The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

This is a continuation of the first Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3321127-public-service-announcement

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we’ve had several community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links in following posts.

If anyone is around and has time to check lesbian support thread , would be much appreciated!

Looks like Harry the owl thread not coming back.

If anyone is around and has time to check lesbian support thread , would be much appreciated!

Thanks I'll have a look.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 23/07/2019 11:25

Oh super teflon you’re here now!

You were going to explain to me how you’re defining ‘lesbian’?

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 23/07/2019 18:52

Yes, I'm dying to hear your answer too, teflontania. Do tell.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 23/07/2019 18:55

You just know that the answer is going to involve a penis !

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 23/07/2019 19:02

Or be circular, or involve stereotypes, or be ‘not as simple as you think’

My definition is as simple as you think

truthisarevolutionaryact · 23/07/2019 19:04

Offers pats to Bernard's back for simplicity and clarity Grin

JessicaWakefieldSV · 24/07/2019 13:25

My god Grin my head hurts reading the nonsense from our new extremist. Deeply suspicious I am

teflontania · 24/07/2019 13:28

Where can I find them?

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 24/07/2019 13:38

Is this the ‘is feminism failing’ thread Jessica?

That looked like a big bunch of annoyance so I avoided it!

JessicaWakefieldSV · 24/07/2019 13:51

Yeah, although this particular poster is popping up with their weird stuff all over the place

2BthatUnnoticed · 24/07/2019 14:46

I’m confused, I thought “our Lesbians sisters” was a support thread, no? It came in response to a heartfelt personal thread (although I’m not the OP, who I’m not sure is posting just now)

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 24/07/2019 14:52

I guess because it’s supporting a group rather than an individual maybe? Either way I was left pretty baffled by the frantic attempts at derailing, so if that poster is encouraged to take their odd comments somewhere else, I’m happy

2BthatUnnoticed · 24/07/2019 15:05

That could be it, yes. And I was baffled too.. if you can’t emphasise with someone’s pain, just don’t comment. But thanks to you and all for your efforts Flowers

nauticant · 24/07/2019 17:32

Odd stuff on the plane-spotting thread. Seemingly strong posts to shut down the discussion about particular a BA pilot and the thread almost ground to a halt. Until enough posters posted pictures of the person in question:

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 24/07/2019 18:01

Oh yeah, 3 separate posters turned up in the space of a few minutes to assure everyone that the male pilot they were discussing was a woman.....weird

Almost like the board is constantly monitored innit?

WrathofSwhittlesKlop · 24/07/2019 18:09

Nobody dared to call out the name.
For fear of getting it wrong.

I thought I had got it wrong
Typical female socialisation. Grrrrr

2BthatUnnoticed · 24/07/2019 22:47

Is it just me or have deletion messages stopped? There was one about camping in Ireland, with mixed sex toilets - disappeared

ZebrasAreBras · 24/07/2019 23:01

I'm still getting them, 2B.

The deletion message for that one was: "Message from MNHQ: Thanks for the reports about this one.
Looks like the OP won't be coming back so we've taken the thread down now."

I went out shortly after posting on it, so I'm not sure exactly what happened before it was deleted Confused

birdsdestiny · 24/07/2019 23:07

The op who was complaining how mean we were, strangely enough became very aggressive very quickly ,and started telling people to fuck off. It was then deleted.
I need to learn to ignore the unisex threads they are like catnip to me Blush

ErrolTheDragon · 24/07/2019 23:15

Is it just me or have deletion messages stopped?

I noticed a Site Stuff type thread about some problem with deletion messages so maybe there is/was a glitch on some platforms.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 25/07/2019 17:22

There was glitches yesterday.

ArranUpsideDown · 25/07/2019 20:24

Adding in a thread about how women can not "nice their way out of being trolled" once they achieve a certain social media voice.

This is, as the movies say, not personal. It's business. You can't "nice" your way out of getting trolled. It's math.

The other option not talking about important subjects is voluntary self-erasure. It's meant to keep women out of male political, business, media spaces.

2BthatUnnoticed · 29/07/2019 03:06

Thanks everyone- yes seems it was a glitch.

That link is so interesting Arran! “With 50k followers, SM becomes impossible for many women.”

Maybe that’s why many have to be so circumspect - self defence.

ArranUpsideDown · 29/07/2019 12:07

2BthatUnnoticed - yes! That entire thread was interesting and the nuggets like that one that you pulled out are both helpful and intimidating.

It looks plausible that there's a time when it is maths that takes over tho' I am reluctant to exonerate the collective hostility on those grounds. Hmm
