This short film with Mhairi reading out (mostly respectful) comments from women is really sad. I have always admired her but like many politicians she is unable to comprehend the issues women are raising. She says there is no evidence or legitimacy in our concerns. Oh well.

When physical things go wrong with your body it will have a detrimental impact on your mental health. To state that is not bigotry.

DramaRamaLlama · 05/07/2019 13:05

Yes let's see the me moving up for tens men. Then we can talk.

DramaRamaLlama · 05/07/2019 13:06

The men

Tanith · 05/07/2019 13:32

Ironic that the women she sneers at are the ones who fought for women and gay rights. Without them, she wouldn’t be in her position at all!

It always irritates me to see these young kids pontificating about the terrible 80s and homophobia when they have no memory and little knowledge of it.

sakura184 · 05/07/2019 14:14

I'm another one who thinks this is such a shame. I really liked her

MoleSmokes · 05/07/2019 18:10

Bit of a side-track picking up comments by MrsJamin and OldCrone . . . trans ideology and activism has a strong strand of "Queer Agenda" at heart, revealed by the fact that they DO want to "depathologise" transgenderism and are now lobbying to have "childhood gender dysphoria" removed from WHO ICD.

The long term aim of this strand of trans ideology has always been that it is only "feelings" that matter and that no medical intervention is needed.

This is why they hate transsexuals, call them TruScum and want to "erase" them, first by conflating transsexuals with transgender and then announcing that the term "transsexual" is obsolete. The want transsexuals obsolete too.

Medics in Europe have had lectures about trans surgery stormed by trans protestors objecting to the promotion of surgical intervention to validate Self-ID

"Changing priorities

"Although transgender issues are becoming more mainstream, the topic remains politically charged. The European groups sometimes encounter transgender activists who oppose any medical intervention — T’Sjoen says he has had talks disrupted by people arguing that transgender people should not give in to social pressure. Although that could be true for some people, he says, for others, “even if they were living somewhere on a desert island, they would still want to change their body”.

"The researchers must tread carefully to avoid making things more difficult for a group that is already stigmatized. This requires consultation with transgender people on their priorities, T’Sjoen says, and putting these ahead of questions that are simply scientifically interesting."

www.nature.com/articles/d41586-019-01237-z

However, I cannot for the life of me square the circle of their arguments that:

  • "gender dysphoria does not exist and the only thing that is wrong is transphobia"
  • "depathologisation means free access, no questions asked, informed consent to trans-specific health care".

It "seems" to mean, "give me free hormones now but leave out the surgery" but that is not explicit in this Key Note speech at EPATH 2019:

epath.eu/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Dinah-Bons.pdf

Is there any other circumstance in which "free specialist health care" is authorised to be provided by the state or covered by Health Insurance in the absence of any relevant medical diagnosis??? I have never seen a demand along the lines of, "just like X" so I am guessing that they do not have any comparable situations to bolster this case.

I started a Thread about this a while ago which might be a better place to pick this up if you want to - I don't want to derail the discussion about Mhairi Black.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3574976-Transactivists-deny-Gender-Dysphoria-exists-The-aim-is-to-STOP-kids-having-access-to-hormones-and-surgery

ps. How long before Black comes out as non-binary to try to get herself and the SNP off the hook for her appalling behaviour? Are we talking hours, days, weeks??? I'd put money on it being sooner rather than later.

placemats · 05/07/2019 19:43

How long before Black joins the Scottish Conservative Party?

Tootsweets23 · 06/07/2019 11:56

I think Mhairi's arguments are similar to celebrities in culty religions who respond with "well I've never seen anything dodgy" in response to accusations of abusive or exploitative behaviour. Of course a predator or AGP male using a trans identity to access lesbians or women isn't going to target her, she's Mhairi Black MP. However that doesn't mean ordinary people have the same experience as her, same as ordinary people in these religions don't have the same experience as celeb members. That Mhairi isn't aware of this is surprising to say the least.

breakfastpizza · 07/07/2019 14:57

She's an embarrassment. Dismissing the concerns of at-risk and vulnerable women and then calling them cunts? Unacceptable behaviour from anyone, let alone a political figure.

