JK Rowling is being called out on twitter by Owl for liking Janice Turner's fox-in-the-henhouse article.

Many of us have thought for a long while that JKR is on side. I wish she would come out publicly and fully support women.

honestly, how do they find the time to police us all?

Gncq · 13/09/2018 21:10

"Being called out" is such a windup I mean people should be lowed to like a variety of stuff.
She had to publicly apologise and say "it was a mistake" when she liked something using the phrase 'men in dresses'.
These people are obsessed with thought control.

PineappleSunrise · 13/09/2018 21:11

They just like finding women to harass, basically.

Absolutely agree. It's not the first time she's been slated for 'liking' something the TAs disagreed with and I don't believe for a moment she buys into their ideology, she has her head too well screwed on. If she was able to speak out in a calm and kind way it would make a huge difference. Especially to children and young people.

FermatsTheorem · 13/09/2018 21:11

Ah yes, Owl. Half of (I forget which half) a boring white middle class heterosexual couple who want to appropriate other people's oppressed status by pretending that they're oh so special because they favour wearing the frocks/trousers in the relationship in a socially non-conventional way (like anyone else actually cares, and like heterosexual couples haven't been quietly ignoring sexist stereotypes and narrowly-imposed social roles for years, just not making a fuss about it). Deeply tedious, both of them.

I strongly suggest JK simply ignores the silly little tosspot.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 13/09/2018 21:12

I dunno, I realise I'm biased, but I wonder whether they might be overreaching themselves a bit on this one.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/09/2018 21:15

Agreed. Taking these fools seriously is what gives them power. If you're someone with as much cultural clout as Rowling you should wave them away like an irritating little gnat.

Engaging will just encourage them to continue with the asinine "call outs", so don't. They're like Tinkerbell, they only have power if people act like they do.

nauticant · 13/09/2018 21:18

It's not going so well for the authoritarian thought-police this time round:

twitter.com/UglaStefania/status/1040253474330603520

Many people who've read the article seem to find enabling a rapist to assault women contained in a women's prison is something worth criticising.

BarrackerBarmer · 13/09/2018 21:21

I'd rather she funded us, if she doesn't have the courage to speak out.
The TRAs are funded to the tune of millions, billions globally in all likelihood.

Everything GC feminists have achieved has been funded with fivers from hundreds of women who can ill afford it.

The TRAs are gunning for individual women with malicious court cases, knowing that to fund a defence is prohibitive. The chilling effect is huge. Women are scared, not of telling the truth, but of finding themselves in an interview with west yorkshire police and no means to fund a lawyer.

JK let us down badly last time. She KNOWS they are all a bunch of Dolores Umbridge bullies and she capitulated to them, watching us refuse to.

I hope she has found her ovaries of steel, because I do have faith that she is a person of integrity.
and I hope she DOES something to help. Publicly or silently.

Actually that is (another) excellent point Barracker. Chances are Janice is reading this. Perhaps she can suggest it to JKR.

Owl is telling us they are a bird innit? See?
Clever subliminal messaging.

Hmm
newtlover · 13/09/2018 21:32

wow, ageist as well as misogynist
pesky women, getting older, having opinions and being succesful
I agree that JKR is in a position to not give a fuck, what can they do to her? boycott her books? every family I know already has a full set

birdsdestiny · 13/09/2018 21:38

Fuck me. Have people seen what she has liked an hour ago with regards to silencing women and misogynistic agenda. I am useless with regards to posting links but bugger me.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/09/2018 21:40

Every time I see anything from Fox and Owl I get The Owl and the Pussycat stuck in my head. If only they were that benign.

ChattyLion · 13/09/2018 21:41

‘They’ (hard to know how many actual authors this covers, due to stated pronoun preferences, but two people, Fox and Owl have been pictured....) are also promoting their own brand new book for transgender teenagers at the moment.

I’m sure that’s completely unrelated though of course.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/09/2018 21:44

I'm pretty sure their chances of selling as many books as Rowling are about as good as their chances of convincing most people they're not a straight couple.

Iused2BanOptimist · 13/09/2018 21:51

I was very disappointed JK capitulated last time she was called out for liking something the gulag police didn't approve of. FGS when you have half a billion in the bank and millions of followers you really can afford to just ignore the complaints. They get bored and move onto new feeding grounds after a day or two.

GenderApostate · 13/09/2018 21:53

Can you imagine what a £1million or so could do for FPFW / Transgendertrend etc?

A legal fighting fund for Women accused of wrongspeak is sorely needed. TELI are obviously very well funded indeed.

BarrackerBarmer · 13/09/2018 21:56

JK still has the same publicist as in March. I wonder if this time the 'like' will be waved away as a clumsy and middle aged moment again?

Hopefully not.

GulagMilkMonitor · 13/09/2018 22:00

So let me get this straight.
A woman liked an article where a female journalist discussed the issues with locking rapists up with vulnerable women, and that deserves shouting down and “calling out”?

Well that’s really something, isn’t it?

Didactylos · 13/09/2018 22:02

I keep thinking ox and fowl. Or the name of a tedious little winebar somewhere? Still cant work out which is which.

Bowlofbabelfish · 13/09/2018 22:06

Fox and Owl? Grin

Are we channelling the cast of the fucking Gruffalo here?

How committed to the Owl thing are they though? Head rotation? Roosting? Pellets? Enquiring minds would like to know.

I often wonder if JK is on here (along with others, I was listening to the eurythmics on the radio today and thinking ‘I bet Annie Lennox is on MN...)

Channel your inner Glaswegian, JK:

“TWAW!”
“Are they, aye?....”

Wink
