Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Did anyone watch Loose Women today?

They were discussing whether transgender people should have access to the ward of the sex they identify as.

3 of the presenters brought up the valid concerns of the safety of women but it seems Stacey Solomon thinks that its terribly unkind of women to not feel comfortable having penis in their personal space when they're vulnerable in a hospital ward.

We should ignore our own discomfort because a transwomen doesn't feel comfortable on a ward full of men 😑

Generally I like Stacey, but I cannot agree with her disregarding the concerns surrounding putting male bodies in spaces with vulnerable women. Apparently Karen White is a rare example of someone abusing self ID, so we should ignore that it happened because it doesn't happen often.

Women are collateral damage.

Maybe they needed someone to play devils advocate. Very few women are happy to be in a space where they are undressed/in night clothes/ showering where similarly attired men are wandering around.

Drogosnextwife · 11/01/2019 13:23

I generally like Stacey aswell but I had a feeling she would think like this. Disappointing.

I don’t want to change in a room with men. Why is that hatred of men? I’d really rather not change in a room of smelly kids either.

Floisme · 11/01/2019 13:27

It's fascinating to me how many people - men and women - prioritise male feelings over female. It seems to be a default setting.

happydappy2 · 11/01/2019 13:28

Didn't see it-but even IF Stacey doesn't mind sharing with males, there will be many women that don't feel comfortable & will never be asked-thats whats so depressing-women not being consulted on changes that directly affect them.

ToeToToe · 11/01/2019 13:28

Is wanting private space away from men "hating men" ?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 11/01/2019 13:28

Has always been the way. Actually not always. Women used to be revered because they gave birth.

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 11/01/2019 13:29

But there are still cunts on MN.

Well yes. MN is full of women. And women are born with cunts so it's kind of a given.

nauticant · 11/01/2019 13:30

Welcome to MN secureCompartment! I see from other posts of yours you don't like feminists.

feministfairy · 11/01/2019 13:30

It was a bit tortuous to watch but the other 3 managed say what most women (except the woke Stacey) believe, that they don't want to share a hospital ward with men - transitioned or otherwise. Especially one who is masturbating as those poor elderly women had to endure in the incident mentioned in the article.

Men and women don't want mixed sex hospital wards. It is time that this was respected.

happydappy2 · 11/01/2019 13:30

secure and pricks it would seem.....

Rejection innit? It’s why some men are so weirdly obsessed with lesbians

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 11/01/2019 13:33

Does anyone like feminists?

Now there’s a question Grin

BlueCornishPixie · 11/01/2019 13:35

It's irrelevant though really if there's one woman who would be happy to share spaces like this with men, a large enough majority of women have said they don't feel comfortable.

But those women's feelings are completely ignored, it's not even mentioned really in the debate. Because women are ways expected to forgo their own feelings for the sake of men's.

To admit that women feel uncomfortable means admitting that men pose a risk to women and lots of people don't want to do that.

I've raised this issue twice today with women whom I thought would get it but they've been very much 'Does it matter who you're lying next to in hospital if you're both ill and wired up to drips and things: what on earth do you think could possibly happen: if we don't have mixed wards we'll all have longer waiting time: NAMALT'.

I think there are some people who will never get it until they go to hospital and wake up with a man trying to get into bed with them or are using a deserted lavatory somewhere and walk in to find a man loitering. And even then they'll probably see it as an unfortunate one-off.

What's depressing is the amount of bile being spewed at the other presenters (Andrea, Nadia and Gloria) for their horrendous transphobia.

Once again women voicing their concerns for the safety and women is literal violence against transgender people. We are not allowed to voice our concerns in any way.

ToeToToe · 11/01/2019 13:38

Well, what have feminists ever done for us? Wink

userschmoozer · 11/01/2019 13:38

Is MRA a worse insult than cunts? I can no longer tell.

Some women are unable to use mixed sex spaces, for example, women in abusive and controlling relationships. I don't see anyone who supports mixed sex spaces offering to sort that out.

HollowTalk · 11/01/2019 13:40

You have to wonder at the mentality of someone who signs up to Mumsnet and goes into the Women's Rights section and suggests that nobody likes feminists. It's almost as though they are trying to cause trouble!
