This short film with Mhairi reading out (mostly respectful) comments from women is really sad. I have always admired her but like many politicians she is unable to comprehend the issues women are raising. She says there is no evidence or legitimacy in our concerns. Oh well.

I’m a woman. I have female genetalia. Why is a transperson more danger to you than me?

I don’t find your self identification as a threat reassuring.

fascinated · 04/07/2019 21:45

chickenwing, I will never be equal to a man when I lack a penis to rape with, I lack the testosterone to give me the strength to overpower my victim, and I lack the sperm to impregnate my female victim during such rape.

That isn’t a particularly pleasant thing to type but it is true.

HTH.

(usual disclaimer: namalt)

littlbrowndog · 04/07/2019 21:45

Anyway where’s the wrong genitals. Who has them ?

Aspley · 04/07/2019 21:46

@chickenwing
Or are you another who would call me a bigot for being a homosexual female?
I'm afraid there is a rather long queue of homophobes you will have to join.
That is, if you can find me. I am back in the closet precisely because of the issue and the hate I receive from LGBT.

dementedma · 04/07/2019 21:52

Dreadful video by a dreadful woman. Dismisses genuine concerns, calls people cunts and then smirks at how funny she thinks she is. Shes an absolute arse.

fascinated · 04/07/2019 21:58

Back to Mhairi. Is she on drugs? Honestly. It’s like playground insults, her tone. Disappointing. Very disappointing.

Between her and Anne W today I am honestly starting to think that modern politics is so messed up that only eccentrics with an inflated sense of self are in politics. (No particular reason to pick 2 female examples - although as we know females come in for even more abuse so the pressures will be even greater).

ZebrasAreBras · 04/07/2019 22:00

Feminism is supposed to be about EQUALITY of the sexes.

Women and feminists fought for women's rights. We weren't handed them on a plate.

Women fought for and built the first women's toilets. Because before that, women's freedoms were severely restricted by not having access to appropriate facilities.

Women's segregated toilets are protected by law - transwomen are not women.

"Don't be a Jeremy Hunt"

How to make sure you are never taken seriously in politics (or life) ever again.

MrsJamin · 04/07/2019 22:31
she's given with Joe.co.uk (whatever the hell that is, never heard of it before. I'm not sure I can bring myself to watch it all for her lack of care for women's points of view.

So depressing to hear from such a young woman. Is it that her lack of experience at being a woman means that she hasn't had the experience of being treated as a woman? I know for sure a lot of MNers would say that having been through pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood lets them know exactly how women are treated because of their biological difference to men.

AlessandraAsteriti · 04/07/2019 22:46

This is actually painful to watch.

SpitefulBreasts · 04/07/2019 22:51

@Chickenwing
Hello Mhairi.
Human beings cannot change sex, men cannot become women.
HTH

fascinated · 04/07/2019 23:01

It seems that she has had a lot of issues with girls growing up and instinctively feels she is excluded from a lot of “female” stuff. She is also worried about being challenged herself because she thinks other women might not believe she is female! That is bizarre... She conflates homophobia that she has faced with transphobia.

MrsJamin · 04/07/2019 23:09

Yeah I wonder whether there are similarities in hers and Ruth hunts experience where as not the most feminine looking lesbians they have been sidelined and extend that empathy towards trans people. It's such a long interview and has so many ill considered ideas. The time she brings up the lack of gendered toilets in peoples home, for fucks sake she is an idiot if she thinks that can be compared to a public toilet! Such lazy thinking.

NotBadConsidering · 04/07/2019 23:22

Why don’t Chickenwing and Mhairi Black hop in the car together, drive to Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy, sit down with the two children who were sexually assaulted by Katie Dolatowski in toilets, and tell those 10-12 year old girls what bigots they are for not wanting a male to pee next to them.

Alternatively, they can both fuck off.

Datun · 04/07/2019 23:36

I'm a woman. I have female genetalia. Why is a transperson more danger to you than me? Why can I pee next to you? It's sexist. Call yourselves feminists?? Feminism is supposed to be about EQUALITY of the sexes

Yeah, I'm not sure you understand feminism.

