Can we start an anti "nail" campaign?

As a GP who frequently washes her hands, allotment owner and instrument player I really hate the trend for women to have immaculate nails that cost a fortune, scratch people and mean women can't do anything useful. Where t f did this horrible trend come from and how do we give women back the use of their wonderful hands?

I'm with the Wear Wot The Fuck You Like brigade.

LimeKiwi · 04/06/2019 00:13

Lime Kiwi is going to have a fit

Confused No, but thanks for your concern lol

barelove · 04/06/2019 00:13

Erythronium Jeez! can't you just stop being such a meany? All this talk about patriarchy influencing things is just not nice and literally takes away CHOICE from other women! Because it has to be one or the other and I cannot be influenced so that means you're wrong.

Go take your feminist analysis to the feminist board.... wait, what? Hmm

Erythronium · 04/06/2019 00:13

Another issue with beauty prodcuts is that they alienate us from our bodies. If you're looking at your body as something that is a canvas for decoration, you're not experiencing it as it really is.

Contraceptionismyfriend · 04/06/2019 00:14

That's fine. But this ain't a private bird is it? It's open to absolutely everyone. The bird is just here to narrow down topics so their easier to find. Doesn't exclude any type of post.

They want to do something they believe in. Good for them. Me owning a vagina doesn't mean I have to care. I'm in the middle of a conversation with the local beautician about how I can squeeze in my desperately wanted pamper for before I go into labour. I want my nails done, my eyebrows and my eyelashes done. I want them done because I like it. I don't care if anyone else likes it. I don't care how it makes anyone else feel.

I don't care if someone sports a uniborw and has horrible nails. But I would never be so arrogant to try and restrict others choices because it went against what I believe in. Which appears to be the new goal of feminism.

That's not what was said though, was it. I said wanting to ban nails or live in a world without "plastic" looks is taking away choice if they got their own way and that was then a thing.
It harms no-one if someone loves long nails or high heels.

LimeKiwi · 04/06/2019 00:16

Well said, all of this

Contraceptionismyfriend · 04/06/2019 00:16

@LimeKiwi are you saying that you didn't get spun into a fitful rage by brands creating adverts for their products that they wish to sell?!

Are you sure?! Do you want to sit down and have another look then get back to us?

Erythronium · 04/06/2019 00:16

LOL, I'm just having fun googling now, barefun.

Those silly advertisers spending millions on ads that affect absolutely no woman ever. What a waste of money.

LimeKiwi · 04/06/2019 00:17

@LimeKiwi are you saying that you didn't get spun into a fitful rage

I am saying that, yes. Why the hell would I lol Grin

barelove · 04/06/2019 00:20

Yup. They could spend it on getting their nails done instead. You know, just for them, not for anyone else to see, because THEY like it.

Contraceptionismyfriend · 04/06/2019 00:20

Of course advertising affects consumers. I woke in marketing FYI.

But you have a niche who you appeal to.
The people who would look at those would be interested in the product. They would want the range of colours, the longer lasting affects.

Have you been on a make up page on FB recently. Glam Heaven is a great example. People love what they can create. It brings people actual happiness.

If you don't want it then don't. The last time I had my nails done was 4 years ago. Now I want them done again.

It wasn't a drug that once trapped me I could never be freed! Seriously are there no issues in the world that this is what some women want to fight about?!

Do you not see how you are turning women away from feminism? How you are causing more harm to the 'cause' then anything else?

LimeKiwi · 04/06/2019 00:20

Yup. They could spend it on getting their nails done instead. You know, just for them, not for anyone else to see, because THEY like it

I don't like having my nails done though so I'll pass ta.

Erythronium · 04/06/2019 00:21

"I don't care if someone sports a uniborw and has horrible nails"

What are "horrible" nails when they're at home?

Why would you even notice someone's eyebrows?

LimeKiwi · 04/06/2019 00:22

Do you not see how you are turning women away from feminism? How you are causing more harm to the 'cause' then anything else?

I don't think they do (see, that is)

Contraceptionismyfriend · 04/06/2019 00:22

Horrible nails - go watch the toe Dr.

Because it's by their eyes and I also posses eyes...for seeing....

LimeKiwi · 04/06/2019 00:22

Why would you even notice someone's eyebrows?

Why would you even care what another woman does with her nails?

Erythronium · 04/06/2019 00:23

"But you have a niche who you appeal to.

The niche for makeup and nails being women. If you look upthread I posted some market research about how companies are expanding into the developing world, promoting their products to women who have never used them before. Companies create new markets for their products. They do it all the time.

Erythronium · 04/06/2019 00:24

"Why would you even care what another woman does with her nails?"

I don't, I care about the patriarchal pressures that mean it's only women who are expected to do this.

barelove · 04/06/2019 00:24

Oh Lime I wasn't talking about you Grin

I was referring to the silly money wasted by advertisers and thinking they might want to do something else with it.

Erythronium · 04/06/2019 00:27

Men don't have to do it

Contraceptionismyfriend · 04/06/2019 00:27

Actually if you did join something like glamheaven I think you'd be shocked at the amount of male participants.

Look at the leading make up influences. Jefferey Star etc

Erythronium · 04/06/2019 00:27

It's only women and girls who are expected to be beautiful or pretty

LimeKiwi · 04/06/2019 00:27

I don't, I care about the patriarchal pressures that mean it's only women who are expected to do this

Women aren't "expected" to paint their nails though FFS lol.
