Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

If Glinner is such an 'ally' why is he working only with white men?

I'm a GC feminist, but I do find all the fawning around Graham Linehan to be pathetic. He's barely given a peep about women's rights in the past, and suddenly he's jumped on the anti-TRA bandwagon, centering himself in what is and should a women-led movement (i.e. feminism).
The last straw for me is seeing fellow feminists fawn over this tweet - he posits himself as an ally, yet shows 0 interest in opening up the world of comedy beyond the thoughts of white men.

A heterosexual man being critical of transgenderism =! feminism

Pliny you seem rather new to this.

GC women don't want attention and we're certainly not jealous of GL getting it.

With attention comes death threats, rape threats, harassment, job loss, prosecutions etc.

Datun · 29/03/2019 14:27

Datun he's also outspoken in supporting conservative gender roles and is pro life. Enjoy.

And is not a feminist. Being gender critical doesn't make you a feminist.

Kiwi farms? Not a feminist amongst them. And they are utterly anti transgender ideology. Most people are. Because it's reality.

The problem with this is if we are to convince enough people to be gender critical, or to address the trans ideology, you're going to have to include all sorts of people are you disagree with on almost everything else.

Because numbers.

Plinytheprettier · 29/03/2019 14:29

Datun on this we profoundly disagree. One of the reason feminism needs to be defined by biological females is to fight against people like Shapiro. Would you work with woke bros and TRAs on other issues? I wouldn't.

OP posts:
Datun · 29/03/2019 14:32

I'm not working with them though Pliny!

I'm not working with any of them. I support Glinner, because he is an ally.

I'm talking about normal people, who never come into contact with a feminist. They will end up understanding the issue, by dint of it being publicised.

If you are only expecting gender critical feminists to understand the issue, we will get absolutely nowhere. Because there aren't enough.

Arewehumanorbones · 29/03/2019 14:32

Maybe there needs to be a campaign to decouple the gender critical theory from feminism? As it is getting very linked in some people's minds...

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 29/03/2019 14:32

Enjoy trying to find people that agree with you on absolutely everything.

MIdgebabe · 29/03/2019 14:33

Would you actually refuse to work with someone to save a child from drowning because they happened to be a TRA?

StrippingTheVelvet · 29/03/2019 14:33

So you would only deal with people who share all the same ideals and values all of the time Pliny? How does that even work? I'm not even on the same page as my wife on every single issue...

Datun · 29/03/2019 14:34

Maybe there needs to be a campaign to decouple the gender critical theory from feminism?

I think there is. A lot of people will call themselves gender critical but not feminist.

A lot of people are pro-choice, who aren't feminist.

A lot of people are pro free speech, who aren't feminist.

I don't think Glinner calls himself feminist, does he? He certainly understands the issue, though.

Plinytheprettier · 29/03/2019 14:35

There's a difference between not being on the same page and being in direct opposition to. The reality is Shapiro represents patriarchy at its very core. Our views on gender have nothing in common - he isn't critical of gender he supports it and wishes it to be reinforced (partly through the control of women's bodies!)

OP posts:
Datun · 29/03/2019 14:38

I don't support Shapiro, though. Except when he deals explicitly with transgenderism as an ideology.

I don't think you see any threads thanking Shapiro, do you?

I do support Glinner tho.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 29/03/2019 14:43

There’s a lot of questions you haven’t answered and I think you owe people an apology for using words like ‘fawning’ & ‘lauding’.

I mean, do you work with white men? Should nobody work with white men ever again?

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 29/03/2019 14:43

So you would only deal with people who share all the same ideals and values all of the time Pliny?

PalatineUvula · 29/03/2019 14:43

"I feel that he takes up more space than necessary"

By doing his job?

Surely you could have found a better illustration of that than the Father Ted author writing Father Ted?

I mean if he had been pictured at a feminist meeting I'd understand?

Is he supposed to give all his money to lawyers and then pledge not to work with any men ever again?

Plinytheprettier · 29/03/2019 14:45

Jessica I didn't accuse anyone specifically. I think some have and I stand by that. And frankly you've been rude and patronizing toward me from the start and I don't owe you anything.

RosaWaiting · 29/03/2019 14:47

OP - where did you find that Linehan is anti-abortion? (yes I know you wrote "pro life").

Plinytheprettier · 29/03/2019 14:47

Rosa I was referring to shapiro

OP posts:
Bluestitch · 29/03/2019 14:48

I doubt I would agree with David TC Davies about many things, I'm not particularly impressed with his voting record on some issues. But he was one of the few politicians willing to meet women's groups and he also raised the Karen White issue in parliament as well as sticking his head above the parapet to criticise the speaker when he didn't allow a question on it. The idea that you have to agree on every single thing to be able to engage on specific issues is really tiresome.

BlooperReel · 29/03/2019 14:48

I am not sure how naming him an ally is 'centering' him in feminism.

He is 'lending a hand' so to speak.

RosaWaiting · 29/03/2019 14:48

OP - thanks!

Datun · 29/03/2019 14:49

What would you have us do OP? I mean in terms of Glinner? Ignore him?

Plinytheprettier · 29/03/2019 14:49

Bluestitch not 'every single thing', but as feminist I want to ally with other feminists on women's rights, not sexists who are against those very rights!! (including TRAs)

OP posts:
CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/03/2019 14:51

okay then, you do that.

Datun · 29/03/2019 14:51

Glinner isn't standing up for 'women's rights' is he? He opposes transactivism.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 29/03/2019 14:52

as feminist I want to ally with other feminists on women's rights, not sexists who are against those very rights

Oh

I want to protect the privacy, dignity and safety of women and girls

if that sometimes means spending time with some people who I disagree with on other issues, I'm cool with that
