Aimee Challenor welcomed into the Lib Dems

Just for quick context, Aimee Challenor resigned from the Lib Dems under a cloud of shit, after Aimee's father was charged for raping a 10-year-old-girl while dressed in a nappy, and Aimee continued to employ him as an agent.

So there is currently an investigation by Veritas into what happened, this has not been completed, but already welcomed with open arms into the Lib Dems.

Sickening.

Was looking for something else but stumbled on the Lib Dem LGBT+ group homepage which notes that elections to the committee take place in the autumn. Anyone want to take a bet that Aimee will be on that commitee by the new year?

Milander · 02/10/2018 22:49

My aunt is chair of her local party and a long time feminist activist. I just showed her/explained the background to this thread, she is absolutely livid. She had not understood how extreme the party had become - and the silencing of women, well she is furious.

Brian Paddick's forced (?) resignation and threatened disciplinary measures following his decision to meet people who were gender critical including WPUK members:

People need to start stirring the local LD parties over this.

If you are a member you have a better in to do this.

If you are a none member you can still stir the shit with local councillors or the local party.

The local network is very different to the executive bodies. Done right it could unleash a right hornets nest.

It depends on where you live. Cambridge just don't bother. South Manchester I think a mixed bag - lots of loopies, so a question of being careful but I'm sure plenty of grassroots members who frankly just haven't thought about it in the efforts to be "nice" whilst they live in their middle class bubble.

Take it off line. Go retro. Talk to people, write to people. Email people. The online groups are clearly patrolled.

But I do think there is lots of room to make the party start to take notice. There are plenty of other places across the country where this can be stirred.

As I say, it's about getting the grassroots members away of what lunacy the main party have been up to.

The grassroots will Not like how women have been kicked out the party and how the LGBT lds have been trying to get academics sacked.

The LD network is small but not as small and cliquey as the Green one. And because they have a chance of being elected need to listen in a way the Greens don't.

bitheby · 03/10/2018 09:11

Oh no! I despair. I really do. I'm going to have to speak out.

KittyKlawsReturns · 03/10/2018 09:58

I'll admit I don't know much about Shahrar Ali but a quick look over his Twitter feed shows a distinct interest in traditionally Green issues which, in my mind, makes him a far more suitable candidate than AC who I don't like - not because they are trans but because they are a self-centered dickhead.

arranfan · 03/10/2018 10:03

I'll admit I don't know much about Shahrar Ali

I'm impressed by Ali. He had the courage to tweet someone's version of the Victim Support Statement that he feels the Green Party should have put out after David Challenor's conviction rather than the one that they day (later deleted but it was all about minimising DC's crimes and declaring their intention to stand by AC and her family). It probably cost Ali votes.

FekkoTheLawyer · 03/10/2018 11:10

I don't think it will. People seem to be getting fed up with the toddler tantrums and are beginning to stop humouring the children.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 03/10/2018 13:29

Great quote at the end of the article:

Challenor told the Guardian in June that she became involved in politics towards the end of the 2010-2015 coalition government: “That threw out the Conservatives and the Lib Dems for me because of tuition fees, austerity and a lack of action on climate change. I looked at other manifestos and the Greens’ stood out. I agreed with all of it.”

So much for having principles, eh, Challoner?

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 03/10/2018 13:35

From that article: in a statement to this site, the Global Greens said Ms Challenor’s roles would shortly ‘transition to a new person’.

No issue there. Aimee just needs to ID as another person.

FekkoTheLawyer · 03/10/2018 14:09

Might self if as Mary from Stockdale.

BesmirchingMotherhood · 03/10/2018 14:25

As I’ve made this move on a weekend, inquiries will continue from my team on Monday in regards to my membership of the Green Party of Northern Ireland.

Her ‘team’.

When I joined the LDs I didn’t have a ‘team’. I’m thinking Aimee is not joining the LDs like other people join the LDs.

BiologyMatters · 03/10/2018 14:26

In that article it says Ali is being investigated for transphobic bullying. Criticising someone for their actions is not inherently transphobic. If my boss tells me I've made a mistake at work he's not necessarily being sexist.

Needmoresleep · 03/10/2018 14:29

I cant help feeling sorry for a rudderless Aimee.

My advice to her (waves if she is reading) would be to step back from politics and get her education and career sorted first. Politics should not be a career in itself. She is young, only just 21, and seems to have a talent for IT. Go to University, possibly via a foundation course. Work hard, stay away from student politics, Twitter and dodgy furry websites and away from the reach and influence of your family. Join some University societies and make some straghtforward, grounded friends. Find out who she is and learn to like herself. Read the moving recent interview with Fred West's daughter, who eventually asked for and received help from Victim Support and has gone on to make a decent life for herself including supporting her younger siblings. I suspect many of the people Aimee currently considers her friends, wont be there when the tide turns. But many of them will have been using her as a useful 'yoof' representative, and never had her best interests at heart.

The LibDems are absolutely right to review her application, and at most only allow a passive role. Otherwise they are as guilty of exploitation as the rest.

-Saw this- the “#inplausibledeniability” was the part of his tweet that stood out the most. He is pulling absolutely no punches there.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 03/10/2018 14:41

AC is a student with the OU. I think that's a pity. The OU does wonderful work but a young person would do better to go to a traditional university and mix with other students.

Carrrotsandcauliflower · 03/10/2018 14:42

Well after reading that if they can review aimee’s membership and still admit them, we know they are completely mental and think that what she did was fine. 😬

welshbookworm · 03/10/2018 15:20

I commented on that thread and have since been told that Aimee's application is on hold pending investigation by the LibDems.

Molokonono · 03/10/2018 15:44

Interestingly enough, Miranda Yardley has just posted images confirming that AC has asked twitter how to get into Miranda's account, as it is behaving badly again.

So AC used the 'forgotten password' technique to try and hack Miranda's account, it didn't work properly and so is asking someone at twitter support how to hack it. Again.

Erm...if someone can get images as my phone isn't playing ball today.

FekkoTheLawyer · 03/10/2018 16:05

Oh look it's Donna B! thought I'd not seen them around here for a while.

dolorsit · 03/10/2018 16:18

Isn't that just really dim?

dolorsit · 03/10/2018 16:19

Some interesting comments on the left foot forward blog. It will be interesting to see if they are left to stand.

FekkoTheLawyer · 03/10/2018 16:29

Maybe over here? I heard that Pen had told stonewa' (no ls please) that the GRA was happening.
