Looks like some of the unpleasant Lewisham Momentum based chums of LM have had a big spat with a housemate.

Apparently this now has something to do with LM and them supporting her for woman's officer, and they are blaming Te*fs.

Okay hands up... which mumsnetter has been breaking and entering in Lewisham. Come on own up.

This latest drama has been brought to you by Dr Haddock and the over sensitive flowers!

If Lily hadn't got the credibility from having been in that role, it would all have less impact.

And sorry, just to add on this, the role doesn't usually wield any real power or influence. CLPs themselves wield very little influence, never mind a single role holder of women's officer. It's not right of the Party to have allowed the rules to allow Lily to be women's officer, but I think the influence has come from her social media following rather than from the role itself, if that makes sense.

hipsterfun · 12/11/2018 12:15

I’m under no illusions about some of our ‘mature’ political adults, btw Grin

Lysistrataknowsherstuff · 12/11/2018 12:16

If any DPOs are out there and fancy a challenging job, the Labour Party are looking for one - imagine trying to inform all these youngsters that they can't just gather people's personal data from the LP databases and use it for their own ends.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 12/11/2018 12:19

Thanks LangCleg.
That's a very interesting article. Much of it is perfectly sensible - and then it makes some mad leaps.

Saying 'this group tends to get discriminated against in employment' and then jumping from that to 'and therefore they are all by definition working class' is bizarre. By the same logic women would be working class. And BME people.

TakeHands8 · 12/11/2018 12:19

What these young people are doing, and probably need to be allowed to do, is some sort of learning through play.

I was never involved in student politics when I was at uni because I was too pissed all the time but I always thought that's what it was there for, so that young people who fancied themselves being taken seriously as politicians could practise a bit beforehand.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 12/11/2018 12:19

TakeHands8 I don't know much about party politics, and just speak as someone who would hope to have an alternative to Tories to vote for at next election; the fact that what appears to be an unbalanced young person is being apparently given far too much power, and an official/womens' officer is sacked on her say-so - it makes the Labour party look half sinister and half ridiculous. And this isn't the first sacking is it?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 12/11/2018 12:21

'but I think the influence has come from her social media following rather than from the role itself, if that makes sense'

It does and I do see what you mean, but I don't believe Lily would have had the social media following without the role.

hipsterfun · 12/11/2018 12:22

And a bit of cheerleading from Magic Grandad.

TakeHands8 · 12/11/2018 12:28

It does look like that, Scrimshaw, and most of us in the Party are baffled by it too, but in reality Lily Madigan hasn't got a single drop of power within the Labour Party. Absolutely none.

On this occasion it appears that the Young Scottish Labour committee have got rid of Morgan on Lily's say-so, and Morgan should report it to their regional Labour Party, because Young Scottish Labour cannot just decide to make that decision.

I think this is a case of kids not understanding the rules, and so making up their own, and Lily's power over them has come from being a 'celebrity', not because she holds any position of power in the Labour Party. The Young Scotland Labour group holds no power either.

I don't know about any other sackings, but that's not to say they haven't happened.

BlardyBlar · 12/11/2018 12:29

So.... can I check if I have this straight.

There was a bit of a messy party and someone scribbled something on the wall that might have implied Mumsnet witches were to blame.

OJ and another journalist I haven’t heard of we’re so excited about the potential hag-burning that the fanned the flames of Twitter publicity.

And the Mumsnet Tooting Popular Front’s response is, “It wasn’t us. We would be ashamed to have held a party that didn’t involve really, really proper shenanigans.”

Do I have the summary of the important points here?

BlardyBlar · 12/11/2018 12:31

Oh and Mumsnet May shortly gain a new user called Morgan Horn.

Missed that, and the fact that were somehow autocorrected to we’re...

breastfeedingclownfish · 12/11/2018 12:32

What these young people are doing, and probably need to be allowed to do, is some sort of learning through play.

