If Glinner is such an 'ally' why is he working only with white men?

I'm a GC feminist, but I do find all the fawning around Graham Linehan to be pathetic. He's barely given a peep about women's rights in the past, and suddenly he's jumped on the anti-TRA bandwagon, centering himself in what is and should a women-led movement (i.e. feminism).
The last straw for me is seeing fellow feminists fawn over this tweet - he posits himself as an ally, yet shows 0 interest in opening up the world of comedy beyond the thoughts of white men.

A heterosexual man being critical of transgenderism =! feminism

I will work with anyone willing to end the Authoritarian rule of an Emperor's lies.

GoGoGadgetGin · 29/03/2019 12:57

I'm confused, why is looking liking Father Ted 'fawning'?

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 29/03/2019 12:57

I've watched lots of his work. He doesn't just work with white men.

iklboo · 29/03/2019 12:58

That'll come as a shock to Richard Ayoade

Plinytheprettier · 29/03/2019 12:59

AdultHuman - you may work with whoever you wish. But he is still very much part of patriarchy, and I've not seen a shred of evidence that he is willing to challenge his own male privilege, and here is an example of him asserting it further. Lets not lose sight of what feminism is about the liberation of women from all men. Ensuring that GNC males don't colonise womanhood is not the be all and end all of women's liberation

Oh FFS I didn't mean he only works with white men! The photo in tweet is emblematic of a broader problem within comedy, which he has shown minimal commitment to addressing.

But your thread title SAYS 'only working with white men'

littlbrowndog · 29/03/2019 13:02

🐥🤷‍♀️

Say what now ?

drspouse · 29/03/2019 13:03

That'll come as a shock to Richard Ayoade
And indeed Graham's wife.

Datun · 29/03/2019 13:03

You go right ahead and tell women they mustn't support Graham Linehan. The man who is doing almost more than any other man to highlight the problems of the transgender ideology.

Yet another person who seems to think mumsnetters are bunch of pram pushing air heads who need instruction.

BlueAndWhiteTunica · 29/03/2019 13:03

I don't see any fawning, I see appreciation that someone with a public profile is using it to amplify the concerns of women despite getting a load of shit for it.

I don't see Glinner 'centring himself', I see someone with a public profile using it to amplify the concerns of women despite getting a load of shit for it.

He was quite vocal in the Repeal the 8th campaign for women's rights, so you're wrong to say he never cared about women before.

I share your concern about the relative lack of representation of women and people of African/Asian/Latino heritage in comedy, but I think four white dudes are allowed to work together without being held personally responsible for that to the extent that it negates any efforts any of them make to be 'allies' to those marginalised groups in other contexts.

Datun · 29/03/2019 13:03

Oh FFS I didn't mean he only works with white men!

Um...

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 29/03/2019 13:06

Believe me, I can find problems with the patriarchy everywhere.

I'm not going to get worked up about who silly old glinner has a drink with.

Doyoumind · 29/03/2019 13:06

This is your second ever MN post OP?

Melroses · 29/03/2019 13:09

It can get a bit fan girl in the threads. I will admit that. I think this down to the fact that people genuinely like him as an artist, he has put his money where his mouth is (to the tune of nearly 30,000 pounds). He hasn't made a few weasly remarks then pulled back like some men have done. He has genuinely made his life very difficult to take on something that has fuck all to do with him. He is not a far right nut job that Im not happy to get in bed with, but a nice person who has campaigned for things like women's right to choose. If your issue is that he isn't a good enough feminist.... well so what. I don't even think men can be feminists. His view wilp always be that of a white man. And he will akwats write from that point of view because HE IS a white man. What else can he do?

So white men can’t be GC?

NappyDisco · 29/03/2019 13:12

We have asked for male allies in this gight so being annoyed when they come through seems a bit silly.

ToeToToe · 29/03/2019 13:13

..why is he working only with white men?

Oh FFS I didn't mean he only works with white men!

Yes, OP. Very clear. We can all see exactly what you mean Biscuit

Leave glinner alone - he's a rare thing, a man that will actually put his neck on the line to fight for women's rights.

RollerJed · 29/03/2019 13:14

There's no 'fawning' just appreciation of someone brave enough to be honest.

TWAW is not a truth, having a penis but feeling female does not make you female. It makes you a trans woman which is a pretty good thing to be, if that's how you feel!

Bluestitch · 29/03/2019 13:15

Well I'm sure one of the men in that pic is Arthur Matthews, his collaborator of about 3 decades. But yes he should definitely ditch him because he's a white male Hmm
