"Transwomen have periods"

FairfaxAikman · 25/07/2019 18:12

A woke bloke I know posted this on FB.
Do I call it out or should I avoid wasting my energy?
I'm so bloody angry because it's based on a false understanding of how the menstrual cycle works but some of his female friends are so out of touch with their own biology they are, in addition to calling themselves cis, saying "wow, I didn't know that ".
However not sure I can face another pile on.

Can I ask what they do about menopause? Presumably if they think they have a menstrual cycle, which is a normal part of life for a healthy adult female, then they must also have a menopause?

Menopause? Menopause? Menopause is for awful bitter dried up old cis women. Menopause does not exist in the land of stunning and brave.

Pffft, the very suggestion...

TruthOnTrial · 26/07/2019 08:20

I thought it was prostaglandins that caused that horrible congested/bloated feeling and often pain that can include legs etc.

It would be interesting to hear their description of their 'period pain' no it wouldnt

Next they'll be taking the seats on trains and buses when they are 'heavy with child' will it be illegal to not move for that?

I remember me and my cousins stuffing pilows up our tops as young girls pretending to be pregnant, but it was very likely we would experience that as adult human females. To do it as a adult human male, is possibly indicative of something worrying, isnt it, certainly bleeding from your rectum is

As women, we'd all be off to the gp with rectal bleeding as its abnormal and needs investigation.

I've only ever noticed bins that have one-way lids, but then using cups and washables i perhaps missed that used items could be removed Confused
It must be extremely hard getting used sanpro out of a one-way bin gross This is just too far!

Yes, i get awful eye cramping on my period not

OP this person needs to have a chat with someone with medical knowledge to make things clear for them as they sound misinformed at best, but they could be seriously deluded, and in need of help reality check

Erythronium · 26/07/2019 08:23

They have to claim that periods are merely a hormonal episode rather than the physical shedding of the uterine lining because fake hormones are literally the only female thing they can add to their bodies.

FairfaxAikman · 26/07/2019 08:23

Fairly sure prostaglandin is contractions as that's what was used to induce my labour with DS.

My brain hurts

overnightangel · 26/07/2019 08:26

Where will the madness actually stop

TruthOnTrial · 26/07/2019 08:30

But the upside, there will be money put into research to learn all those womens mysteries that we have had to live in ignorance of for years, oh no, thats reality again that won't happen then

buttertoasty · 26/07/2019 08:42

How do they think the pill works then? That it's actually the consistent level of hormones that makes your body believe it's pregnant, stops menstruation and alleviates the symptoms associated with it?

BelleSausage · 26/07/2019 08:49

@buttertoasty

Do you actually expect them to know anything about female bodies?

Honestly, the level of gaslighting is off the chart. ‘I suffer too because I get cramps. Poor me (how exciting)’. It makes a mockery of the two days I have just spent in sweaty agony. If I could identify out of having a period during a heat wave I bloody would!

leckford · 26/07/2019 08:50

The new ‘right wing’ government need to stamp on all this crap hard. No pretend ‘women’ with dicks

How did anyone listen to all this crap?

OrchidInTheSun · 26/07/2019 08:53

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 fabulous reply fairfax

TruthOnTrial · 26/07/2019 08:54

Yes, i wondered about the sweating too Belle. Is that also 'suffered' and talked about, as i dont hear that, nor the nausea.

There are those with their feet firmly on the ground who know the reality, and those who just fantasize, but fantasizing about periods feels quite insulting to women.

Flowers for the sweaty agony in this heat Sad

ThatCurlyGirl · 26/07/2019 09:27

@FairfaxAikman

Thank you for being brave enough to tackle this in a public forum by responding to them.

I think your response was polite yet firm with nil aggression at all so if you are accused of anything other than someone perfectly within their right to question something scientifically proven I will edge that little closer to giving up.

Challenging someone's statements (especially when they are scientifically inaccurate) is not abuse, it is a dialogue.

Thank you for keeping people like me going and not hiding behind this fog of ridiculousness.

LivingInLaputa · 26/07/2019 09:27

Amazing reply, well done.

This guy has female friends going "wow, I don't know a hormone caused cramping". It's sad that these people are so out of touch with their bodies.

Yes, it’s completely shocking :(

FairfaxAikman · 26/07/2019 09:36

@ThatCurlyGirl thank you.

My initial response (not posted) was "oh do fuck off" but I believe facts are central to dismantling this shit - not so much for the folk that are utterly immersed in the fantasy, but for the likes of the other women replying, whose belief in TRA ideology is based in ignorance.
You start swearing, you lose the argument.
I've challenged stuff from this bloke before and been called a "terfy piece of shit" by one of his female friends - no attempt at proper debate, which is depressing.

I can't stop going back and reading that original Facebook post.

So much utter horseshit delivered in such an authorative mansplainy tone - it's just unbelievable!

And the bit about the oestrogen 'and you haven't had a baby this month so let's get on that' - like..... what the fuck are you on about???

Eaudear · 26/07/2019 09:38

Yes Fairfax your reply was perfect in its delivery - totally factual and without emotion. Well done and thank you for doing that!

ALittleBitofVitriol · 26/07/2019 09:40

Re menopause, see, these middle aged blokes are actually just going through their real puberty now! They're really just like sweet and sassy teenage girls dontchaknow! So, no icky menopause for these super, better-than-thou-women, just perpetual idealised teenage perfection.

(No, they don't care about the actual teenage girl experience, they want - nay deserve - the experience they've seen on porn tv and obsessed over.

OrchidInTheSun · 26/07/2019 09:41

A terfy piece of shit for understanding biology 🙄

Someone asked why this is a belief. One of the TRAs I know literally believes his body developed wrongly so that his body responds in a special and different way to a man taking female hormones.

FormerMediocreMale · 26/07/2019 09:41

Could you not write something along the lines of

For those not familiar with the acronym AMAB stands for " A Misogynist Arguing Bollocks"

WhereYouLeftIt · 26/07/2019 09:43

Fml!! Can’t cope with anymore of this shite

FormerMediocreMale · 26/07/2019 09:48

Just read your reply - well done that's fantastic!

FairfaxAikman · 26/07/2019 09:50

I've also been called all sorts for asking is a transwoman has concerns about the long-term effects of female hormones on a male body given that we are only learning now about the like between hormones and diseases like dementia and osteoporosis in women.
Apparently concern over the medical ethics of the process is transphobic.
