We are different

Is it wrong if me to feel like there are differences between men and women and that's what makes us human?

Aside from equal pay debate (I believe same job, same pay) and similar- I do believe that there are inherent, natural differences between men and women. But it doesn't seem ok to think this or say it anymore?!

I also feel like a lot of 'feminists' use that umbrella to man- bash. Don't get me wrong, I have known a good few awful men, I've also known a good few awful women. We can't tar everyone with the same brush?!

Thoughts?

Mean and women are biologically different in certain ways. That is true and feminists never deny that.

Can you tell me the ways you think men and women are different?

LadybirdsAreBirds · 24/08/2018 17:05

... oops typo

men and women

LadybirdsAreBirds · 24/08/2018 17:05

Also, I don't know what you mean by umbrella

YeTalkShiteHen · 24/08/2018 17:06

There are differences. It’s easier being a man for a start.

VickyEadie · 24/08/2018 17:10

Is it too early to mention Weetabix?

LadybirdsAreBirds · 24/08/2018 17:10

Also, I don't understand what 'it's the differences between men and women that make us human^.

There are biological differences between cows and bulls, but they are not human

Or do you mean 'human' in a more figurative way?

LadybirdsAreBirds · 24/08/2018 17:10

Sh Vicky. I'm just getting started

LadybirdsAreBirds · 24/08/2018 17:12

Thoughts?

askingquestionsisok · 24/08/2018 17:13

Just to say, I am a woman.....

I think (in general) women are more emotional, i think (in general) men are physically stronger. I think (in general) women are better in the home, multitasking, nurturing etc. One thing I've never thought is that one gender is more intelligent- I would say this is not based on gender?

I say in general because of course there are exceptions. There are many, many physically strong women and many many great SAHD or main child care givers for example.

It's just feels like these days it's not ok to say that biologically we are different.

I have honestly never noticed a great deal of sexism in my time- I'm in my 30's. As most women, the odd wolf whistle or less than desirable comment etc but I have also seen women do this to men.

We are biologically different which is what makes us human. This is why in many lines of work- the majority of a workforce would be one gender or the other.

There are inherent differences between large Weetabix and small weetabix. The small ones are smothered in sugar to hold them together. I don't think they should be allowed in my bowl

VickyEadie · 24/08/2018 17:14

(Butters a Weetabix)

VickyEadie · 24/08/2018 17:14

LadybirdsAreBirds

Sometimes the Weetabix have to be deployed early, don't they?

YeTalkShiteHen · 24/08/2018 17:15

It’s not ok to say that men are biologically different from women????

Have you been on here recently?

askingquestionsisok · 24/08/2018 17:15

As in the human race is/was made up of 2 genders.....male and female. That biologically there are differences which affect our emotional and physical makeup.

OP posts:
BarrackerBarmer · 24/08/2018 17:15

Of course there are differences between men and women.

Do you want to make a list?

LadybirdsAreBirds · 24/08/2018 17:15

Vicky. Maybe, maybe not. You mean a sort of prophylactic Weetabix?

VickyEadie · 24/08/2018 17:15

I find that some men like Weetabix and some don't.

askingquestionsisok · 24/08/2018 17:16

I don't get the weetabix comment. Maybe I'm not such an avid Mumsnetter as you all.

OP posts:
BarrackerBarmer · 24/08/2018 17:16

Oh, sorry, you're confused.

There are two sexes. You mean that, not genders

MrsKCastle · 24/08/2018 17:16

Yeah, there are differences between men and women. They are mostly apparent in the groin, chest and facial areas, but can also be seen elsewhere.

Natural, inherent differences in men's and women's personalities? Not convinced. Don't think we can know for sure until/unless we start treating them in the same way.

VickyEadie · 24/08/2018 17:16

Do Weetabix have genders?

VickyEadie · 24/08/2018 17:17

Maybe I'm not such an avid Mumsnetter as you all.

You don't say...

askingquestionsisok · 24/08/2018 17:18

I never mentioned treating people differently....that is not my belief.

I'm just asking the question- because I'm genuinely interested in your thoughts.

Sex and gender: a beginners guide

OP
Have a look at this. Some of what you are talking about is Sex; some is gender

Babdoc · 24/08/2018 17:19

No op. Humans are not made up of two genders. They’re made up of two sexes.
The former are artificial social constructs imposed by patriarchy. The latter are physical, chromosomal and genital differences imposed by biology.
