What peak transed you

I know this has probably been done to death, not sure if there is another thread somewhere, but briefly, what was it that peak transed you? I don't mean long philosophical essays, but was there something or a specific incident which suddenly made that lightbulb switch on?

OP posts:
HamiltonCork · 29/09/2018 19:01

Caitlin Jenner - "the most difficult thing about being a woman is deciding what to wear".

happydappy2 · 29/09/2018 19:02

When I came across some of the sickos on twitter who claim to be trans, but clearly aren’t, yet demand access to women’s spaces. Coz they are a woman.
The aggression & disrespect for women pushed me over the edge.

whathaveiforgottentoday · 29/09/2018 19:04

Initially the sports issue

TwistedStitch · 29/09/2018 19:07

This article which was replicated on Crimewatch and in other papers.

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.belpernews.co.uk/news/missing-woman-dressed-as-man-seen-in-dronfield-1-7873949/amp

This is a man, a convicted rapist who was on the run. But respecting his gender identity was more important than clear, factual information that could help to apprehend a dangerous criminal. So we ended up with this shit show- woman who may be dressed as a man ( as clearly hoodie and trousers are men's clothes, I apparently cross dressed today). Would be funny if we weren't talking about a violent serial sex offender.

PositivelyPERF · 29/09/2018 19:07

The realisation that a Trans identifying man, that putting photos on Mumsnet, asking how he looked, was a AGP. Good grief! I was so innocent and couldn’t understand why some of the other posters were such ‘transphobes’. I’m cringing, thinking about it.

SophoclesTheFox · 29/09/2018 19:08

Me too, hamilton. Prior to that, I had been completely, unthinkingly pro-trans. I would scold people for their "transphobia" and think myself very fine indeed for being such a champion of diversity.

Then I watched a former Olympic decathlon champion be given an award for women and said "hang on, there was not then, and is not even now a women's decathlon event, what fuckery is this?".

Then Caitlyn made the remarks about getting dressed and all I could hear was the resounding clanging noise of scales dropping from my eyes Grin. No way back.

RiverTam · 29/09/2018 19:08

International Olympic Committee deciding that all that’s needed to complete against women is one year ‘living as a woman’ and testosterone down to a level that’s still 3 times more than a woman will have.

FlippinFumin · 29/09/2018 19:09

Firstly Jenner getting woman of the year in OUR centenary year. Then I went stratospheric with the cotton ceiling. I just keep fuming about every new appropropriation. But worse they appropriate the things we can no longer name.

mimivanne · 29/09/2018 19:11

Labour Party appointing L.Madigan as Womens Officer.
Resigned from LP the following day

Opheliah · 29/09/2018 19:14

I never peak transed. As a sex worker since a young woman, we have always had women described as women, post op trans women described as transsexuals, and chicks with a dick described as such.
If a "woman" described as a woman was sent out on a job but it turned out they either a) had a dick or b) had an inverted dick all hell would break lose. The worker would be at extreme risk.

We all know what a woman is. It's beyond me that TWAW has gained any traction at all.

lydiamajora · 29/09/2018 19:14

Caitlyn for me, too, though mine was more about the fact that no one could give me a good explanation of why Caitlyn Jenner is a woman but Rachel Dolezal isn't black. That really made me stop and actually think through all of the niggling thoughts I had been studiously pretending not to notice.

After that, it was one thing after another after another after another...

VickyEadie · 29/09/2018 19:14

Jenner. Cotton ceiling. Labour and its women's officers, etc.

joystir59 · 29/09/2018 19:18

The idea that a man can call himself a woman and a lesbian.

hellandhairnets · 29/09/2018 19:22

Gradual climb. CJ as woman of the year. A weird conversation when I asked a TRA "but how did you know you were really a woman" and was told something hideously stereotypical about liking pink toys, playing with dolls and "softness". Also informed that no difference whatsoever between onset of periods in teenage girls and taking female hormones in adulthood Hmm. Rounded on by wokemaidens for even questioning this.

Dug further in pursuit of "am I going mad, surely other people are seeing what I'm seeing, as in, blatant misogyny and weirdness and a distinctly unsettling feeling of my own life experiences being appropriated?"

Discovered - well, all this. That such things are all apparently standard right-on belief these days. Then cotton ceiling. Then crazy TRA reverse-speak on Twitter and elsewhere and the lies and obvious manipulation tactics and hate for women and thought - erm, this looks just like narcissistic abuse and coercion. Oh! And so it turned out to be.

SmallBee · 29/09/2018 19:22

Rachel Dozel. It made me realise I genuinely don't understand the difference between the two and no one could explain it. At all.

RandomlyChosenName · 29/09/2018 19:24

Reading the argument that a woman is anyone who feels like a woman, so what does a woman feel like? And the slow realisation that, as someone who isn't interested in makeup, handbags and dresses, the only thing that makes a woman a woman is biology. Otherwise I am not a woman, which makes no sense as I am.

MissCheevious · 29/09/2018 19:24

The phrase 'lady dick'

NopeNi · 29/09/2018 19:25

I can't remember what made me come over from the "oh just be nice and live and let live" side, it was a culmination of things and mostly the lack of logic.

  • the idea of male and female brains, of innate sex knowledge, like some religious belief
  • the illogic of the phrase "transwomen are women"
  • the entrenching of gender stereotypes
  • the lack of definitions around "trans", their attitude to "truscum"
  • the contradictions (like "transwomen have always been in women's spaces and have always passed and there's never been a problem" - but also "they're the most victimised group in society and all laws all need to be changed because they're hated and bullied so much")
  • the fake suicide statistics which have been swallowed by everyone and reported by everyone
  • the way that any studies are banned
  • any discussions are banned
  • women's sports, scholarships, refuges, political positions, lesbianism, all gone or under attack

Incredible times.

XXaghast · 29/09/2018 19:27

Jenner then Huntly

XXaghast · 29/09/2018 19:29

and specifically it was Jenner's speech on receiving the Woman of the Year award, what a fucking insult

KipperTheFrog · 29/09/2018 19:31

Seeing photos of "women" with full beards etc. The phrase "lady dick" and lesbians being called bigots for not wanting to have sex with a "lady dick"
I lurk on here a lot and have learnt so much from the wonderful women here.

happydappy2 · 29/09/2018 19:31

Also reading about James/Jennifer Pritzker, Martine/Martin Rathblatt, both mature transwomen who amassed their wealth while Male, had children then transitioned, have huge interests in pharmaceutical companies & are totally pushing this agenda, so people become lifelong medical patients needing surgery, hormones, implants etc etc. This is not a grass roots movement. I liken it to when we sent cigarettes to the troops to keep their morale up, before we knew how poisonous they were.

MissTrinket · 29/09/2018 19:31

When Jenner was transitioning I thought, "It'll be hairstylists, make up artists, fabulous clothes - why not; it's no skin off my shapely nose. Obviously, we knows she's not a woman, she knows she's not a woman, but I'm OK with pretending she is."
Then - Woman of the Year, and the incredulous, creeping horror of realising that not only does Jenner consider herself a woman - so do all the people who voted for her.
The earth moved for me then, and I'm still trying to find my feet.

Anlaf · 29/09/2018 19:31

no platforming of Germaine Greer

I was unbothered by Jenner winning the woman's award.

Uncomfortable at cheerleading on Jezebel.com of kids who wanted to medically transition.

But when they tried to stop Germaine speaking it was hold on a fucking minute

AyeRobot · 29/09/2018 19:32

Dittany and Kim on here.
