TRAs try to ruin Mumsnet survey

2019StandingforWomen · 27/03/2019 14:16

Just seen this one Twitter:

Transactivists are sharing a survey from @MumsnetTowers
(asking for feedback on their message boards), they're encouraging people to identify as users & complain about feminist chat. Mumsnet boards are important to so many women so please show your support

What survey is this does anyone know?

Can they see traffic sources?

Twitter + certain date = possibly TRAs

Mumsnet + different dates = possibly members

R0wantrees · 27/03/2019 15:08

Hi all. Yes - the survey is now closed. Apologies if you missed it - but it's been running since Friday and we have enough responses to begin the evaluation

MichaelMumsnet This is very strange way to collect meaningful data.

Not sure how you will manage this one.

Many regulars on this board (which I understand was a specific focus) were only just aware and now apparently too late to contribute was might be insightful comments.

R0wantrees · 27/03/2019 15:11

I was surprised, too. Especially since one of the question specifically asked about moderation on trans threads

As opposed to moderation on 'women's rights & safeguarding' threads?
Interesting focus.

Superfragile · 27/03/2019 15:14

This at least explains why I couldn't log on earlier. It said website couldn't cope with the amount of users, I knew then that unless there was something to rival penis beaker that MN was under attack.

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 27/03/2019 15:17

Mumsnet I love FWR please do not close it down.

And risk feminism spreading across the site?

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 27/03/2019 15:18

Exactly Whatsnewpussyhat

AstonishedFemalePersonator · 27/03/2019 15:18

Yes. Interesting, indeed. It's as though MNHQ were looking for an excuse to close down those threads.

LangCleg · 27/03/2019 15:21

Posted this on the Site Stuff thread:

Yes - we closed the survey today. We have enough responses to evaluate the answers. A big thank you to all who contributed.

But we'd like an answer to this question, please, Michael:

Are you aware that the survey is being shared on twitter in an effort to influence MN to close down debate of trans issues on the site.

Once again, I draw your attention to your most excellent promoted video, Walking on Eggshells. What can you do to reassure your users that they are not being subjected to coercive control using you as the agents?

I realise I'm boring as hell with this - but I hope that if I keep asking, you will eventually answer.

AstonishedFemalePersonator · 27/03/2019 15:22

I have asked MN to confirm my recollection that it was not necessary to be a member in order to complete the survey, one question being on moderation of trans threads.

The saboteurs are tossers. They can't help but toss over women's rights. In the end, their actions always come back to that.

LangCleg · 27/03/2019 15:28

Oh, sorry. I see I quoted a deleted post.

Not my intention.

Can you send the actual tweet to HQ. I've emailed them and they responded saying any direct evidence would be very useful. Although they are aware at what point an influx of nonmembers might be responding.

Also, they say they sent an email members about the survey. I didn't get one. I don't know if everyone else did?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/03/2019 15:31

I didn't but to be fair I probably turned all the emails off at some point...

GabrielleNelson · 27/03/2019 15:32

It definitely wasn't necessary to be a member as several of the early questions asked if you were a registered member and if not, why not.

Oh dear. There was a thread on FWR encouraging us to complete this at the end of last week, I think. I did it.

OvaHere · 27/03/2019 15:35

This is hardly a surprise. I made a post in the original thread pointing out that the way the survey was structured meant it could be gamed very easily.

I have asked MN to confirm my recollection that it was not necessary to be a member in order to complete the survey, one question being on moderation of trans threads.

This is correct. You did not have to be a member of the site or give any identifying details. A person could identify as any demographic they wished for the purpose of the survey.

That's all I could see on a quick look.

It wasn't necessary to be a member to complete the survey.

It seemed to be an opportunity for people to influence the modding policy of a site they have no interest in joining or contributing to.

R0wantrees · 27/03/2019 15:41

Also, they say they sent an email members about the survey. I didn't get one. I don't know if everyone else did?

I have a dormant email for MN its not checked reguarly but will go and look.
I was aware the survey had opened but had no idea such a short window to respond.
I was thinking on Saturday there were specific meaningful issues to raise about this subject & its a shame if the opportunity lost.

AutumnCrow · 27/03/2019 15:42

How unfair.

drspouse · 27/03/2019 15:42

Presumably they can match up IP addresses to user IP addresses?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/03/2019 15:44

Can you send the actual tweet to HQ.

Have done so. Was unsurprised to see Helen Islan suggesting people fill it in.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 27/03/2019 15:56

Fascinated by the tweet saying MNetters have intentionally messed up surveys regarding trans rights.

I presume they mean by honestly taking part in government consultations and explaining the conflicts with women's rights, safeguarding and freedom of belief/religion? Confused

Seriously. Women trying to defend their threatened rights is seen as messing up surveys maliciously to harm trans people. Wtf are these people on?

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 27/03/2019 16:00

So anything from @MNHQ on why the survey was open to non-users? Seems a bit strange to do that.
