So ... yesterday I posted a (what I thought was) a pretty innocuous, mild comment on an article about a news report. The subject is discussed here on another thread.

This morning my boss calls me into her office and shows me an email from a weird looking gmail address with a screenshot of my fb page.
The email was complaining about my transphobic attitude, and how the trans students at the school work in and take care off cannot be safe around me.

Thankfully my boss was as cross about this as I was, but she obviously has to follow protocol and asked me to take my place of work of FB and to delete my post of possible. She replied to the sender with a generic "thanks very much, we will look into it" reply.

We had a long chat around the subject which ended with her suggesting we had a chat with our safeguarding lead in the NY about this when I told her about and she has asked me to get a copy of the transgender trend schools pack. So its all good and I'm not in any bother as I have a sensible boss, but it could have been very different.

I know this has been happening to lots of women, but I have barely put my head over the parapet and this happens. I feel a bit shaken.

OP posts:

Surely you didn't think I'd forgotten? Confused

Men do often seem to understand it better. The amount of times I've seen drunk women mouthing off with an uncomfortable looking boyfriend in tow clearly thinking "I'm sooo about to get my head kicked in."

It's the reason why a women can slap a man around the face but a physically smaller man wouldn't usually dream of it.

MargueritaPink · 25/12/2018 23:59

Your "which men?" question makes no sense.

ScottCheggJnr · 26/12/2018 00:02

Probably because most feminists don't seem to grasp that 'men' are not some homogeneous group.

MargueritaPink · 26/12/2018 00:15

You introduced the idea that men as some sort of homogeneous mass understand violence better than women.

I am not a fan of the class analysis argument but you are using it here to support your argument.

BubonicTheHedgehag · 26/12/2018 00:48

Men (adult human males) are responsible for the vast majority of sexual and violent crimes, against everyone - children, women and men.

ScottCheggJnr · 26/12/2018 19:24

Men (adult human males) are responsible for the vast majority of sexual and violent crimes, against everyone - children, women and men.

And you lot seem determined to spread the myth that women are the principle victims.

Being 4x less likely to be assaulted by a stranger is a female privilege.

AssassinatedBeauty · 26/12/2018 19:31

"Men (adult human males) are responsible for the vast majority of sexual and violent crimes, against everyone - children, women and men."

Worth repeating.

ChewyLouie · 26/12/2018 19:42

You lot???
Step away from the Christmas sherry old cheggers , you’ll be embarrassed once you sober up and realise the shit you’ve been spouting on here.
Cheggers chugging on with the same misogynistic crap. Give it a break.

ScottCheggJnr · 26/12/2018 19:44

It's a problem for both sexes, ultimately. But the sex complaining the most is by a fair margin the least affected.

AssassinatedBeauty · 26/12/2018 19:45

Oh give over.

FloralBunting · 26/12/2018 19:50

I could be wrong though...

I think this is my favourite Chegg post ever. I wish the thread had ended there.

Hohocabbage · 26/12/2018 19:52

What is the reason then that men don’t complain more? Given the majority of men aren’t violent offenders, and the majority of violence is directed at men, just where are the men’s movements to stand up to violence? This puzzles me.

ScottCheggJnr · 26/12/2018 19:52

I'm partly in agreement with you. It's the 'greatest human rights issue in the world' as is often pointed out on here, and men are the principle victims.

ScottCheggJnr · 26/12/2018 19:58

What is the reason then that men don’t complain more? Given the majority of men aren’t violent offenders, and the majority of violence is directed at men, just where are the men’s movements to stand up to violence? This puzzles me.

Violence has dropped significantly over the past few decades, even if discourse has gone the other way. I guess most men realise that things are getting better but that there will always be violent individuals.

And men are generally less inclined to moan (I know that sounds like a terrible thing to say but take a quick look over in AIBU right now and tell me I'm wrong!).

gcscience · 26/12/2018 20:06

Many men never stop moaning Cheggers, in my experience. I don't believe it's genetic, they just pick up from society that they, and their feelings, are very, very important.

gcscience · 26/12/2018 20:08

And AIBU, I don't feel, is about moaning: it's more like testing out if your take on a situation is outrageous or not (in my opinion).

ScottCheggJnr · 26/12/2018 20:10

Well, that's the reverse of toxic masculinity the sensitive 'new man', seemingly very ubiquitous amongst the entitled millennial snowflakes.

ScottCheggJnr · 26/12/2018 20:13

And AIBU, I don't feel, is about moaning: it's more like testing out if your take on a situation is outrageous or not (in my opinion).

I agree that's likely the intended use of AIBU, but when a thread is titled "FURIOUS at CF MIL!!!" you can bet there's going to be a serious whingefest going on within!

ChewyLouie · 26/12/2018 20:18

‘Men are generally less likely to moan’
They don’t need to with you on side Cheggers, you never stop moaning on here : “men are victims, poor wee men being beaten up, women help the defenceless men, whinge, whinge, whinge”.

ScottCheggJnr · 26/12/2018 20:38

But I'm discussing 'the greatest human rights crisis known to man' (with 'man' not being 'mankind' so much as 'men').

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 26/12/2018 21:14

I have searched mumsnet far and wide, and this is with out any question THE most twattish comment of 2018...possibly ever

a rational person would avoid putting themselves in danger as far as is reasonably practical....Of course, you shouldn't have to but that's reality. Men understand this, being the principle victims of violence and homicide

Unfortunately guidelines stop me from saying too much further...which is a bit of a shame

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 26/12/2018 21:15

*"Men (adult human males) are responsible for the vast majority of sexual and violent crimes, against everyone - children, women and men.

Repeating again

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 26/12/2018 21:16

Oooh look...epic bold fail

ScottCheggJnr · 26/12/2018 21:17

I'll bet you wouldn't have an issue with the statement if the last line was removed (the bit which is a fact).

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 26/12/2018 21:19

Its the

Men understand that

bullshit I actually have the issue with scot

Wouldnt make a murmur otherwise..thats the truly twatty bit, i just felt it need the context
