Bunbury’s Public Service Announcement 2

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

This is a continuation of the first Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3321127-public-service-announcement

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we’ve had several community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links in following posts.

It appears I have stumbled across the fortress of sanity, I had heard tales of this Bunbury thread.

LangCleg · 29/07/2019 18:24

Named in honour of our revered leader, Germane Bunbury, DoctorEm. You may have read her seminal text Fuck 'em, the lot of 'em - it's one of our favourites.

ThatDoctorEM · 29/07/2019 18:31

It rings a bell but I feel I would benefit from a re-reading, or even just copying it out until it has become a part of me. I'll go check the original thread, is it hosted there?

LangCleg · 29/07/2019 18:34

Oral history only, I'm afraid. We had to anti-penis protect it, you see.

(93.2% of the text is fuck 'em. But don't tell anyone I told you.)

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 29/07/2019 18:40

Unfortunately as happens to powerful women sometimes, she has had a slightly creepy stalker pop up who likes to do a poor imitation of her

ThatDoctorEM · 29/07/2019 18:43

Lang & Bernard these accounts are stirring something in my jumbled brain.

Michelleoftheresistance · 29/07/2019 18:47

When you're engaged in what you think is a relatively sensible conversation and then suddenly get drenched in froth with multiple points nothing whatsoever to do with the topic at hand but providing a neat list of TRA bingo squares...…. Confused

Pass the gin please?

ThatDoctorEM · 29/07/2019 18:51

Someone has just tried to justify the term 'pregnant people' instead of women..... what. What had happened here? Things seem a miss on the FWR boards.

FloralBunting · 29/07/2019 18:57

Honestly? Same as it ever was, AWAs abound, and a lot of sensible women have upped sticks for various reasons.

ThatDoctorEM · 29/07/2019 19:01

I haven't seen Datun for a while but I have been cheering on many of my favourite voices from my dark corner I lurk in.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 29/07/2019 19:02

I opt to Grey Rock rather than allow time wasters to sit at the top of the board.

If you are referring to me I was pointing out the incorrect interpretation of how protection is given to an employee who is pregnant. The employee can "identify" however they want- they still can't be sacked just for being pregnant. The posts relating to sacking because of pregnancy/ sex discrimination were wrong.

Lass I was referring to the OP on that thread, I had missed your post about the law.

littlbrowndog · 29/07/2019 22:04

Datun is about as ever with her common sense and on point comments 🥰🥰

FloralBunting · 29/07/2019 22:34

Oh Lass knows you didn't mean her, she just wanted to preen a bit about being right. I've had the same sort of thing from one of my daughters this evening because I thought the milk was in date and she was right that it wasn't.
Luckily for me I'm able to say when I'm wrong, so I avoided a sour cup of tea.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 30/07/2019 08:56

Wtf someone reported a comment on this thread? Poor form.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 30/07/2019 09:03

Crikey. I thought that comment was pretty mild. Turns out having an opinion is a delectable offence now-who knew?

JessicaWakefieldSV · 30/07/2019 09:05

The moderating over the last few months has been hard to follow tbh but there are certain posters ( and of course our monitors ) who do love a report button Confused

LangCleg · 30/07/2019 09:17

Oh FFS.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 30/07/2019 09:22

I’d be pretty astonished if a post like that got deleted elsewhere on the site

Tempted to spend my lunch break reporting each and every post that could be construed as troll hunting on the first page of AIBU

I do wonder about MNHQ’s priorities sometimes, bearing in mind some of the posts they leave to stand

JessicaWakefieldSV · 30/07/2019 09:25

I think unfortunately it really depends on the individual, hence there’s absolutely no consistency.

Weezol · 30/07/2019 15:35

The GAP thread. Oh dearie me.

VickyEadie · 30/07/2019 15:45

The GAP thread. Oh dearie me.

I see MN have closed it down. Looked like a thread moaning that models for women's clothes tend to be thin. Plus ca change, eh?

Yeahnahyeah · 30/07/2019 15:52

I only read about 16 posts, but did wonder if she was mentally unwell.
