What peak transed you

I know this has probably been done to death, not sure if there is another thread somewhere, but briefly, what was it that peak transed you? I don't mean long philosophical essays, but was there something or a specific incident which suddenly made that lightbulb switch on?

OP posts:

The fact that you aren't allowed to discuss it. You're either fully and absolutely on board no questions asked or you're a massive bigot. The fact that you aren't allowed to have a different, middle ground view scared me and made me research it more.

THIS is what got me.

Ive always considered myself a feminist.
I remember going off Germaine Greer when I read her views on trans issues. I remember telling my mum (old school 60s feminist) how outdated Greer was (I'm sure she rolled her eyes)
I actually really applauded Jenner when she came out. I bought the vogue issue and gathered with my friends to drink wine and watch that big interview.

Learning that a 19 year old won women's officer made me think "eeerm my 3 year old has more experience as a female than this women's officer." I had previously been a women's officer (in another organisation) and spoke with victims after a spate of local rapes. I thought about if I'd feel comfortable talking about a rape with a penis-haver.

What really did it for me was reading FWR on here and realising that, being a woman was being reduced, and being defined by THE WORST gender stereotypes possible. Oh you like dresses and pink and glitter and unicorns? Oh yes you ARE a woman. People think they are being so modern and woke, but they are just peddling the most old fashioned, outdated ideas going.

Bunce winning that award was the final nail in the coffin.

Everything else I've seen since I started to actually look and examine has just blown my mind, (thanks, you lot)

Periods.

I feel so sorry for “ordinary” trans people, who aren’t perverts or misogynists. They are being thrown to the wolves, while the oddballs attack women and girls.

ChilliJamandAvocado · 29/09/2018 20:12

Owen Jones & cunnilingusgate.

The juxtaposition of Jenner & Dolezal.

Tara Hudson getting sent down to a women's jail.

Wish I could remember which issues started to tilt me pre 2015... I know there was the case with Vancouver rape counselling centre being sued for not employing a transwoman & Michfest.

Jamieandwordswo · 29/09/2018 20:15

Walking into a gender neutral changing room (formerly the Ladies) and there being a guy in there with his dick out.

Trinity1976 · 29/09/2018 20:17

An acquaintance of mine who is very liberal and very pro gay rights, started posting a lot of articles related to forthcoming changes to the GRA, from a critical perspective. I started getting a bit interested and watched a video of my acquaintance giving a talk about transwomen in women's sports. Then the whole Aimee Challenor thing kicked off and I became aware of the horrible verbal abuse by TRAs on Twitter towards 'dissenters' and the cotton ceiling thing.

SymphonyofShadows · 29/09/2018 20:17

Caitlyn 'Bruce at the golf club' Jenner

LeftRightCentre · 29/09/2018 20:18

Jenner

And me. And trying to say this on other sites and being censored. Having all my very reasonable comments deleted. I couldn't believe it. I realised if that had happened to me then somewhere there were a lot of other people who had also been censored. And the lack of any criticism was fooling others into thinking everyone was 100% supportive. Yet I knew from speaking to people in the real world that this wasn't true. Felt horrific and Orwellian and panicked me.

This ^^

Those hateful posts on SM, "Enjoy my ladydick in your mouth" for example.

Hints 'n' tips on breaking through the "cotton ceiling". Gross.

vanitythynameisnotwoman · 29/09/2018 20:21

It started after Madigan's election and by the time the LP made their non-statement about AWS I was reading everything on here and via GC feminists on twitter I could get my hands on. Shamefully recently really - I see how people can sleepwalk into a world where the law's changed and they've no idea.

Jamieandwordswo · 29/09/2018 20:21

Sorry, toilet, not changing room.

bluetitsaretits · 29/09/2018 20:22

Was always pro LGBT rights but never believed that TWAW. It was Nixon v Vancouver rape relief that brought this whole shit show to my attention. Since then it's been a tsunami of insanity -it's like no other issue I have ever seen.

McFugget · 29/09/2018 20:23

Enjoy my ladydick in your mouth cuntwipe* even.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 29/09/2018 20:25

Power of the internet, a relativly small group can shut down a lot of discussion across a lot of sites and look like everyone fully supports.

Carrrotsandcauliflower · 29/09/2018 20:28

An online run in with my local Liberal Democrat party Facebook page. I have them to thank for calling me transphobic and making me look into all this. Then I came here. Now I’m on a mission.

catkind · 29/09/2018 20:29

Reading all those trans stories that start "I always knew I was different because I hated football and loved dressing up as a princess".

burblife · 29/09/2018 20:32

LM spouting nonsense and reading about teenagers being given blockers.

I think DH peaked this week when we discussed a man being in the top 100 women in business and the girl guide fiasco.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 29/09/2018 20:34

the girl guide fiasco

I think this has got a few men to take notice and 'click'.

peaktrans · 29/09/2018 20:34

I definitely felt sympathy for so long for anyone "trapped in the wrong body". But it seemed rare & I didn't think it could hurt anyone.

However in the last few weeks with the political climate & MN I've realised the population involved & also how many people are taking advantage. The thought of men in refuges/prisons etc frightens me so much.

The Jenner situation seemed bizarre, I really thought it was for TV as I couldn't understand how someone could only talk about clothes/jewellery when they were making a life changing decision. Not only for Jenner but also the children. I now feel that's not so rare

deepwatersolo · 29/09/2018 20:34

I should add that while the blatant censoring of science Peak transed me, it was Miranda Yardley who then radicalized me, haha.

McWilde · 29/09/2018 20:35

My peak or realisation was at work.
I worked in an role which was predominately staffed by middle aged women, myself included. Lots of old school common sense feminists, for women by women, that sort of thing.
We started to get the new wave of staff in to train up, again all women but younger.
Like other people I'd felt great sympathy for trans people and knew a few and the struggle they faced.

But I never thought that anyone would think they literally changed into the opposite sex.
Anyway, I ended up in an 'airing of views' with the younger members of staff, saying things like obviously men can't go into refuges and go into prisons that's ridiculous. I didn't know anything about Terfs or 'transphobia' at the time, so I kept pushing the point as I thought maybe they aren't understanding what I'm saying. I even called up one of their tutors and bitterly complained that their understanding of safeguarding was severely lacking.
Then of course I read up on it, came across Twitter, and realised we weren't in Kansas anymore.

Theswaggyotter · 29/09/2018 20:35

I remember reading about fallon fox beating the crap out of their opponent then started reading more. But it was discovering that transwomen kept their fully functioning penis that was the the biggest shock. Then the Spartacus thread and everything else is history
