I wouldn't argue with that, Carrots. The criminal justice system has had lumps taken out of its budget over the past decade, though. Remanding people costs money, and the courts and police are both under huge pressure to make savings.

I really don't know anything more about this specific case or how the police, CPS, or any other agencies have handled it. I would hope a decent investigative journalist would take it up, though. There is a lot worth answering here.

Why would Aimme be using PGP encyption software on a site together?

I can't see much need for a teenager to be using this with their father

Amalfimamma
I don't think it updates though does of course link to the source.

One of the advantages of thread reader rolls as well as being easier to read is that the information is preserved if for example a twitter account is suspended, banned etc.

Does Aimee Challenor have a GRC? In what way is Aimee trans?

Was it through self declaration as in coming out?

Destinysdaughter · 29/08/2018 15:05

That family history thread makes them look like something out of Shameless! Shock

Interview with Aimee Challenor in Guardian June 6th 2018:

"And Challenor has experienced prejudice herself. It started on the night she came out as trans at her school prom, aged 16. She wasn’t allowed to wear a dress, her headteacher told her, because it was “unnecessarily attention-seeking” and would make the school “look stupid”. (The school back-pedalled after a complaint from Challenor’s parents.) Since then she has been attacked mostly via social media: her mental health began to suffer after a recent barrage of abusive tweets. “One of the things that has helped me ignore the hate is the fact that yes, I’m trans, but I’m a Green party politician – and I’m achieving at something I’m damn well proud of.”

Challenor lives with her parents in Coventry and was a Green party parliamentary candidate for Coventry South in 2017. Although she only got 1.3% of the vote, she says support is growing. She has “campaigned tirelessly” on local green issues and the economy: “We need to look at Coventry’s plastic waste incinerator, which is a horrific abuse of our local environment. We need to ensure we have weekly recycling bin collections, not fortnightly. We need to see the green belt in our area protected – and development of the brown belt areas and the inner city.”

Her anger about cuts to benefits and local public services is also personal: she helps care for her mother, who uses a wheelchair. “The move from the disability living allowance to the personal independence payment has been a shambles. My mum has not been able to get the support she needs.” (continues)

It seems likely that Aimee is referencing the period in May when Miranda Yardley was successfully targetted and banned from Twitter.

Aimee Challoner challenged the BBC's coverage of complaints that Feinists were being targetted by TRAs. The BBC edited their article.

There are though wider issues which become obscured eg the use of Terfblocker, the long term targetting of Miranda Yardley's Twitter account which Aimee Challoner had, I believe likely been involved with at times.

It would also seem extremely likely that any young person whose parent was in the process of being tried for such a serious crime as David Challenor would also be deeply affected by this.

There are links to the May BBC articles, subsequent radio programs etc on current thread:

"yeah my dad might be a sex offender and allegedly [at the time] kept a child prisoner in our attic while he raped and tortured her - but it's being called male that is affecting my mental health..."

Hmm
BraveAndStunning · 29/08/2018 15:15

TRAs are going tonto targetting Mumsnet's advertisers again.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 29/08/2018 15:15

Good luck with that. Half a dozen crackpots against 51% of the population.

R0wantrees · 29/08/2018 15:16

Aimee Challoner Independent comment article May 30th 2018:
'It’s hard tackling transphobia when the BBC propagate it'
(concludes)
"The BBC may see it appropriate to give a platform to those who are abusive online, but I don’t and clearly, neither does Twitter. The type of abuse that goes on online is horrendous and it affects so many people on a daily basis. I’ve previously written about the issue calling for urgent action; I’m pleased to see that Twitter is doing taking it. I am willing to continue have discussions with the BBC and others, on how we can achieve factual news articles that are fair and balanced, and don’t propagate harm against LGBTIQA+ people. Finally, let me make it clear, I am not a man. I have never been, and I never will be. I am a woman. I am open about my trans history, but first and foremost I am a woman. In the Green Party, we are clear on our policy; Trans Women are Women. Trans Men are Men. Non-Binary Identities are Real and Valid."

