I agree that consent is right at the heart of so many of the current Safeguarding issues.

Needmoresleep · 11/04/2019 17:01

R0wan, I was looking at intercalation options for medical students yesterday. It's when you take a year out in the middle of a five year course to take an academic degree. One available specialisation is medical ethics, which is offered, seemingly by only....and Bristol.

Bristol, the people who have just held a series of events with their Visiting Professor Joanna Olsen-Kennedy, organised by Bristol's home grown Teli-people.

No wonder a strong article like the Times one seems not to create the immediate action it ought to. It all seems so sewn up.

That said, things will alter in time. I now know two sets of parents affected by this, with similar tales of woke social services, affirmation only approaches by schools, and hormones being offered within months of a teenager announcing they are trans. The strain on the parents is huge, as they do what parents do and try to slow things down whilst loving and supporting their child. The ripples fan out as others realise who absolutely dangerous this all is. Be as woke as you want, but don't damage vulnerable children. We, including media like the Times, need to make as much noise as we can, to stop this before more lives are put at risk.

Needmoresleep · 11/04/2019 17:01

Sorry, a word got lost. Oxford and Bristol.

Its not so much that Social Workers are 'woke', their practice has been limited by transactivism just as with police, NHS, judiciary, MoJ etc

I think that the seniority of the professionals quoted in the Times articles will make the intial lock-downs/denials impossible to sustain.

That the head of Oxford's Evidence based medicine is front and centre is hugely significant.

He has (as you know) also written a paper for the BMJ which the article was based upon and featured in the Panorama program.

There are a couple of meetings coming up with the sole focus on Safeguarding gender questionsing/non-conforming children in Liverpool & Lancaster.

Sharing information & the Times articles with any concerned proffessionals seems a very worthwhile thing to do.

THe role played by Peter Dunne has been very significant and has not been the focus of much discussion so far.

This recent thread is important:

"We've had two (well, one still standing) threads on Accenture and its inclusive LGBT event excluding lesbians by power of the state over the last couple of days.

We've also discussed the way in which the policy-setting leadership of other companies, state institutions (for example the police and the NHS), charities (for example NSPCC) and third sector orgs (for example Girl Guides) have enforced the top-down imposition of Gender Identity ideology despite obvious practical and ethical issues and conflicts of rights.

I came across someone remarking about the concept of regulatory capture on Twitter in relation to all this and, since we've also been discussing the actual power relations behind various oppression narratives, I wonder what everyone thought.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulatory_capture

Regulatory capture is a form of government failure which occurs when a regulatory agency, created to act in the public interest, instead advances the commercial or political concerns of special interest groups that dominate the industry or sector it is charged with regulating. When regulatory capture occurs, the interests of firms or political groups are prioritized over the interests of the public, leading to a net loss for society. Government agencies suffering regulatory capture are called "captured agencies".

There are two basic types of regulatory capture and the second rings a few bells:

Non-materialist capture, also called cognitive capture or cultural capture, in which the regulator begins to think like the regulated industry. This can result from interest-group lobbying by the industry.

What do we think? Are there parallels?"

Is this a current protest at The Times for reporting the Safeguarding & Duty of Care concerns of medical professionals?

Michelleoftheresistance · 11/04/2019 17:58

Say no to safeguarding! Child protection is hate! Whistleblowing is bigotry!

………..….wtaf? said the general public.

WeRiseUp · 11/04/2019 18:01

Quite.

R0wantrees · 11/04/2019 18:02

I just watched a short video clip of the protesters chanting 'no more propaganda' which as Anne Ruzylo observed is something to agree with.

RedDogsBeg · 11/04/2019 18:40

They really don't understand the meanings of words do they?

EweSurname · 11/04/2019 19:15

So that's how Bez spends his days now?

ZebrasAreBras · 11/04/2019 20:11

SoftDay it reminded me of Bart in this:

I'm just gonna wave my arms around, and if you get hit, it's your own fault!

RedToothBrush · 11/04/2019 20:22

So that's how Bez spends his days now?

I thought he spent them cheating on bargain hunt.

CaveMum · 11/04/2019 20:47

Re that link I posted to the Coventry Telegraph At 19:50 this evening, there is a poll asking if the Toolkit should be suspended. Please follow the link and vote!

ZebrasAreBras · 11/04/2019 20:52

Cavemum, that's good news.

THe poll is currently showing 87% Yes to suspend the toolkit.

GI & Allsorts are as bad as Mermaids.

CaveMum · 11/04/2019 21:03

Zebras also as most LEAs seem to be using guidance from GI/Allsorts and their affiliates, this is an excellent article to send to schools when raising objections to their use.

JackyHolyoake · 11/04/2019 21:11

Regulatory capture: see Stonewall's capture of the Government Equalities Office, for starters?

Ohnononono · 11/04/2019 22:03

I was watching an article on tv about breast binding/ironing, and teachers and care workers are being advised to look for signs and report it as child physical abuse, as it often a hidden cultural tradition like FGM. So no wonder a booklet going into schools that basically asked teachers to condone something they’ve already been told is child abuse was not going to go down well - or is it one rule for one community and one rule for another.....

JazzyBBG · 11/04/2019 22:18

"They may need to wash their breast binders every night on residential trips" oh bless them, cos girls never need to wash a bra.