Has anyone posted a link to complain? I found this one: www.snp.org/contact/

Basdan · 07/07/2019 21:13

I have complained to [email protected] and copied in [email protected] following a pm from another poster

LassOfFyvie · 07/07/2019 21:36

I've complained to Murrell.

LassOfFyvie · 07/07/2019 21:44

My complaint made no reference to trans issues or women's rights

I focused on the hypocrisy of Black complaining about this word being used to her but then having so little respect for other women that she uses it against them. And the utter lack of respect for a fellow MP.

Basdan · 08/07/2019 00:54

I hope it helps @LassOfFyvie, it absolutely horrifies me that she is currently my representative

LassOfFyvie · 08/07/2019 01:39

I suspect my email will go into the "it's her again. She's never going to vote for us anyway - send the usual platitudes" pile !

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 08/07/2019 09:00

I have also complained via the contact link in breakfastpizza's post.

I have used that form of contact before on this, and other issues, and always had a prompt response (ie within a few days).

As the form asks for a postcode and my email address includes my name I have pointed out that not just I but my entire household are SNP voters, which they will know from their records if they care to check. My SNP MP has a slender majority (not sure about my constituency MSP offhand, he's probably safer due to personal popularity regardless of party). Our four votes ought to matter to them.

morningtoncrescent62 · 08/07/2019 09:25

Thanks, breakfastpizza, I've now posted my complaint via that form. I quoted Shirley-Anne Somerville saying that people with genuine concerns about women's rights shouldn't be subject to knee-jerk accusations of transphobia and pointed out that was exactly what MB had done.

I'm not an SNP voter and I'm in a constituency with a substantial SNP majority, but if they're going for IndyRef 2 any time soon, every vote will matter.

SunsetBeetch · 01/09/2019 10:57

She's at it again, calling people "hysterical" and "anti trans".

Feck off Mhairi, you snake.

NotBadConsidering · 01/09/2019 11:05

Some critics, including other prominent SNP politicians, say the proposals could allow predatory men to enter women-only spaces such as toilets and changing rooms to commit assaults.

HAS allowed. Has. Has Mhairi Black taken up my suggestion to go and tell the two little girls assaulted by Katie Dolatowski that there is no risk?

Thought not.

2BthatUnnoticed · 01/09/2019 11:07

I’ve been “challenged” too, i.e. a polite “er.. this is the Ladies?” I had very short hair and “male” clothes, I was not offended.

Who cares!? WHY is this being used as a stick to beat women into giving up single sex spaces?

2BthatUnnoticed · 01/09/2019 11:10

(By the way my question was to Mhairi Black and others who push this false equivalence - not to the OP)!

Pota2 · 01/09/2019 11:46

Why would she be challenged? She looks nothing like a man? Anyway, to most women, misgendering is not an issue. I wouldn’t give a shit if someone thought I was a man or called me ‘he’. I would think they were blind as I am obviously female but it wouldn’t be something that would deeply upset me. Misgendering only becomes a big deal if you are insecure about your gender identity and are upset that others cannot see what you think you can see.
I heard some TRA say that ‘trans women and cis women have the same basic interest that we want to be recognised as women’. I thought nah mate, it’s really not the same thing. You want others to think that you are women and we want others to stop treating us like shit because we ARE women. Those are not the same thing. If someone thought I was a man, I would get treated better.

zebrasdontwearbras · 01/09/2019 12:17

I find it really hard to believe that Mhairi Black has been challenged "several times" - she doesn't look like man at all. Unless you think any woman wearing trousers looks like a man. Perhaps she timeslipped back into Victorian times.

JoyceJeffries · 01/09/2019 12:32

She’s clearly made it up to bolster her extremely weak argument.

MockersthefeMANist · 01/09/2019 12:39

A Man Writes:

...so is it like the N word among black people? Can a woman (in this case Hannah Bardell) accuse other women of being 'hysterical' when they disagree with her?

zebrasdontwearbras · 01/09/2019 12:45

Well I'm just loving these modern times where it's fine to call women cunts, but a crime to call a male a man.