Student politics is vicious. Nothing really surprises me here. Lily Madigan gets far too much attention but to be fair, is very adept at capitalising on that.

And we probably contibute to it by posting about LM, who as a mediocre middle class kid, really does nothing to deserve the interest

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 12/11/2018 12:35

TakeHands, having taken your point about Lily not having any power over Labour - what about Labour having power over Lily?
Given the women who have been disciplined or kicked out for saying transwomen are men, could Labour not kick Lily out for defaming other members or even for spouting utter bollocks about all transwomen being working class?

BreakWindandFire · 12/11/2018 12:40

I quick trawl through Twitter shows that TRAs have been gunning for Morgan Horn since at least July as they perceive her as Swerf/terf.

This has bugger all to do with drunken student shenanigans, and everything to do with TRAs attacking GC women.

KatVonGulag · 12/11/2018 12:43

freezerbird
I'm totally with you. Ric certainly fits the bill.

I'm thinking they foresaw this whole batshittery with their number one smash hit "living doll" 🤣

Cherchez la femme- then burn the witch!

Extraordinary behaviour from all concerned. The sacking of Morgan couldn’t have been more of a kangaroo court if it had actually happened in a marsupial’s pouch. Go get ‘em Morgan!

OrchidInTheSun · 12/11/2018 12:47

They are behaving absolutely appallingly. Gulag indeed.

TattiusTeddius · 12/11/2018 12:48

I can't stop laughing at the scrawling in pencil on the wall. It makes me sad that the youth of today look at us old buggers as uncool, fucking snowflakes wouldn't last 2 minutes at a 90's Uni party!

Then they all run off to the Labour Party HQ screeching, 'well Ze started it'

🤣🤣 you have to pity the poor sod in Labour who has to deal with the toddler tantrums

TakeHands8 · 12/11/2018 12:50

I don't work for the Party so I don't know with 100% certainty what they'd do, but I cannot imagine they'd kick someone out for making a ridiculous claim that all transwomen are working class (and on a personal note I wouldn't want them to be. I'm working class, and it's plainly ridiculous and would be met with a role of the eyes from most people who haven't completely lost the plot, I would imagine.)

The allegations about Morgan Horn which are all over Twitter are different though. I don't know what Labour HQ would say or will do, but I don't think they'd be able to ignore it. If Morgan Horn makes a complaint, then I imagine it would be investigated. Things like this are investigated by the paid Labour Party staff though so I'm not sure of the process like I am for the political side of things.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 12/11/2018 13:01

LM's unsubstantiated claims are being retweeted by Corbyn's preeminent journalist fan. If the labour party let things like this just go it is not a good look.

Arkengarthdale · 12/11/2018 13:02

Oh god Cliff's hair! ShockGrin

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 12/11/2018 13:03

What about for bringing the Party into disrepute? Every company & organisation nowadays has social media guidelines for that. Lily's Twitter account is used to bully people, to denounce anyone Lily considers a TERF, to make Islamophobic & anti-Semitic comments (any Muslim & Jewish women objecting to sharing space with transwomen must be "educated" and on occasion to beg for money for clothes, pizza and drinks. And now to relay the details of a ridiculous spat between students and gloat that someone Lily dislikes has been sacked.

Whatever power Lily does or doesn't have, this Twitter account is doing Labour no favours whatsoever. I think a lot of us suspect that Lily is being allowed to carry on because nobody dares risk being labelled a transphobe, so they all quietly look the other way.

slug · 12/11/2018 13:17

Late to the party but....

A friend of mine told me about her Christmas present from her 17year old son this year. A smashed toilet.

It transpires while she and her DH were away for a weekend her children had a party. The toilet, several wall panels and a few windows were the casualties. The son and his friends replaced the broken objects and even did a bit of light repainting before the parents returned. They never noticed, until the aforementioned broken toilet was presented on Christmas morning all done up in a big red bow.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 12/11/2018 13:19

That's impressively competent for a 17 year old, Slug.