They are going after this thread next, having smelled blood with the deletion of the 'meet the tras' thread. Be wise.

Do you think mnhq will get cold feet, after all this?

RedToothBrush · 29/08/2018 15:21

Does Aimee Challenor have a GRC? In what way is Aimee trans?

Aimee is 20. It takes two years to get a GRC. They are in process from what I understand so legally covered by existing law as trans. I think I saw reference to getting surgery in the near future somewhere.

R0wantrees · 29/08/2018 15:23

June 15th 2018 Aimee Challoner on RT defending CRUK's campaign for 'people with cervixes'

On what basis is Aimee Challenor qualified to involve themself in gyny oncology campaigns?

I ask this that as someone who has been involved for the last 6 years with raising awareness since being diagnosed with gyny cancer.

RedToothBrush · 29/08/2018 15:30

They are going after this thread next, having smelled blood with the deletion of the 'meet the tras' thread. Be wise.

That thread was a bloody stupid idea. It was always going to get deleted. I was amazed it lasted as long as it did tbh.

There are so many questions relating to the public interest in this thread. I think it is always legitimate to raise those questions of people who seek public office. Thats what media and the public are supposed to do. Hold people to account and ask questions.

If you want to stand for office but don't like difficult questions, you really don't like democracy. And thats a good enough reason for people to be hostile towards your motives.

They can try and go after this thread. It will only have the effect of everyone going WHAT ARE THEY TRYING TO HIDE?

I'll be far more counter productive than what they want to achieve.

This one, can't be contained as easily as they might think. Not now.

RedToothBrush · 29/08/2018 15:34

By the same token, what do you think the effect of MN removing a concerned thread about about a paedophile, their dubious home life involving cruelty to animals and social service, the questionable actions of someone standing for the deputy leadership of the fourth biggest political party in the UK who seemingly were completely obvious to it all, despite a regional pride group being fully up to speed?

Do you think the reaction would be pretty on here?

thecatfromjapan · 29/08/2018 15:35

If TRAs go after Mumsnet advertisers again, it might be worth telling any advertisers who 'disappears' suddenly that what the TRAs objected to was women complaining about a case involving the condoning of the rapist and torturer of a ten year old girl.

The bullying of Mumsnet through its advertisers needs to stop.

thecatfromjapan · 29/08/2018 15:36

Totally agree with that last post, RTB.

placemats · 29/08/2018 15:37

So Aimee has been a trans woman for 4 years and is in the process of getting a GRC. But despite no GRC as yet Aimee is still seen as a spokesperson for trans. Advisory to Stonewall and a trustee of Coventry Pride.

Thanks Red

R0wantrees · 29/08/2018 15:40

Aimee Challenor has had a great deal of power and influence beyond the Green Party in recent years.

Some of which though has been accessed by her being a representative for the Green Party.

KeneftYakimoski · 29/08/2018 15:44

"The bullying of Mumsnet through its advertisers needs to stop."

Organised boycotts can be civilised and legitimate. It's a spectrum. I don't, as it happens, think the boycotts of Nestle are likely to achieve much, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong, and I don't see any problem at all with people promoting and encouraging such boycotts. The BDS campaigns have a rather stronger smell about them, because there are many historical resonances, and the TRA campaigns are largely hideous, as are similar campaigns in the US over abortion.

I suspect the more that cause involves shouty young people with a single issue in their mind, the less likely it is to be civilised. There are people who are worried about formula promotion in the third world, but they're probably not fixated on that one cause night and day, and whipped into violent rage by anyone who disagrees. BDS, "pro-life" causes and TRA, on the other hand, attract angry obsessives.

It's also worth pointing out that although the ALF and various anti-vivisection groups aren't as active as they were a decade ago, they are still present around the Green Party, so violent and aggressive TRA causes are in a fertile ground of "activists" and "campaigners" for whom the line is blurred, at the very least, between democratic campaigning and something a lot nastier.
