"Transwomen have periods"

A woke bloke I know posted this on FB.
Do I call it out or should I avoid wasting my energy?
I'm so bloody angry because it's based on a false understanding of how the menstrual cycle works but some of his female friends are so out of touch with their own biology they are, in addition to calling themselves cis, saying "wow, I didn't know that ".
However not sure I can face another pile on.

I think you should try to call it out, but in a way that looks sensitive.

"That's not true and kind of dangerous to pass around. If a TW has stomach cramps, they should get to a doctor. Obviously we shouldn't point out to someone that they don't get periods, but we shouldn't let their identity mask potentially serious medical problems."

EachDubh · 25/07/2019 19:18

Hmm, what wil these fetishists do when more people use cups and reusble pads rendering sanitary bins redundant and empty. Who will they ask to share experiences with.
For many periods are shit, not some silly fun thing that they can appropriate for their own amusement.

littlbrowndog · 25/07/2019 19:23

Woke bro telling women about periods. Always good to see the stupid

Mishtry · 25/07/2019 19:23

If his penis is bleeding he should really go to a&e

BatShite · 25/07/2019 19:28

Utter utter bollocks. Always seems to be men, making this point about how men can have periods too and sometimes, men are affected even more than women are! How shocking.

BelleSausage · 25/07/2019 19:34

I’m a bit pissed off that TW are trying to colonise through performance the parts of the female experience that have a monumentally negative effect on women’s lives. It very much reminds me of friends I had in the 90s from very posh families who chose to live in grotty bedsits, talked with a mancs accent and went on the dole because it was cool.

‘Cause the chip stains and grease will come out in the bath’.

It’s borrowed oppression. The sort that can be taken off if not needed.

StressyDressyHeels · 25/07/2019 19:38

If they’re taking a steady amount of hormone day to day how the fuck do their hormones fluctuate to make a period?

Is he on crack?

Wtf.

OnlineAlienator · 25/07/2019 19:38

That original quote makes me feel like i just got periods mansplained to me Grin so now men can have periods, we all need to know it can affect all smooth muscle, cause back pain etc.

When just silly old women had periods no one gave a shit which muscles were affected Hmm maybe a side effect of all this will be finally getting that period holiday from work every month? Grin

Somerville · 25/07/2019 19:42

It’s exhausting, but if we don’t correct the lies, who will?

AnotherLass · 25/07/2019 19:56

It isn't new. This is from PAULY et al, Male Psychosexual Inversion: Transsexualism, A Review of 100 Cases, published in 1965

(I know of this paper because Hacsi Horvath put it on twitter)

"As time goes on, there is increasing encapsulation, and the transsexual often becomes convinced that he is really a woman. Monthly cramps and rectal bleeding are reported and he interprets this as menstruation.6,23,74,77,90"

Five references given for that

FamilyOfAliens · 25/07/2019 20:13

I’m picturing a team of doctors peering closely at a newborn, discussing it among themselves, then proclaiming a random sex to the child.

It always reminds me of the opening scenes in the Dreamworks film “Antz”, where each ant larva is arbitrarily designated “solider” or “worker”. No reason why, just the luck of the draw.

How anyone could imagine this is what happens with new-born human babies is a mystery.

Banananas · 25/07/2019 20:16

Hmm, what wil these fetishists do when more people use cups and reusble pads rendering sanitary bins redundant and empty. Who will they ask to share experiences with.

Sorry, I've understood the bits about putting tampons up rectums and using ketchup, but what is this all about? Please explain so I don't have to Google why they're rooting through sanitary bins.

OrchidInTheSun · 25/07/2019 20:23

Banananas - they take used tampons and sanitary towels and put them in their underwear.

Sorry I know it's revolting but you asked

failingatlife · 25/07/2019 20:27

For usedx items I'm afraid 🤢😱 banananas

Erythronium · 25/07/2019 20:27

Men are so weird. Both the ones who think they're women and their supporters.

Juells · 25/07/2019 20:51

How can you have a period if you don't have a uterus? Have woke men and women gone fucking doolally? 😱 Although I'm not surprised they'd believe this, you need to be out of touch with reality to swallow the rest of the bullshit.

firstimemamma · 25/07/2019 20:55

I've heard it all now!

AngryFeminist · 25/07/2019 20:56

'Hi friend, gosh thanks for educating - those of us with such cis privileges as anaemia, endometriosis, menopause and constant dismissal by medical professionals on grounds of our crippling pain being 'just part of being a woman' really do need to make our language more inclusive of our trans sisters. We need to do better. So awesome that male allies like you are speaking out. #Transperiodsareperiods

Tl:dr - FOTTFSOFTFOSM

HermioneWeasley · 25/07/2019 20:59

It’s fucking deluded and so offensive. Only women and girls have periods, and the consequences for many are really serious - missing out on education or being forced to leave altogether, being sold as child brides after menarche, period poverty, dying in menstrual huts. So fucking disrespectful

Goosefoot · 25/07/2019 21:04

"As time goes on, there is increasing encapsulation, and the transsexual often becomes convinced that he is really a woman. Monthly cramps and rectal bleeding are reported and he interprets this as menstruation.6,23,74,77,90"

Now that is actually quite interesting and I can believe it.

buttertoasty · 25/07/2019 21:09

Wow I just typed trans women ketchup into google and that is an image I can never unsee.

Imagine it being a priority for you to have a fake period using tomato sauce.

Erythronium · 25/07/2019 21:10

So basically periods have been redefined from the shedding of the uterine lining, to something that happens to men when they take fake hormones.

Everything female is being rewritten so men can have it.

StrangeLookingParasite · 25/07/2019 21:11

For the record, men taking oestrogen are not taking "hormone replacement therapy". They are taking what is known as CSH: Cross-Sex Hormone; that is, a synthetic hormone that is the opposite from that which their body naturally supplies.

I think this needs to be emphasised more often. In the same way that pronouns are R--l, calling CSH HRT normalises the idea that TWAW, which is fundamentally untrue.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 25/07/2019 21:14

MashedSpud
Popping tampons soaked in ketchup up ones bottom is not the definition of a period

Please tell me that this isn’t really a thing?

A man can be cut and stitched and drugged and dressed and named as a woman - he can be accepted as identifying as a woman - but he will never, ever, be a woman.
I am dreading the first womb implant and birthing through his/her arse - wait until he shits that grapefruit!

It’s actually really pissing me off now - I don’t want anyone to be sad or bullied but men have got enough - now they want our periods too?
So much for female competitive sport - we’re fucked.

As for the guy taking poor beauticians to court - I wish I could wax his fucking scrotum - he wouldn’t ask again.

sackrifice · 25/07/2019 21:16

A simple 'lol you twat' should suffice.
