Will society accept transwomen ARE women in future generations?

Today I debated with a young woman I adore. I'm in my 30's, her in her 20's. She attended uni in a very liberal city and has studied psychology. Definitely armed to hold an opinion.

We disagree currently on several of the current topics re trans. I personally hold what's probably the norm on the feminist boards of mumsnet in my views.

It made me wonder though - she claims not to feel women are really impacted, uses unisex bathrooms as a norm, and obviously has been socialised to not find an issue in accepting transwomen as women. Is it possible that actually society will progress in a way that her generation down simply won't have the issues which I feel exist when trying to include transwomen AS women?

Can women be educated/socialised to a place over time where several generations on - we will be the old women with outdated beliefs and the world simply isn't bothered about the things which we were?

It has to go one way or the other really doesn't it? Either a big u turn and the idea that transwomen ARE women becomes laughable and delusional is mainstream and acceptable (as many of us might feel on the boards) OR transwomen ARE women and we were the ones who were wrong

It made me wonder... I was really suprised tbh. 10 years later made a huge difference to whether we felt our rights were under attack...

Oh ffs, weet, just give a number. Given you‘re making this big drama about 5% vs 10% rapists, surely you must have a specific threshold in mind that changes everything.

AspieAndProud · 29/11/2018 21:00

Only women of a certain intelligence are allowed an opinion?

Your trump card is that you are entitled to a wrong opinion because you aren’t intelligent?

Weetabixandshreddies · 29/11/2018 21:01

(Some people deserve to be patronised.

Yeah it's very clear that whilst you purport to be fighting for the rights of all women what you actually mean is only women like you.

Calvinsmam · 29/11/2018 21:02

Which specific safe spaces do you want to ban trans women (who you seem to refer to as men) from?

Why don’t you read through the thread?

ALittleBitofVitriol · 29/11/2018 21:02

It's all smoke and mirrors. There's no good enough threshold for women to be allowed space away from males.

Feminist4 · 29/11/2018 21:02

But I think it was a right opinion and was calling out wrong statistics.

Calvinsmam · 29/11/2018 21:02

Yeah it's very clear that whilst you purport to be fighting for the rights of all women what you actually mean is only women like you.

Not being patronised isn’t a right.

Weetabixandshreddies · 29/11/2018 21:03

No AspieAndProud I'm calling out someone who thinks it's ok to put someone else down because they view them as being less intelligent.

Calvinsmam · 29/11/2018 21:03

So basically wheet isn’t going to engage with the actual bones of the discussion instead they are going to gripe about semantics and how things are said.

FloralBunting · 29/11/2018 21:04

Who is taking away your rights, or advocating for that? Or did you actually think you had a right to never be contradicted and always treated with kid gloves even when you appear to be shilling for the poor men who've had such a bunch of mean women thinking badly of them? Because that isn't actually a right. For anyone.

deepwatersolo · 29/11/2018 21:05

What is the % of rapists among males that makes unisex loos acceptable for you weet and whoever else favors them?

Weetabixandshreddies · 29/11/2018 21:05

So basically wheet isn’t going to engage with the actual bones of the discussion instead they are going to gripe about semantics and how things are said.

Oh right so I have to just put up with all of the personal attacks and engage when you say so do I?

deepwatersolo · 29/11/2018 21:07

weet, just talk to me. I just want that number, nothing personal.

OccasionallyIncomplet · 29/11/2018 21:07

In reference to the OP original question - yes I think it will be accepted in the future.

If you look at some of the 'beliefs' and attitudes we had say 100 years ago (in reference to a whole range of sex, race, religious and numerous other matters) - some of them are abhorrent to 'civilised society' today. In another 100 years that wheel will continue to turn and societal beliefs and attitudes will continue to change.

Of course many people today will dispute or disagree about that change, probably as with as much passion as they did 100 years ago. However there are a whole array of future developments, factors and influences we can't possible imagine yet that will go into shaping societal beliefs in 100 years.

I am equally sure in 100 years that we're be discussions about subjects like this (are androids considered human? Can androids be define as a particular sex) and again, there will be passion and disagreement about that too. Who knows?

I’m not telling you when you should engage.
I’m just pointing out that you aren’t actually engaging with the bones of the argument, you’re more interested in how things are said than what’s being said.

Weetabixandshreddies · 29/11/2018 21:08

Unisex toilets are a moot point though. I have only ever seen a unisex toilet that is a self contained room off of a main corridor.

I have also seen a female toilet and a male toilet which are self contained rooms off of a main corridor.

How does the % of rapists affect whether the unisex toilet is any more or less safe that a single sex toilet?

AspieAndProud · 29/11/2018 21:09

No AspieAndProud I'm calling out someone who thinks it's ok to put someone else down because they view them as being less intelligent.

And yet the whole TRA ideology rests on the assumption that the vast majority of us are just too stupid to understand their arguments.

Anyway, 10% and 5% are a hell of a lot closer than 25% and 0.15% - so why aren’t you calling out the bogus attempted suicide statistics?

What do you call people with penises, F4? I call them men (or boys).

Calvinsmam · 29/11/2018 21:12

We say Male violence is a male problem, you say that we want to stop producing men because of one analogy, but never actually comment on whether you agree with the point being made.
We say that men rape women, you cling to a statistic wanting exact proof of that exact statistic and not paying any attention to the many studies given to you that prove that men are in fact a danger to women.

And it goes on,

Then you wonder why we become exasperated with you.

Weetabixandshreddies · 29/11/2018 21:12

Materialist

It comes over like that because on threads like these you usually only have one dissenting voice trying to argue against a volley of personal attacks or demands for any number of different questions being asked.

How can I actually state my view on anything when everyone is demanding that I answer their question or google this or say that?

Feminist4 · 29/11/2018 21:13

What do you call people with breasts old crone? I call them women

Calvinsmam · 29/11/2018 21:13

Men have breasts
