TRAs try to ruin Mumsnet survey

Just seen this one Twitter:

Transactivists are sharing a survey from @MumsnetTowers
(asking for feedback on their message boards), they're encouraging people to identify as users & complain about feminist chat. Mumsnet boards are important to so many women so please show your support

What survey is this does anyone know?

If they close FWR down, then the discussions will get into AIBU.

When will these people realise the more they try and silence people using abusers tactics, the louder it screams just why women and girls do not want them in their spaces?

aprarl · 27/03/2019 17:58

Wouldn't they just say "this topic is off limits from now on" though?

R0wantrees · 27/03/2019 18:02

Wouldn't they just say "this topic is off limits from now on" though?

What topic? Safeguarding & Women's Rights?

aprarl · 27/03/2019 18:04

Anything with certain words or themes, yes.

R0wantrees · 27/03/2019 18:18

wow!

aprarl · 27/03/2019 18:19

I'm not saying I want that! I don't!

R0wantrees · 27/03/2019 18:20

ok

LimeKiwi · 27/03/2019 18:22

Jessica racism and ableism definitely gets deleted too - disablism usually goes zap magic quick!
Been surprised at some racism lately that's been left to stand though, they don't seem to be as quick at that for some reason

killpop · 27/03/2019 18:22

So why isn't MN being asked for a TR chat board?

Because the TRAs don't want their own TR chat board - they just want to silence us (i.e. women)

R0wantrees · 27/03/2019 18:24

Wouldn't they just say "this topic is off limits from now on" though?

At the heart of the issue is the mischaracterisation that its "about trans issues"
The centring is also an issue for additional reasons.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 27/03/2019 18:24

they don't seem to be as quick at that for some reason Agreed. No for a long time I and other users have been frustrated at the ableism towards autism being allowed, not on these boards, elsewhere on MN. It may be a complete lack of awareness rather than not caring though.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 27/03/2019 18:25

^ totally. It’s about protecting women’s sex based rights, for me, and safeguarding our children.

OdeToDiazepam · 27/03/2019 18:28

I missed the survey Sadno email

GabrielleNelson · 27/03/2019 18:29

It would be a PR disaster to say to the users of this MB that certain topics are off limits.

Far more likely (although I hope not probable) would be an approach similar to the one transport companies use when they want to get rid of a troublesome route - make it so difficult to use that traffic falls right off, say there's no demand, close it down.

In my view that would be a catastrophic decision from MN but it is a commercial website. As we are currently seeing in public life, people sometimes make idiotic decisions for very short-term reasons and live to rue the day.

NeurotrashWarrior · 27/03/2019 18:36

DrayI got half way through. I was going to say FWR is the only board I really use!

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 27/03/2019 18:40

it is a commercial website

It is, and women do the majority of shopping and can choose to both stop using MN and the companies placing ads here if we so choose. I never did go back to Ocado, that’s a huge sum they lost from all the women here.

NeurotrashWarrior · 27/03/2019 18:45

The idea that such a survey is open to non users is as batshit as the poll created on a Brexit Facebook page earlier this week that ended up being 91% remain, obvs. As anyone could do it so it was trolled to shit.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 27/03/2019 18:52

How very surprising.

Gingerkittykat · 27/03/2019 19:18

Why don't the TRAs come and join and argue their case if they think the threads are wrong?

sackrifice · 27/03/2019 19:20

#NODEBATE Ginger.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 27/03/2019 19:21

I really don’t understand why MN allow non-users to do surveys and report posts. Why should people who aren’t users get so much of a say?

ToeToToe · 27/03/2019 19:27

Why don't the TRAs come and join and argue their case if they think the threads are wrong?

The want to silence us, they don't want to discuss.

And, of course, they can't debate it. The TRA's arguments (mainly "transwomen are women") really don't stand up to scrutiny - a flash of sunlight on them and they crumble. They can't call us 'bigots' and 'T*rfs' here - which is generally the only argument they have.

On twitter they can abuse and block women wishing to talk about their rights. Here, there's no mechanism to block people, and abuse is deleted/users are banned.

ChiaraRimini · 27/03/2019 19:28

They should have included a question on whether you own a gold lame handbag, that would identify any "brave and stunning" respondents Grin

JackyHolyoake · 27/03/2019 19:32

Remember though, that Justine Roberts wants Mumsnet to be a space for free speech, which is something she believes in. [Justine is on record as saying this.]

So, I am inclined to believe that Justine Roberts will stay true to her belief, here.

LimeKiwi · 27/03/2019 19:33

I'm guessing a lot don't "argue their case" as someone suggested upthread is because they probably think there's no point - it takes a certain amount of mental strength coupled with thick skin to be on the receiving end of any pile on if you disagree with a majority.
That's my view anyway
