Bunbury’s Public Service Announcement 2

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

This is a continuation of the first Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3321127-public-service-announcement

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we’ve had several community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links in following posts.

Yep, I looked at the GAP website

All the women’s clothes seemed to be modelled by women

Confused

I wondered if it was an ad-quite fancied some of the stuff on there!

sackrifice · 30/07/2019 18:05

The employee can "identify" however they want- they still can't be sacked just for being pregnant.

An employer absolutely can sack someone for being pregnant. It happens all the time. An employee can be sacked for virtually anything if an employer wants to get rid of them.

What can happen though is that the woman can take them to a tribunal and they have a high risk of being successful if they can prove that they were sacked just for being pregnant. It often doesn't mean getting the job back though. Which is why you would need other evidence that the job was all going well, and that there were no other issues, as employers also lie, and make up evidence to show that they had other concerns that were not related to the pregnancy.

Blimey. There's some weird stuff going on at the moment. I've just had a jammy dodger confiscated, that I was offering to someone who appeared confused about the feminist hair grooming code. I mean, who seriously thinks there's a grooming code? There seems to be a lot of needling going on to get people to define feminism for a gotcha.

Oldstyle · 30/07/2019 23:40

You can share my jammy dodgers Blue. When I've finished picking the stray hairs off them that is.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 31/07/2019 08:56

I thought that was what the biscuit was for

The changing goal posts especially for FWR is frankly starting to feel threatening again

LangCleg · 31/07/2019 10:15

The current rule being targeted for exaggerated reporting is troll hunting. Don't post cookies.

BluebonicPlague · 31/07/2019 10:37

Thanks LangCleg.

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't realise biscuits were only awarded to trolls, I thought they were there for utter thoughtlessness as well so a safe bet either way. Blush I should have used words instead - I'd deleted plenty in drafting that post and wrongly thought the jammy dodger more succinct!

There has been a rash of 'can you do X or Y if you call yourself a feminist' posts lately and I don't know what it's about. When did people start becoming so rule-bound again? (Ikr, it's partly what's behind the whole pink and blue thing.)

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 31/07/2019 10:41

sometimes this thread feels like a Tafsir , an attempt to interpret the sometimes opaque rules and actions handed down from Mumsnet Towers

LangCleg · 31/07/2019 11:26

I didn't realise biscuits were only awarded to trolls

They aren't. But y'know: now they are.

barelove · 31/07/2019 11:38

Confusing. If someone gave me a biscuit I'd think they were being a friend and I'd probs offer them a cup of tea back. Oh no.. is it a poisoned biscuit? Shock

DpWm · 31/07/2019 15:47

Is it safe to say here that on the "married to a man" thread I actually completely believe that none of what op said actually happened, and there's a very strange thing happening that I don't quite understand particularly when compared to the "long hair" thread.
Wtf is going on!

TurboTeddy · 31/07/2019 15:53

Relieved to see it's not just me who thinks we've had a few unusual threads recently. I wore a skirt today, can I still be a feminist? Confused

Deliriumoftheendless · 31/07/2019 15:58

I haven’t worn a bra for months. I win feminism.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 31/07/2019 16:09

Yup, to me it’s obvious. It might just be a distraction thing, to make the conversations look trivial at the top of the FWR board?

JessicaWakefieldSV · 31/07/2019 16:09

I haven’t worn bras for YEARS. Longer than you. I win.

Deliriumoftheendless · 31/07/2019 16:12

hands over Feministing card, hangs head

Deliriumoftheendless · 31/07/2019 16:12

(I forgot asterisks boldest things).

JessicaWakefieldSV · 31/07/2019 16:17

And I free bleed.

I reign supreme for all of eternity 😂😂

DpWm · 31/07/2019 16:20

Shall I start a thread saying
"The stereotype of feminists as short haired, unshaven women who are not married to men benefits patriarchy by putting women off feminism so please stop it"
??!

JessicaWakefieldSV · 31/07/2019 16:29

Yessssss

WrathofSWhittIeKlop · 31/07/2019 16:29

DpWm
Ooh yes
Pleeesse start that thread.

For research purposes obvs

FloralBunting · 31/07/2019 20:55

But... but... biscuits were an emoji MN created themselves that became associated with people who were being obtuse, obstructionist and you couldn't be bothered wasting your time with.

They're deleting them? WTAF?

AnyOldPrion · 31/07/2019 21:23

I had a biscuit removed ages ago, when I first returned from voluntary gulag. It seemed utterly ludicrous that you could use an emoji which is routinely used elsewhere on the site for exactly the same purpose, but suddenly on the FWR boards, it's too insulting for words.

TurboTeddy · 31/07/2019 21:32

"The stereotype of feminists as short haired, unshaven women who are not married to men benefits patriarchy by putting women off feminism so please stop it"

I'm so sorry, I see now my behaviour has been counterproductive. I will marry immediately and grow my hair. Grin

DickKerrLadies · 01/08/2019 07:15

*But... but... biscuits were an emoji MN created themselves that became associated with people who were being obtuse, obstructionist and you couldn't be bothered wasting your time with.

Just felt like repeating that.

Anyway, I've just finished rereading 1984. I'm not sure if that makes it a good or a bad time to be reading about this subject so I'm hiding here for a little while Grin
