What is different about the trans issue which stops them from speaking out?

I've been wondering this. I would guess the scale of it. Remember when Millwall Football Club cancelled Venice's meeting after intense and prolonged harassment and intimidation? Their spokesperson said they'd never seen anything like it. I imagine any MP who speaks out can expect the same. And they'd also feel isolated, given that all seven of the major political parties in the UK support gender self-ID, along with almost all the trade unions.

I tell you what. It hugely increases my admiration for David Davies, the only MP out of 650 who has the guts to stand up and be counted.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 01/10/2018 19:50

I think they are talking about it more. My male Tory MP is very beige, very much a coaster, and he completely ignored my first two emails between October and March. Then all of a sudden in late June he emailed out of the blue and we exchanged several mails about the GRC. He didn't give much away but said he could see my point, it was a fair one and he'd see my views were represented. More telling to me: something had suddenly got him to get my emails out, re read them and engage.

MipMipMip · 01/10/2018 20:45

Just wanted to thank everyone who stood up for me with Rat. I'm sorry it was necessary but it was appreciated. For the record, my post wasn't intended to be goady. But Rat's reaction to various posts after mine has made it clear that this is not someone I see any point engaging with. Any one know if there's a hide poster option?

I feel rather as if teacher has patted me on the head. Hmm

I wonder if we could get Jeremy Kyle into parliament and question the TWAW chanting MPs prior to a lie detector test.

Please. Pretty pretty please.

BigChocFrenzy · 01/10/2018 21:20

Sorry, I know the thread's moved on, but I just read

"The moment you mention safeguarding for children, you expose yourself as a bigot"

That statement should be emblazoned across Mumsnet

I keep thinking I've had my peak trans moment, then another bloody mountain flattens me.
How the hell do these perverted lunatics retain any supporters whatsoever ?

RatRolyPoly · 01/10/2018 21:20

You're rude and goady to me Mip and you're the victim?? Darvo.

BigChocFrenzy · 01/10/2018 21:23

I also draw a distinction between the very rare transwomen I heard of back in the 1970s, who quietly got on with their lives and harmed noone,
and the aggressively misogynist, sometimes violent, TRAs - who now vastly outnumber them

PurpleCrowbar · 01/10/2018 21:27

I think we all saw where the 'rude & goady' was happening rat. Nice try mate.

7Days · 01/10/2018 21:41

Strange, isn't it.
I would have thought that, what with all the fuss about the alleged rings of high level paedophiles, which has since died down, that Westminster would be very keen on being seen to be sh it hot on safeguarding and protection.

HamletsSister · 01/10/2018 21:47

I too have had a reply from my MP after months of either no reply or an illiterate brush off from an assistant.

Maybe they are beginning to see the public feeling about this.

TerfedOff · 01/10/2018 21:50

I am amazed that no Tories are running with this to be honest. They're never going to get the vote of the work crowd anyway so I'm not sure why they're bothering pretending that they care at all about the rights of transgender people. But they're supposed to be all about Family Values? Surely that's why people vote for them.

TerfedOff · 01/10/2018 21:50

Woke crowd

Floisme · 01/10/2018 22:03

It was a good post Mip. You'd obviously put a lot of time and thought into it and how anyone can read it and still claim you were the one being goady is totally beyond me.

MipMipMip · 01/10/2018 22:16

Thank you Flo. However I think it's derailing the thread a bit so back to the excellent article. Smile

ohello · 02/10/2018 15:59

I'm not "supporting" the ideology as such, I have no particular insight into it. I'm supporting tolerating it, as far as can be accommodated.

Sorry Rat I'm a bit confused... What exactly is it that you need women to "tolerate"?

Don't trans already have protections against discrimination in employment, education and housing? Since that's already taken care of, then whatever else could you need women to "tolerate"?

Penises in the women's showers at the community pool perhaps? Or during a sleep-over for Girl Guides maybe? How very odd to assume that male bodied people have the right to push penises onto women without their consent, particularly after so many women have said NO quite clearly. One could be forgiven for noticing that a total disregard of women's sexual boundaries is what abusers do.

Surely not, right? Surely you wouldn't be so uncouth. So what exactly is it that you want women to "tolerate"?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/10/2018 16:06

I asked that already ohello Rat's reply focused on some other words!

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 02/10/2018 17:11

Any one know if there's a hide poster option?

No, there isn't. I just scroll by certain posters, my philosophy being "don't get in the mud with a pig; you'll only get dirty and the pig will enjoy it".

CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/10/2018 17:27

I have told Rat, a few times, that I sometimes enjoy the endless supposed sophistry and ridiculously convoluted and/or disingenuous nature of their posts.

When I have plenty of tedious reports to complete, I don't mind getting pigging dirty!

Sometimes such endlessly circular discussions can help explore a number of issues that get sidelined. Others help Peak lurkers.

All of that and I really don't want to No Platform anyone!

ohello · 02/10/2018 18:44

I'm seriously wondering what hold these guys have, that no one is seeing an openly GC stance as a vote winner.

Very much this not sure if there is a thread speculating about that, so as to not derail this one? There's just no way any of this could have progressed as far as it has, without some serious bribery, blackmail plus EXTREME misogyny corrupting at least a few key players. Which cynical old fart politician is truly this naive? You don't get to be a career politician by being clueless they only play at clueless when backed into a corner.

Btw, I am new here but have been lurking and reading and learning ferociously! Thank you to all the brave and stunning gc women!

ChrysanthemumsAreMums · 02/10/2018 18:47

It's like a game of PONG on here when Rat's around:

RepealtheGRA · 02/10/2018 18:54

My suspicion is that once Brexit is out the way TM will be ousted with a couple of other scapegoats, the new leadership will have always been TWAM and the red tops will beat the left to death with the self ID fiasco.

pennydrew · 02/10/2018 18:58

I’m quite new to MN but I’m seeing the same person deliberately goading and arguing on many threads.

TerfedOff · 02/10/2018 19:01

There's 1 or 2 usual ones.

They stand out.

MipMipMip · 02/10/2018 20:42

Best to ignore. There's so many wonderful posters on here so you won't be short of intelligent comments to read.

On that note: thank you. I have learnt so much from the posters here, I've lost track of how long I've been on FWR but I genuinely think I have developed as a person by being exposed to such well reasoned and compassionate arguments. I don't agree with them all but I understand the viewpoints (well most!) and the wide range of subjects and situations, many of which I have not come across before, (not just trans connected) have been so well explained that I feel I can empathise so much better.

I won't name names as there are a lot on here so I'd probably miss some one by accident but please ladies, preen. And if you think it isn't you because you're not a good writer then there's a good chance you're wrong. I've seen very few posts on here that aren't filled with passion that was very clear and influential.

Thank you.

StrangeLookingParasite · 10/10/2018 08:32

Sorry chiming in late (I've had this thread open for several days), but

You're rude and goady to me Mip

Really? What nonsense.
