What peak transed you

I know this has probably been done to death, not sure if there is another thread somewhere, but briefly, what was it that peak transed you? I don't mean long philosophical essays, but was there something or a specific incident which suddenly made that lightbulb switch on?

OP posts:

Alex Drummond - "broadening the bandwidth of what it means to be a woman"

GET. TO. FUCK

TransposersArePosers · 29/09/2018 19:33

TwistedStitch The woman (who may be masquerading as a man) stance of Crimewatch regarding Hauxwell did it for me, too. I just couldn't believe my eyes.

Swim England got my interest on here and from then on in, I mostly read the feminist chat boards (was always chat and AIBU before)

The everyday misogyny everywhere is so shocking and yet my woke / naive niece thinks that man can identify as women and be lesbians. She has no idea what she is allowing to be taken from her.

ecosomething · 29/09/2018 19:34

Never peak transed. I have always found the concept of guys being women impossible to believe and highly patronising. For ages the only critiques I saw were from a christian right family values perspective. But then Julie Bindel had her controversial but groundbreaking guardian article published and bingo I was on board with it from day one.

Anlaf · 29/09/2018 19:34

actually - the prisons thing on here stopped me in my tracks. I couldn't explain why it was actually ok to include a male-bodied offender in a woman's prison.

tbh I'd spared little thought for women in prison before then. Was a good, if cognitively dissonant, lib fem

feesh · 29/09/2018 19:35

That bloke from Credit Suisse winning a women’s business award

Anlaf · 29/09/2018 19:37

ah pips bunce. Has done a fair bit for feminism, Pips has but not the way pips thinks

dementedma · 29/09/2018 19:38

trans women are women. No they aren't, they are transwomen
some women have penises. No they don't. men have penises.

the whole encroachment into womens' spaces by men claiming to be women.

Greenfliesarenice · 29/09/2018 19:41

Claire Darbyshire killing their father. After seeing the mugshot I was so astounded that they were described as the daughter I started googling to see if anyone else had noticed an issue. Stumbled onto Mumsnet feminist board and the rest is history.

TeenTimesTwo · 29/09/2018 19:42

Girl Guides and the Hampstead swimming ponds.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/09/2018 19:42

I have never believed that TWAW, but what really pissed me off was the realisation that actually I was required to believe unquestioningly or be a horrible bigot.

InfiniteCurve · 29/09/2018 19:45

Many things, but my stand out moment of sadness was the fuss around the first woman to be a frontline soldier in the British Army.
This is a person who was already in a frontline regiment having enlisted as a man and then transitioned,
It just made me so sad. And the army got to be all right on, hey look at us, we have s woman in this role now.
Just Sad

borntobequiet · 29/09/2018 19:47

The idea of no debate.
This is a cult concept.

HermioneWeasley · 29/09/2018 19:49

Germaine Greer being no platformed for saying that trans women aren’t the same as women. I was puzzled because despite considering myself a good trans ally, I’d never come across the claim that TW are literally the same as women before.

Since then it’s being continuous peaking!

SPOFS · 29/09/2018 19:49

Caitlyn Jenner winning "woman of the year" Angry

heresyandwitchcraft · 29/09/2018 19:51

The media including Jenner got me thinking about this, and spurred my interest in finding our more & deep reflection. Then saw the slur T*RF and the abuse hurled at women who had similar concerns as me. The wholesale biology denial. Danielle Muscato. The cotton ceiling. The fact that nobody could ever explain WHY "trans women are women" in any kind of satisfactory, logical, coherent way.
Thanks to Magdalen Berns, Feminist Current, gender-critical Twitter, Rebecca Reilly-Cooper and Janice Turner I at least kept some sense that I wasn't just going completely insane.
Found MN very late, but it felt like coming home.

KaiserThiefs · 29/09/2018 19:52

I was the usual ' be nice, poor things, they're harmless then I heard that tramadol an were able to legally change their birth certificate and I thought, "yeah, but we all know they're not real women so go is this allowed? It's not right" but at the time it was just a few people so my female socialization kicked in.

I've tried to find the thread on MN that peaktransed me but it's been lost in deletions, it was years ago and mentioned that someone had heard that in a woman's meeting in New York a trans women attended and she complained that the topic they were talking about excluded her and her 'woman's experiences.

I know the peaks were bigger and more shocking from there on 8n but that was the moment that I realised that there was no gratitude, no understanding that they were in our spaces as a favour. They thought it their right.

Wrong.

Elemental · 29/09/2018 19:54

This news story - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-37391807

I was baffled - calling them the first transwoman fine but I couldn’t understand why he was suddenly the first actual woman because he’d taken hormones for the grand total of one month. And realising suddenly the number of “firsts” that would bypass actual women in areas where they still weren’t allowed to be.

KaiserThiefs · 29/09/2018 19:55

Ahem transwomen not tramadol! And HOW was this allowed not go!

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 29/09/2018 19:59

Lot's of little things.

Lots of them.

PhannyMcNee · 29/09/2018 20:00

CBB. The behaviour and attitude of India Willoughby compared to that of Courtney/Shane peaked me.

To be fair, I was probably at the Hillary Step stage anyway but that CBB in 'The Year of The Woman' got me to the peak.

deepwatersolo · 29/09/2018 20:00

The silencing and denounciation of Prof. Zucker and Prof. Blanchard and pretty much any scientist or study, without any counter argument but absurd hysterics, finished off by (self described autogynephile) scientist Anne Lawrence‘s Account of narcissistic rage in autogynephiles.

TheMostBeautifulDogInTheWorld · 29/09/2018 20:02

I don't know yet.

All the while women are under attack, I''ll just keep getting angrier.

lovetherisingsun · 29/09/2018 20:04

The look on the two young girl sprinters faces when they lost out first and second place to BOTH the newly transfered transgirls, who had just come from the youth male sprinting team, to be put on the girls youth sprinting team. The transgirls both won easily ahead of the girls. The girls, who would;ve come first and second, just looked utterly, utterly defeated. They just shrugged as if to say, what's the point? All that training all that year, for what?

lovetherisingsun · 29/09/2018 20:05

Was absolutely gutted for them.

LemonSqueezy0 · 29/09/2018 20:06

The fact that you aren't allowed to discuss it. You're either fully and absolutely on board no questions asked or you're a massive bigot. The fact that you aren't allowed to have a different, middle ground view scared me and made me research it more. Constantly being called TERF fucked me right off and it's all come from there.