Let's say women killed two men a week, that teenage boys were being married off to 50-year-old women, that we cut their penises so they can't enjoy sex, that we discriminate against them on the basis that they might become dads, that we pay them less, that we don't have them represent the male population in parliament, that women commodify their bodies, women sell them, traffic them, rape and abuse them and let's clamour for 117 million boys and men to go missing across the world (more than both world wars put together).

And, of course, let's demand that women commit 50% of all the sex crimes in the country, rather than 1%.

Because that is equality.

If, on the other hand, you want to stop that happening to women and girls, that would be feminism.

FormerMediocreMale · 04/07/2019 23:38

I tried not to watch the video but just did, yikes!

I'm sending my MP the link Jeremy Hunt is down to the last 2 candidates for PM and she has just used his name to disrespect women in a vile way. That is not acceptable behaviour for an MP of any party, male or female.

fascinated · 04/07/2019 23:42

What made me realise how women are disadvantaged for our biology was working in an office where I saw woman after woman slide off onto the “mummy track” to be ignored or, at best, belittled (often in front of me, as I was seen as “safe” being a bit of a workhorse who didn’t seem to want kids...)

Datun · 04/07/2019 23:51

Why is a transperson more danger to you than me?

Because they belong to the male sex class who commit 99% of all sex crime, and 90% of all violent crime. Irrespective of how they identify.

Goosefoot · 05/07/2019 00:15

And honestly, I personally don't worry much about the threat issue in terms of my own life. But I do believe that I am entitled to privacy in terms of changing, sharing rooms in a hospital, etc. I probably spend as much time with close male friends as female ones and I'd never worry about them being pervy. The same for my dad, or step-dad, or my uncles. And I've seen plenty of naked men in contexts where you'd expect that.

I still would prefer not to get changed next to them and see their man-bits. And they would prefer not to as well, because they have a sense of respect for peoples privacy including their own. There is nothing wrong with sex based segregation for those kinds of things in a society, it has nothing to do with being unequal.

What I don't care about is the hairstyle, clothing, or name, of the person in my changing room. It's not an invasion of my privacy if a female person who dresses in male clothing, with a buzz cut, named John, is in the next locker. We don't sex segregate change rooms or hospiitals etc to validate people's feelings that would be weird.

dreichuplands · 05/07/2019 00:24

It took me a while to get that it wasn't all about me. I haven't been seriously sexually assaulted, don't belong to any religions with exclusions about the opposite sex and am pretty relaxed in general about my physical privacy.
But eventually it got through to me that was my personal privilege and I had a responsibility to other people and not just myself.
So while I have no huge issues with mixed sex changing rooms that doesn't give me the right to go along with giving away sex segregations that are valued by others.
Just because I can barely run for a bus I cannot agree to give away female sports.
Hopefully as MB grows up a little she will also realize the world doesn't revolve around her.

Basdan · 05/07/2019 00:25

I'm only 12 mins in to the extended video and have literally ended up in tears of frustration. Having shared my very personal story with her I feel like she is calling me, personally, a cunt and dismissing my feelings and experiences. She is so desperate to be pc and tied up in the history and her experiences of being a young, gay woman that she has failed to grasp that it such a different subject altogether. I can't even find the words to express myself just now, I'm basically just gutted. I know I shouldn't take it so personally but right now I do.

Basdan · 05/07/2019 00:28

Oh and when she shared the video she wrote "Transphobia and bigotry cannot play a part in the conversation around GRA reform. Let's keep it respectful." How is she being respectful? and as far as I'm concerned she is being the definition of a bigot herself.
bigot - "a person who is intolerant towards those holding different opinions."

FormerMediocreMale · 05/07/2019 00:30

So sorry Basdan she has no right to dismiss you or anyone else in that way. Flowers

I'll pass on the extended video the short version was bad enough.

Basdan · 05/07/2019 00:47

Thanks FormerMediocreMale, reading threads on here is pretty much what reassures me I'm not alone in how I feel. I'm very out on my opinions in RL now and people largely agree to my face but with absolutely no horror like I feel and I struggle to understand that.

MrsJamin · 05/07/2019 07:48

You're right @Basdan, she is bigoted and disrespectful calling women terfs, moronic and a "Jeremy hunt". How can she get away with this?
