Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

If Glinner is such an 'ally' why is he working only with white men?

I'm a GC feminist, but I do find all the fawning around Graham Linehan to be pathetic. He's barely given a peep about women's rights in the past, and suddenly he's jumped on the anti-TRA bandwagon, centering himself in what is and should a women-led movement (i.e. feminism).
The last straw for me is seeing fellow feminists fawn over this tweet - he posits himself as an ally, yet shows 0 interest in opening up the world of comedy beyond the thoughts of white men.

A heterosexual man being critical of transgenderism =! feminism

No Datun I think that support can be critical and I'm allowed to hold a different view if I wish. Being critical of Graham Linehan does not make me less of a feminist

I didn't realise being a glinner superfan was a prerequisite to being a gc feminist.

No that’s not what’s happening. You came here and posted about one photo as if it represented all his work, and in addition attacked feminists who support him and referred to that as ‘fawning’. You’re not being challenged because you’re not a ‘superfan’, you’re being challenged because you appear to be criticising someone for working with white men and still being ‘part of the patriarchy’. You’ve singled him out in a completely unfair way, and tried to tell other feminists they’re wrong for supporting him.

Yes, that is your right and your opinion.

As it's other peoples right to hold other opinions.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 29/03/2019 14:17

It’s just purity politics and it’s completely counter productive. You’re criticising him based on one photo. I mean, do you work with white men? Should nobody work with white men ever again? This is so silly.

Plinytheprettier · 29/03/2019 14:17

I'm sorry CaptainKirk, are peterson and shapiro critical of gender stereotypes? I'm thrilled to hear they've undergone a Damascene conversion Confused

MIdgebabe · 29/03/2019 14:18

Isn’t it terribly sexist of the OP to insist that people always have to ensure they are working with women in every instance?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/03/2019 14:18

I think the issue you have here is you want everyone to agree with you and reenforce that it's right.

Which is silly, be happy with your own opinions on the subject, Air them, but don't suddenly get suprised when they aren't agreed with.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 29/03/2019 14:19

Being critical of Graham Linehan does not make me less of a feminist

Being supportive of Graham Linehan for using his platform to speak out on trans issues, does not make anyone else less of a feminist.

What is not feminist, is telling other women who they can support and using belittling language like ‘fawning’ and ‘superfan’ when they support someone you don’t.

BlooperReel · 29/03/2019 14:19

He is one of the vanishingly few men who have stuck their head above the parapet and called our gender ideaology for what it is, an attack on women's rights. And he has not rolled back on his stance even after heavy onslaught from TRA's.

How is that not an ally? Hmm

Datun · 29/03/2019 14:20

Being critical of Graham Linehan does not make me less of a feminist

No, you appear to be saying that women who are supportive are not proper feminists.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/03/2019 14:20

I'm sorry CaptainKirk
Apology accepted.

As for the rest of your post, i have no idea what you are reading, but it's not a response to me.

Plinytheprettier · 29/03/2019 14:21

BlooperReel there is no such as thing as an ally which is kind of my point. Men can never be central to feminism - the clue is in the name

Am still confused by OPs anger that a photo about a musical of a TV programmes, has the people involved in it, in it.... Is that like saying I'm annoyed a photo about the new Top Gun film, is a picture of Tom Cruise and the writer in it?

Plinytheprettier · 29/03/2019 14:22

GoGoGadgetGin is Tom Cruise being lauded as a feminist? If so then I could understand your frustration

OP posts:
JessicaWakefieldSVH · 29/03/2019 14:22

Men can never be central to feminism

Literally everyone here would agree with you. Again, supporting him on an issue we all agree on, is not centring him.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/03/2019 14:22

central to feminism

I'm sorry but who is putting men central to feminism?

MIdgebabe · 29/03/2019 14:23

Ah pet, you see ally with does not equal central too.
Try a dictionary

Datun · 29/03/2019 14:23

Ben Shapiro is very outspoken about gender politics. He had Zoey Tur telling him he would go home in an ambulance if he continued to misgender them. I believe he was subsequently threatened again, and had to engage a lawyer?

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 29/03/2019 14:23

Lauded? Who is ‘lauding’ Gilner as a feminist? You’re getting worked up about things that aren’t happening to justify your OP.

Plinytheprettier · 29/03/2019 14:24

I feel that he takes up more space than necessary and doesn't acknowledge his own male privilege enough and that photo was emblematic of that. Obviously this is subjective and we all perceive him differently.

Which is fine actually.

OP posts:
Plinytheprettier · 29/03/2019 14:24

Datun he's also outspoken in supporting conservative gender roles and is pro life. Enjoy.

OP posts:
Datun · 29/03/2019 14:24

Supporting Graham Linehan for speaking out, isn't centering him in feminism!!

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/03/2019 14:24

Which is fine actually.

It sure is!

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/03/2019 14:25

Anyway, have you ever seen anything he has written?

MIdgebabe · 29/03/2019 14:25

IS he overweight then? Isn’t that a personal matter?
