MN have deleted the thread started by Maya - who lost her job for speaking up for women- because it talks about her crowdfunding for legal costs

Here is today's times article on the case https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/tax-expert-fired-for-saying-trans-women-aren-t-women-tpqgnm9vj?shareToken=3f12f5cae61c02fd41040eb816fd37b4&wgu=2705255426441557045162977940f0d76fa1&wgexpiry=1564821162&utmmsource=planit&utmmedium=affiliate&utmm_content=22278

Maya is on Twitter, for those who want to read more about her case and her views

dianebrewster · 05/05/2019 09:44

We don't NEED to post any links to, or info on, the crowdfunder on this thread so please don't, so as not to break the MN rules.

I would like to thank Maya for speaking out.

Thank you. Wishing Maya lots of luck and I hope she wins her case.

FlaviaAlbia · 05/05/2019 09:45

And here's her article on Medium for when the Times share token expires

Good article. Gilligan again.

From the article:

"In an email, a CGD manager said: “You stated that a man’s internal feeling that he is a woman has no basis in material reality. A lot of people would find that offensive and exclusionary.”

But true.

So people cannot say true thing because others are invested in being upset at true things.

Idiots.

OrchidInTheSun · 05/05/2019 09:46

For those who can't be bothered to read the article, Maya (who is one of the original founders of Let Toys Be Toys which started on MN) has lost her job because she tweeted on her personal Twitter about the self-ID and the consultation about it. And because she believes that women are adult human females.

TheBullshitGoesOn · 05/05/2019 09:46

The thread vanished before my eyes.

I wish Maya all the best in her tight for justice.

Joisanofthedales · 05/05/2019 09:46

Maya. Stay strong. You have my admiration for your courage and you have my support for your fight against the loss of free speech imposed by the Trans lobby. Will donate today.

Yes, I thought that would probably happen.

Better to talk about the case then.

I was interested on the other thread about the protection of belief versus the protection of being able to state facts, could whoever posted some of that analysis maybe have another go here? I’m not sure I had understood about what happens if your belief is actually arguably a fact...

ArfArfBarf · 05/05/2019 09:47

I’d love to know the proportion of comments written to those published on that times article!

Datun · 05/05/2019 09:47

Well done Maya. I had a whole bloody comment typed out and wondered why it wasn't posting.

It's an incredible case.

Pivotal to the entire issue.

Utterly crucial that anyone and everyone reads the links.

Floisme · 05/05/2019 09:47

Dammit I'd seen that thread and was just coming back to post on it.
Thank you Maya and best of luck with the case.

Sacked by a think tank for wrong think.... I'm trying to think of a suitable quip but there isn't one. Flowers

Popchyk · 05/05/2019 09:49

Can you imagine an employer taking action over someone stating that a a belief in God has no basis in material reality?

Because a lot of people say that there is no God.

Should we stop them saying that?

Datun · 05/05/2019 09:49

Maya thinks the complaints came from Washington (they have an office there).

Transactivists will attack anyone and try to shut down any discussion.

Even people whose actual job it is to think independently and analyse neutrally in order to advise government.

S1naidSucks · 05/05/2019 09:49

That quote from the letter was astonishing. What about a woman’s feelings when we are being told that we are not a biological reality, but simply a thought in a man’s head. Is that not offensive and exclusionary?

OldCrone · 05/05/2019 09:50

I’m not sure I had understood about what happens if your belief is actually arguably a fact...

Someone mentioned that there had been a case about environmentalism, based on science rather than simply a belief, but I haven't managed to find anything about it yet. Does anyone have a link to that case?

Angryresister · 05/05/2019 09:51

I understand the MN rules about crowd funding. However I wonder which group actually did the reporting and who have most to lose from women acting together in solidarity. The thread could have stayed up with the link deleted. Donated. It is important to show that we can do this. Nobody is pressurising anybody and it lifts my spirits to know it can happen.

SarahTancredi · 05/05/2019 09:52

I sincerely wish you luck maya

This is just ridiculous. Nothing you said wasnt true.

Oldcrone also one about Scottish nationalism

LangCleg · 05/05/2019 09:52

Thank you for everything you have done and are doing for women and girls, Maya. From Let Toys Be Toys, to speaking up on the hell hole of a site that is Twitter, to this important case.

I wish you all the success.

OldCrone · 05/05/2019 09:55

Can you imagine an employer taking action over someone stating that a a belief in God has no basis in material reality?

Atheism is a good analogy to this.

Genderism is belief system like a religion, so a non-believer in this belief system is a sort of gender atheist. So if atheism has protection under the EA, as the right not to believe in god, someone who doesn't believe in genderism should also be protected.

HairyPotter · 05/05/2019 09:55

Good luck Maya. I’ve donated as well. It’s heartening to see how quickly it’s reached 10k in just over an hour.

I’m not sure why the original thread couldn’t stay, I don’t think it had a link to the crowd funder just the two articles.
