10:03

Yes olive skin, dark eyes, grey hair can look wonderful. So it is an obvious crock.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 12/08/2019 10:13

Maybe we need to start pointing out to men that balding, middle aged spread and erectile dysfunction ain't all that desirable either.

Hmmm, I'm mostly in agreement but actually find bald men attractive.

At least bald men who embrace their baldness. Comb-overs and weaves look stupid.

dancingcamper · 12/08/2019 15:16

That's a decent apology. Definitely how to do PR.

woodhill · 12/08/2019 16:23

Sir Elton, Jason Donovan and James Nesbit don't embrace their thinning hair.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 12/08/2019 16:50

That's a decent apology. Definitely how to do PR.

Yes, much as I am irritated that anyone ever thought it appropriate to write such a statement if we want things to change we do have to allow companies to apologise and move on, so thank you, Nick.

Fraggling · 12/08/2019 19:43

Well,

Apart from the fact they stole someone's name and brand about 30 years ago...

Not seeing anything to suggest it was resolved.

Know I seem to be banging on but some gray hair chat is least of probs with this company.
Not had anything to show they made up.
