I was a sports mad teen and remember my whole family screaming like banshees when LC won his gold. He spent years as the runner up to Carl Lewis and the drugs cheat, Ben Johnson, and this was his moment in the sun. And by 100 metres standards, he won that race by a county mile. Incredibly emotional.....

As was Kelly Holmes' double in the 2004 Olympics, whom I had admired for years and who went through so much with injuries and disappointment (and competing against drug cheats), all the while serving her country in the army.

And please may I recommend John Regis (so many medals, but this is my favourite) along with Derek Redmond (Sharron Davis's ex husband), Kris Akabussi and Rodger Black winning the 4x400m final in the Tokyo World Games 1991 - it's on Youtube and incredibly emotional and inspiring. Jon Regis is still, I believe, the UK's 200m record holder.

And yet, how do these beta males brand these incredible athletes who have brought so much pleasure to sports lovers, so many accolades for their country, done so much for up and coming athletes; they are has beens, terfs and transphobes who know nothing about prejudice.

Maybe UK athletics need to realise people like me will no longer pay to go to stadia to watch athletics, if it's to watch no talent beta men steal glory from hard working girls.

FissionChip5 · 11/03/2019 19:28

Wow, I remember LC presenting Record breakers, haven’t seen/ heard his name mentioned for years.

Very odd thread, how anyone can interpret “WTF” as support for that horrible individual is beyond me.

Redshoeblueshoe · 11/03/2019 19:41

We have a B of the Bang sculpture in Manchester

ToxtethOGradysBogey · 11/03/2019 19:47

Had, I think, Redshoe , didn't it get dismantled some years back?

donquixotedelamancha · 11/03/2019 19:52

Apologies for snarky out of character post, this thread has pissed me off no end but there's no need for it.

Please, please don't apologise for some excellent posts. Would anyone be happy if the threads about Sharon Davies paused to focus on her tits? Damn right to call those comments out.

Redshoeblueshoe · 11/03/2019 19:52

It might have been, I rarely get to that part of Manchester these days

It was demolished because bits of it kept falling off from memory....
From what I recall seeing from the train, the concept was pretty good, made a decent piece of sculpture that could be seen from a distance.................But obviously the basic engineering didn't match the artistic conception, and since bits kept falling off, they had to dismantle it ('elf and safety) -- although slightly cross that rather than keep it in storage and possible re-erection, instead it was sold for scrap!

OunceOfFlounce · 11/03/2019 20:17

That's such a shame about the sculpture. There's still a stadium named after him though. Formerly the west London stadium, now the Linford Christie stadium, we had a primary school sports day there.

terryleather · 11/03/2019 20:22

Oh I used to love seeing B Of The Bang when I was coming into Manchester on the train, I thought it was fabulous...disappointed it got taken down.

Harebel · 11/03/2019 22:34

I've NCd. The ghastly McKinnon has blocked me too. I've never tweeted or mentioned McKinnon. The only thing I can think of is I follow some pretty amazing GC feminists & have liked some of their tweets, none of which mention McKinnon. Ugh.

Hurrah for LC for saying it like it is! Good man! I had no doubt what he was referring to but... if reading hurriedly & scrolling from a phone, I can see why headlines/tweet replies/ threads can be misinterpreted which is why it pays to take time to read the full article/background/check source and so on.

WaddIelikeapenguin · 11/03/2019 23:31

Ahh thank you for the video! I was all chuffed that I didn’t cry when he won, when he celebrated but “this one’s for Ron” 😭

TheSerenDipitY · 11/03/2019 23:37

maybe we need to start the change,
start calling ourselves female or genetically female, not women/woman as it seems the men have that on lock down now,
and maybe we need to start having sports segregated by male and female
if women means men get to go in womens sports, womens safe places, fuk anything with women only on it, then we need to change, embrace that change, we are no longer women we are female... that is something a man cant take from us, it is biological, it is genetic and unchangeable and cant be challenged , if we want to keep a place, sport, area, changing room etc etc exclusive for just genetic females and we label as such then a "woman" is not welcome and can be excluded, they want women/woman have at it, just know you can not have female no matter how many cocks get cut off

EcclesThePeacock · 12/03/2019 00:12

Unfortunately some TW are trying to muscle in on 'female' too. Hmm
Best not to concede an inch.
Woman = 'adult human female'. Transwomen are transwomen, not women.

Aeroflotgirl · 12/03/2019 08:03

It is good that this is being talked about and out in the open. Maybe we should be saying non transwomen sport. The more that transwomen are breaking into women's sport and thrashing biological women, that is going to raise questions in the sporting community, it already has. That transwomen have an unfair advantage over biological women, and this is why they are winning. Transwomen are taking awards and glory from women who have had to overcome obstacles because they are a biological women to get to where they are, transwomen are just walking in and stealing it from them. It needs to be stopped. RM stood head and shoulders above those women in the podium, they looked taller, and larger than those women who came 2nd and 3rd.

andyoldlabour · 12/03/2019 08:11

"He spent years as the runner up to Carl Lewis and the drugs cheat, Ben Johnson,"

Seven out of eight runners, including Lewis and Linford doped at some time in their careers, and Lewis had his tests covered up by the US authorities.

LangCleg · 12/03/2019 08:29

That's conceding an inch. More than an inch. The word woman should be nowhere near anyone born male.

Why should we get deleted? The law doesn't recognise the definition 'transwoman'.

LangCleg · 12/03/2019 09:26

However, if we call them what they are, our comments are deleted.

Not using the word woman, with or without spaces and qualifications is not against the rules here. You can't delete something that hasn't been said. I don't use it or any other word pertaining to my sex. Try person.

It's the MN be nice on FWR rules innit.

I've had a post on the MB thread delete that said MB knows nothing about being a woman because MB is male and I wasn't nice enough about it either.

It stinks but it's MN's ball and it's their rules.

I'm with Lang on this, so it's they or initials/name or person for me.
