All lesbians? Or just the ones without penises?

HermioneWeasley · 04/08/2019 16:52

It’s absolutely frightening

And what did West Yorkshire Police do to defend these women, at Pride, asserting their right to be exclusive same sex attracted and were being subjected to hate speech based on their sexuality?

Nothing.

Hoppinggreen · 04/08/2019 16:54

Not shocking at all, bloody awful but not shocking unfortunately

VickyEadie · 04/08/2019 17:01

Unfortunately, too many women (including lesbians carrying those 'L with the T' banners) are encouraging this. I find it astonishing that women who describe themselves as lesbians (it's entirely possible, of course, that they're not, given the trend for 'identifying' into LGBT+blahblahblah these days) are actively supporting the oppression of lesbians via the 'lesbians with penises' nonsense.

Earlywalker · 04/08/2019 17:03

Tbh I do see pride as a strange place to exclaim that trans woman aren’t woman, trans lesbians aren’t lesbians etc as pride is a place for LGBT people to be proud of who they are... to protest against 1/4 of LGBT at pride seems a bit odd.

I understand these people protesting (presumably lesbians and not straight woman?) want to make a point that they don’t have to date men as they are attracted to woman but surely a clearer message is ‘love who you want to love’ or similar which is actually what pride is about, being free to be and love who you want!

The issue with the ‘cotton ceiling’ etc is not an issue with trans people, it is an issue with people presuming or attempting to force people to be in relationships with those they may not want too.

The protests by GC people at pride do just seem a bit counter productive and like they set out to cause conflict imo.

I thought June was LGBT Pride month. Now it's August.

ArranUpsideDown · 04/08/2019 17:05

That was my initial response but I know it's wrong.

It's understandable but it is shocking that this response to such behaviour is the new normal. That's unacceptable.

What is the L in LGBT then? If not about Lesbians?

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 04/08/2019 17:10

Do trans people really make up a quarter of LGBT people? I doubt that massively.

but surely a clearer message is ‘love who you want to love’ or similar

You mean a nicer message. Because that certainly isn’t clearer. It’s very vague and doesn’t portray the message at all. The message being that lesbians will not kowtow to men who want to fuck them.

Fieldofgreycorn · 04/08/2019 17:14

pride is a place for LGBT people to be

Ah but Early some see it for LGB and not the T!

MrsGrindah · 04/08/2019 17:17

Doesn’t surprise me at all and the night is young. I’m hiding away here because Pride has got increasingly threatening in Leeds usually due to alcohol. I was threatened last year ad I vowed never to be around again.

Except that it’s only trans

ExhaustedGrinch · 04/08/2019 17:26

It's a modern day witch hunt, absolutely fucking shameful and so few defending actual lesbians because they're all busy dick pandering to faux lesbians.

OhtheHillsareAlive · 04/08/2019 17:26

Try again

The issue with the ‘cotton ceiling’ etc is not an issue with trans people

Except that it’s transwomen who promote the “problem “ of the cotton ceiling, and tell lesbians that their “genital preference” is transphobic.

MrsSnippyPants · 04/08/2019 17:27

We know the police have been captured but this is ridiculous

Soeur Rebelle is great!

How have we got to the point of lesbians getting abuse on a Pride march because they say they are sexually attracted to female bodies? It's utter insanity. I was describing it to a friend the other day and he was incredulous.

Just dropping in this from Hannah Barham-Brown who spoke at WEP last year and recently stood for them in a Leeds election. She is excited and proud about her placard:

My feminism with be intersectional or it will be bullshit

I can't quite get over that someone has seen this and can think it is a reasonable response to say "Well, it's not very nice for those lesbians to be so open about who they are oriented to and who they aren't. They really should say something like 'love who you want to love'"

At Pride.
