So was just looking at NUS website to see if there was any news on Jess Bradley (nothing posted yet but their profile is still there) Wanted to see who was the LGBT+ Officer (Women’s Place) and saw it was someone called Eden Ladley. News on the site about a NUS Trans Conference this month so went over to their Twitter and saw that bursaries were available for Transwomen and transpeople of Colour to attend... but no mention of Transmen at all (although I suppose they are obviously entitled to bursaries if they’re not white) Someone has asked whether Transmen are entitled to a bursary but as of 23hrs later there hadn’t been a reply. Is it just a typo do you think?

Highly revealing about who is on their mental radar and who isn't.

FWRLurker · 09/01/2019 18:26

Well doncha know that white Transmen are white males and thus the oppressor class and aren't entitled to funding for minorities that Trans women and trans minority men are... You must check at least TWO "oppressed" boxes to be accepted for a bursary.

Actually by that logic they should also have busaries for cis women of color. Hmm...

Eden Ladley was one of the NUS officers who ran the 'How to deal with Terfs' workshop at NUS Women's Conference last year.
Discussion of the slideshow from this was associated with Emma Healey's anger towards the site (MN intern/data breach)

Eden Ladley comments about the privilege that trans men (because TMAM)
Rob Noon is also a trans NUS officer

Off topic but I really hope they have another scheduling clash with Border Force or another no-nonsense group again. Enlightening and entertaining.

If we did awards for best pantomime the NUS trans conference 2018 would have won hands down.

Comedy gold.

It's kind of marred by the JB accusations, which are sinister rather than anything else

Katvonbatshitmermaid · 09/01/2019 19:24

It's not a typo
Transwomen are eligible but transmen are not.

Action for Trans Health had a travel bursory fund which I think from memory (?) was just for transwomen.

R0wantrees · 09/01/2019 19:35

Katvonbatshitmermaid Is there a second screenshot with continuation of the 'who can receive a bursary'?

PencilsInSpace · 09/01/2019 19:45

Oh fab! Last year's was hilarious Grin

I seem to remember some of them wanted to exclude transmen altogether from the next event - or only include 'transmen of colour' or something.

I'm really offended by this thread. Someone send pizza and I'll also accept a donation to my PayPal.

AnyOldPrion · 09/01/2019 19:55

No wonder those transitioning from male to female can’t get enough of this ideology. Not only can they justify being lazy when it comes to moving chairs (to themselves and other men), but they get to pretend they are underprivileged and thus deserving of even more special treatment than they had as men.

OrchidInTheSun · 09/01/2019 19:57

Aww my post got deleted! I agree with you newt. Eden looked like a nice kid

I've been reading the motions, and I can genuinely say I'm very excited for this year's show.
Main themes:

  1. "queering " the curriculum, especially in STEM subjects.
  2. anyone who disagrees with us is a fascist
  3. doctors need to be re-educated, off to the gulag for those gps
  4. we know the NUS is going bust but is transmisogynistic not to give us all the cash
  5. no transmen allowed
  6. we love mermaids

NothingOnTellyAgain · 09/01/2019 20:26

The dislike of transmen is v v interesting.

So transpoeple are all oppressed except for transmen who have it really easy? And are in fact total bastards.

Confused

I also remember the stuff from before where they wanted to exlcude men (cis & trans) I mean WTF

Ereshkigal · 09/01/2019 20:29

I seem to remember some of them wanted to exclude transmen altogether from the next event - or only include 'transmen of colour' or something.

YY. This is why. Of course, it's because "transmen" have all the power and male privilege.

R0wantrees · 09/01/2019 20:31

Nothing I think its all about the hierarchy of 'privilege' rather than dislike.

Some transwomen in NUS (including Ladley) argue against transmen (female students) using women's services.

Anlaf · 09/01/2019 20:37

Oh super I loved last year's event
