Has anyone seen the mass email sent out this evening? They haven’t acknowledged any concerns put to them. All they have stated that there is no risk and they won’t inform parents of transgender members due to data protection laws.

I've PDF'd mine, so I still have it even if they try to recall it.

Miljah · 25/09/2018 22:00

intherealworld So, your Brownies don't shower together, as I'd imagine they wouldn't.

Do they sleep in the same dorm/tent/cabin together? If there is an adult present in that area overnight, are they male or female? Do the parents know?

But you can bet your sweet fanny Adams they'll be caring as of now.

FlorenceLyons · 25/09/2018 22:09

I haven't received this, despite having two girls in Guides/Rangers. I wonder if it's being sent out in batches? I will definitely be replying...

zeeboo · 25/09/2018 22:13

I was thrilled to receive it! A robust response to transphobia and it means my daughter will grow within her girl guiding journey, in a tolerant and nurturing space where ALL girls are welcome.

SlimDogMillionaire · 25/09/2018 22:16

Transphobia? Talking out of your arse there

averylongtimeago · 25/09/2018 22:16

At a large international camp this summer, held in the grounds of a boarding school, the girls showers were in the school buildings and were the old fashioned one large room with lots of shower nozzles type. Nothing the organisers could do about it - girls took swimming costumes to use.
Leaders male children had separate facilities and if over 8, had to sleep in a separate area.

Guide tents normally sleep between 4 and 8, and I have never seen indoor accommodation with individual bedrooms. Most guide houses just have adult and girl loos and showers, visiting males are directed to the adult ones.

There are strict safeguarding rules. Unless you are a male who identifies as a female.

howlsmovingcastle84 · 25/09/2018 22:16

Girl guiding used to be a place where all girls were welcomed. Now girls who are questioning their gender are being asked to leave...

WLmum · 25/09/2018 22:18

Mines disappeared from both my inbox and my sent box where I forwarded it on...

I was thrilled to receive it! A robust response to transphobia and it means my daughter will grow within her girl guiding journey, in a tolerant and nurturing space where ALL girls and teenage boys are welcome to share sleeping quarters

Fixed that for you.

I think you mean she will be groomed never to say no to males, never to put her own needs first and never to speak her mind.

Noqont · 25/09/2018 22:26

Yep to this.

So glad I took DD out of the guides. I could never trust them with the safety and welfare of my daughter after this.

titchy · 25/09/2018 22:26

in a tolerant and nurturing space where ALL girls are welcome.

Except those questioning their gender identity.... who I believe are more likely than not to have ASD, so it discriminates against those with disabilities too. Yeah sounds like a lovely tolerant organisation....

Redkeyboard · 25/09/2018 22:26

There are strict safeguarding rules. Unless you are a male who identifies as a female.

Or literally any male who just says he identifies as female. So any male prepared to tell a lie to avoid safeguarding rules.

Charliethefeminist · 25/09/2018 22:27

Lol at zeeboo. I mean, just lol.

JillyArmeeen · 25/09/2018 22:31

I was a guide from 10 to 18, I'm really sad and sorry to see them shoot themselves in the foot like this and the way they have treated the leaders is disgusting.
Guiding was such a valuable experience to me, and I credit them in part for the outspoken strong feminist woman I am today.
I'm gutted that such a great organisation has come to this.
I don't have daughters, but if I did I wouldn't be sending them to guides, their usp of being single sex no longer exists and there are other groups clubs and organisations that take safeguarding more seriously.
My son won't be joining the scouts due to their silence about David challenor.

Intherealworld · 25/09/2018 22:36

Whiteroseredrose
Brownies do share a firm but will dress/undress in the bathroom on their own
Male leaders do not share sleeping accommodation or washing facilities with females and do not supervise girls on their own. Female leaders do not share these facilities either unless 2 are present at all times. Basic safeguarding. If I had a transgender child I would be having a 1 to 1 with parent/carer before pack holiday to risk assess on an individual basis. I would then consult with my commissioner for guidance on how to safeguard girls adults and any transgender members.

WokerThanWoke · 25/09/2018 22:39

I have to say, I'm jealous of all your guiding memories. It all sounds quite Enid Blyton/chalet school. Mine was sitting round doing some crafts or occasionally playing games. There wasn't even really an emphasis on getting any badges.

OvaHere · 25/09/2018 22:40

Intherealworld what if your superiors told you that transgirls are female just like any other girl and you must allow them to sleep in shared rooms with the other girls. You also must not inform any parents.

Would you comply?

titchy · 25/09/2018 22:41

Male leaders do not share sleeping accommodation or washing facilities with females and do not supervise girls on their own.

Ones identifying as transwomen could though.

averylongtimeago · 25/09/2018 22:43

But if that male leader is a trans woman?

Mrskeats · 25/09/2018 22:44

Yep so many loopholes

Elletorro · 25/09/2018 22:51

Could someone please forward a copy to Filia?

Milander · 25/09/2018 22:53

Generfluid is trans, so I’m guessing a child who changes their presentation each day (like Pippa/Philip) would be welcome to join?

Milander · 25/09/2018 22:55

Does anyone know if male bodied teenagers can make female bodied teenagers pregnant?
