"Transwomen have periods"

A woke bloke I know posted this on FB.
Do I call it out or should I avoid wasting my energy?
I'm so bloody angry because it's based on a false understanding of how the menstrual cycle works but some of his female friends are so out of touch with their own biology they are, in addition to calling themselves cis, saying "wow, I didn't know that ".
However not sure I can face another pile on.

Did I just dream it..
An MP or something has just come out as this...
Female...self gendering as a male...who is self gendering as a female.

Doyoumind · 28/07/2019 12:56

mummy it's a councillor who appears to have come out as non binary.

TammySwansonTwo · 28/07/2019 13:08

Just FYI, this is not correct:

The hormones taken by trans people are the same as those taken by men undergoing treatment for certain cancers, I’ve yet to see any of them claiming to have periods.

The type of drug used to treat prostate cancer / some breast cancers and also used in trans people are GnrH analogs (zoladex, Lupron etc) aka “puberty blockers”. They prevent the production of sex hormones essentially. I was on them for endometriosis.

I am appalled that someone with endo would respond that way. My pelvic pain and periods have wrecked my fucking life. Also, leg pain related to your cycle is related to your ovaries, which lie on top of nerves that run down your legs.

paffuto · 28/07/2019 13:19

Why is fetishism taking over reality? And where will it end? Faux pregnancies? Faux babies?

leckford · 28/07/2019 13:21

The conservative would get a lot of votes by stopping the pandering to this lunacy

Deathgrip · 28/07/2019 13:42

I wouldn’t vote for the tories no matter their stance on gender. They have much greater ways of throwing women (and disabled people, and men actually) under the bus.

FairfaxAikman · 28/07/2019 14:08

Tommy my FIL was treated for prostate cancer using "female hormones".

Why is fetishism taking over reality? And where will it end? Faux pregnancies?

There used to be a trans woman who lived near me who had a fake pregnant belly.
This was about 25 years ago though.

Haworthia · 30/07/2019 20:18

I just had to bump the thread to add this Grin

Well actually, all humans have a hormonal cycle...

TheElementsSong · 31/07/2019 18:34

I like your style OP! How about adding a useful visual aid, such as a diagram showing the changes in levels of multiple hormones that regulate the female menstrual cycle? And then ask how somebody on a steady dose of one hormone experiences a cycle? WTF do people think "a cycle" means?

(FFS I learnt this stuff in school Biology lessons, why is this so hard for supposed grown adults to grasp?).

You must read this thread, it is batshit. Lots of "periods are about feeling emotional and craving chocolate", women being called "terfs" for explaining what menstruation is, and a TW bragging about how their period is so strong, it brought their wife's out of dormancy and intensified a friend's.

I don't know whether to laugh or scream

Back in the day, we though Gloria Steinham’s excellent essay was a sarcastic joke. 40 years on all that’s left to us are 🙄🙄🙄

“So what would happen if suddenly, magically, men could menstruate and women could not?

Clearly, menstruation would become an enviable, worthy, masculine event:

Men would brag about how long and how much.”

“The truth is that, if men could menstruate, the power justifications would go on and on.”

“Lesbians would be said to fear blood and therefore life itself, though all they needed was a good menstruating man.”

Any more reaction to your posts, @FairfaxAikman ?

BertrandRussell · 15/08/2019 07:39

And all the rubbish about “syncing” being brought out again. I thought that one had been thoroughly debunked.

SunsetBeetch · 15/08/2019 07:51

Oh wow, so prescient, Dance

2BthatUnnoticed · 15/08/2019 12:11

That thread is just embarrassing.

A period occurs when your uterus sheds its lining. No uterus = no period.

People need to stop fetishising periods, of all things. It’s creepy and gross.

Trohmaniac · 15/08/2019 14:30

There's a great post in that thread where the OP actually says 'no, I don't bleed but I have all the other stuff'.

So they admit they don't have a period.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 15/08/2019 16:02

Mags pointed out, helpfully i thought, that KF has a thread on them. Here's another couple of classic tweets.

So women get periods and trans women get the shits?

PancakeAndKeith · 15/08/2019 16:17

A baseball bat to the teeth.
Some typical male violence there.

Soubriquet · 15/08/2019 16:27

See this is why they want to have periods anyway

Looks like that account is now protected so I can't see the thread.

This answer (as per your screenshot) is still there though:
I managed to bring my wife's period out of dormancy with the strength of mine. I even intensified a house guest's period while she was staying with us

I'm roaring 😂😂😂.

Glad they appear to be on a different continent to me. I would hate to be inadvertently hit with the strength of their period ray.
Thoughts and prayers to the women of Washington DC who even now are unknowingly walking past this person on the street and suddenly starting their period a week early. 😔

Haworthia · 15/08/2019 17:42

I came straight here to check this thread after seeing that tweet. Amazing. What a curiously male way to view a “period”. It’s almost like they’re conflating it with virility Grin

My period is totally AWOL and I’m certainly not pregnant. I think I need to seek this person out. They could provide a valuable service.
