MN have deleted the thread started by Maya - who lost her job for speaking up for women- because it talks about her crowdfunding for legal costs

Here is today's times article on the case https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/tax-expert-fired-for-saying-trans-women-aren-t-women-tpqgnm9vj?shareToken=3f12f5cae61c02fd41040eb816fd37b4&wgu=2705255426441557045162977940f0d76fa1&wgexpiry=1564821162&utmmsource=planit&utmmedium=affiliate&utmm_content=22278

And I control all the budget in my household of 4.

Datun · 05/05/2019 10:46

Plus, if this doesn't go the way it should, Maya can appeal. And appeal. And appeal.

Let this go right the way up the food chain as high as possible, so the entire planet gets to hear what's at stake.

HumberElla · 05/05/2019 10:47

Freedom of speech it balanced by your responsibility for what ypu put out there

So does this apply during a government consultation about the Specific topic in question? Green you are basically telling women that it is their own fault if they get the sack for discussing their views, when invited to do so by government, in a democracy, over a point of law.

You appear to have a very disturbing and rather limited approach to Free Speech.

Bluestitch · 05/05/2019 10:49

There's not a chance Maya would have been sacked if she'd publicly reached a different conclusion about GRA reform.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 05/05/2019 10:50

Don't worry Datun, I know x

Alltheprettyseahorses · 05/05/2019 10:51

It isn't controversial to say humans don't change sex. It certainly isn't controversial to state the fact that women are a biological reality and not defined by a feeling in a man's head of what we should be and how we should think. This is all just highlighting the repressive, woman-hating nature of the TRA movement. I really hope Maya's employers are held to account for their treatment of her, treatment that reflects their contempt for all women.

HumberElla · 05/05/2019 10:54

Quite Blue. I wouldn’t expect someone to get the sack for saying TWAW. Even though the vast majority of the population would disagree and I find it offensive. It is perfectly ok for people to hold a view others find offensive.

Floisme · 05/05/2019 10:56

From CGB's own website, presented without comment:
Our scholars conduct rigorous, impartial analysis informed by evidence and experts from around the world, to shape intellectual debate

littlbrowndog · 05/05/2019 10:58

Yeah they would probably get a stonewall inclusivity badge. Despite the fact I find that view offensive to me as a woman

emerencealwayshopeful · 05/05/2019 10:58

Well here is more evidence that we are only allowed opinions if they are the 'approved' ones.

Behind you Maya. And all the way to the top. You weren't fired for having a public opinion but because some didn't think that it was acceptable for you to hold and share that opinion.

Bluestitch · 05/05/2019 10:58

Yep. Green's argument might hold some weight if it was policy that no public opinions about changes in law/ policy were allowed. But we all know that this happened because Maya dared to have the 'wrong' opinion about a policy. Of course if Green can point me to anywhere that anybody has lost their job for saying TWAW and therefore being exclusive of GC women I will immediately apologise.

littlbrowndog · 05/05/2019 10:58

But I wouldn’t expect them to get the sack for that

Imnobody4 · 05/05/2019 11:00

I thought capitalism wasn't the road to serfdom. Bloody international companies acting like they own the bodies and souls of their employees. Governments legislating to curb freedom of speech. We are seriously on the edge of a new dark age. Respect for Maya.

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/05/2019 11:08

This is such an important case and Maya is a brave woman.

Mamello · 05/05/2019 11:09

I think we should bear in mind also what Maya's job actually was. She is very well respected with regard to her work/research on international development, tax and corruption. As part of this she looks at the way women in many countries are adversely affected by fiscal policies and male dominated economic systems. Of course she has to have an opinion as to how women are defined and one that recognises that their biological function is the basis discriminating against them. I am really disgusted that CGD seem totally happy to throw 50% of the human race under the bus and think looking at their sources of funding might be useful.

OccasionalKite · 05/05/2019 11:15

Have added my support - for Maya and for all who are standing firm against those who are desperately seeking to silence women.

Cwenthryth · 05/05/2019 11:17

Very good point. How is CGD funded?

sausagess · 05/05/2019 11:20

Thanks for starting this thread. I didn't see the other one and have now found the crowdfunding page elsewhere and donated.
It's great to watch the £s going up and up and up!

FiredMaya · 05/05/2019 11:20

Thanks all! I missed most of the last thread because I've been otherwise engaged! But I did see there were discussions on there about the case and the legal issues and wider implications for others.

I've asked MN if they can have a look at removing any excessive fundraising linkage and reinstate the thread.

(granted its probably my fault for starting this thing on a bank holiday Sunday when whatever mod pulled the short straw to be working is on their own and faced with a barrage of reporters)

SpartacusAutisticusAHF yes but it has to be in the charities section, not the feminism boards.

Nephilim1964 · 05/05/2019 11:21

More than £17,500 raised so far. Women are angry AF. Just sayin'....

JessicaWakefieldSV · 05/05/2019 11:22

Careful, we’re not allowed to mention any fundraising even! Confused

Nephilim1964 · 05/05/2019 11:26

Probably should've used letters instead of numbers....

More than seventeen thousand and five hundred pounds so far Wink

HumberElla · 05/05/2019 11:27

Please please can we NOT mention the fundraiser. It’s so important this thread is left alone.
