This is what is happening - the original GRA was snuck in under everyone's radar. The proposed extension - which starts with the premise that it should become easier to obtain an GRC was intended to be the same. It's hard to understand, takes ages to fill out , and there has been no publicity or support from the Govt for women to do so. It was effectively meant to be none of our business.

No wonder many of us will be starting to wear Suffragette colours. This is political disenfranchisement of women.

Each time I read one of these articles I think it is great, and getting stronger, but the comments are really heartening and usually overwhelmingly supportive. Love they brought Ocado into it.

The only thing I take issue with is this attempt to separate transactivists from transgender individuals. When in my experience the most dangerous transactivists have been incredibly entitled trans identified males. And I think that younger trans people in queer spaces both irl and online are constantly having their egos stroked in a way that further breeds an entitled way of thinking. I think there are many trans people who aren't so loud and pushing for such crazy ideas, but at the same time...they will do nothing to criticize the individuals in their community who are. Instead the mess is being left to women like us to deal with.

Still, I do feel for the transwomen of a different era who understand that their sex has meaning and is unchangeable. Because I think when shit really hits the fan and the backlash is in full swing they are going to be the ones who really get hurt. How much support will they have when the transactivists have managed to piss off so many of their previous allies with their extreme beliefs...

And yes, this is a sign that the tide is turning, which unfortunately means that we can anticipate TRAs lashing out even more than usual as the narcissistic injury descends.

Yes. That occurs to me too. Watching IW distance herself from others simply because IW had a shedload of surgery and therefore 'passes' about as much as is possible. A YET uses their platform as a way to talk only about IW and to make women feel sorry for her. When IW could be calling out TRAs.

I think this is a natural point on the slopes of peak trans. Lucy is trying to be nice to the “true-trans” concept and is still applying the poor gender dysphorics idea. Whether that’s an editorial position or her stance, I don’t know, but this is a one way street. We all go through the stages and end up in a position where if we wrote what we think MN would ban us (though if we said the same on any other subject it would be fine).

Oh my, you can hear the fury behind those words when Lucy typed that. to her.

Great article, short and to the point. Those on power are to blame for this mess for giving in to narcissists, who are just doing what narcissists do.

The fact that the powerful didn't think once about women's rights is what's distressing: they just gave them away without hesitation. The best you can say is they don't care about women and forgot us, but it does look a lot like it was deliberate.

I'm hoping they will have time to pull back from this before they make any changes to the law, it's going to be even harder if they put the changes through and have to repeal them. And the backlash will be greater, and the rift between the politicians and the public greater.

Yes, this exactly Sweary. I have nothing but compassion and kindness for most of the individuals swept up in 'transgenderism' (the exception being those most voceriferous of AGP males), but I am utterly opposed to the ideology itself.

Also I know I've said this a hundred time - there is something rotten, and it's not in Denmark it's in Leeds. Extraordinary concentration of incredibly fucked up, woman hating, child endangering stuff centered around that city and region. It needs looking into (not by the West Yorkshire police, who I wouldn't trust to run a church raffle).

Agree - my eyebrows rose when I read This behaviour is an insult to trans people. Well it isn't. Anyone who even glances at twitter threads can see the thousands of trans people piling on to crush any critical thought.

I can see why the writer says it - a desperate attempt to 'be fair'. We need to be fair to women.
